Wife had her lady doctor appointment today where she brought up that we've been trying with no luck for #2 for a year. The doctor casually dropped infertility as a potential scenario. Wife and I are both being tested soon for any problems. Hers is apparently fairly painful and invasive, while I just have to rub one out.

I just can't believe we're in this position after Mini Boo happened so quickly. It's a deflating feeling.

Omnicef, IMO. Amox never does anything for my kid. Whatever you do, DirtBall, don't do Augmentin. It tends to upset their stomach.

We did amox. Even though I believe it doesn't help too much for ear infections due to viral origins but better than nothing.

    1/1 for us so far.

If your kid is going on an antibiotic, I recommend asking the doctor for a probiotic too. They gave us 2 free samples that would cost $20-25 bucks if you're buying it from the store. It helps put some of the good bacteria (aid in digestion, preventing sickness and allergies) back in your baby's gut that the antibiotic can kill.

First time I'm with my daughter alone. So far, so good. fiancé went to church and should be back by 8 (I know she's worried)

Not gonna lie, I was scared at first that she would cry the whole time being that she's teething, but we played for a while and now she's in her swing sleeping.

Yes, it was the ones pictured. I'm paranoid about killing his good bacteria and what that can do to his health so I asked our pediatrician if my wife (breastfeeding) should take a probiotic or if there is something else we could do. She said Gerber bought a company that makes really good ones for babies and then gave us 2 of those samples. He was 4 months old at the time.

My wife and I were in a similar situation. I don't want to get too crazy with the personal shit but we had trouble conceiving a few years back - the fertility doctor told my wife that she had the ovaries of an 80-year-old woman. We ultimately decided not to pursue infertility treatment or IVF.

Now, at the age of 42, I've knocked her up twice without hardly trying. Both pregnancies have ended in early miscarriages, but we thought our chances of conception were zero. Crazy world.

My wife and I bring different qualities to the table as far as parenting goes. She's far more patient with our boy than I am and is better at doing things like crafts and school projects. I'm better at setting down rules and enforcing them.

My three-year-old was conceived literally in the first month of trying. Makes me wonder if that was the miracle and this is the norm.

How long does it usually take to get pregnant?
In general, a fertile couple has a good chance of getting pregnant within a year, as out of 100 couples trying to conceive naturally:
    • 20 will conceive within one month
    • 70 will conceive within six months
    • 85 will conceive within one year
    • 90 will conceive within 18 months
    • 95 will conceive within two years
    http://www.babycentre.co.uk/a1813/how-long-will-it-take-to-get-pregnant

If the doctor hasn't recommended it yet, they make ovulation test strips (she pees in a cup and then puts the strip in the cup and checks the color) to help identify when you are most likely to be able to conceive.

Wife has been doing the ovulation tests for a while. We had a couple months where the timing sucked where I was away for work or whatever. But, still, it's taken way longer than I ever thought. Wife cried last night because she thinks she's suddenly infertile.

Yeah, we talked about it. We weren't 'trying' to have a baby, but we decided to just stop preventing it. All in all, it took less than a week I think. We just found out at our last ultrasound that we're having a boy, so needless to say, I was pretty excited.

That is exciting news, congrats! We are expecting a girl at the end of July, add another girl to the count. FML. The real question will be, try once more for a boy?

Me and the wife have talked about this a lot if we get a girl for # 2, if we have a # 2. To me, that is just tempting the gods to give you a 3rd girl.

It is a box for the baby (based on birth date) that comes every month. My wife loves opening it and going through what is in it with him.

High dose amoxcillin usually works. I have seen a lot of patients come to me that were not dosed properly though. I sometimes will use omnicef if amoxicillin doesn't work. Augmentin def. causes more diarrhea. The tolerability for regular amoxicillin should be about the same or better than omnicef.

We had a fair amount of difficulty with #2. #1 was conceived within about three months, then wife went on depo shots after he was born. She went off the shots a few months before we started seriously trying, then for several months we had no luck. Wife went back to doctor, who only then informed her that depo can stay in the system a long time, up to a year, after stopping the shots. So doc prescribed clomid, to "jump-start" her ovaries, and a couple months later the pee test came back positive. But that was a stressful several months, not knowing why things weren't happening, despite our best efforts.

Can't remember what she did after #2 was born, but she sure as hell didn't go back on the depo. We decided to go for three after #2 went into the hospital at 20 months with a raging respiratory infection, scaring the hell out of us. Pee test came back positive almost immediately.

Then she made me get clipped. If there's a #4, she's got a lot of explaining to do.

For those with dogs; how did your dogs do when your first kid come home?

I don't have a reason to think ours won't do well but I've heard some sad stories about people who had to get rid of their dog(s) upon having kids....and well that would be awful.

Our dog was a little depressed when we brought my daughter home because we had her around for 5 years before our first was born. We laughed all the time because she was such a drama queen. When my wife was sitting on the couch feeding the baby, the dog would make a big melodramatic production of slowly walking over, sitting down, then laying down with her chin on her paws and letting out an audible sigh. She also held a grudge against my wife and has slept on my side of the bed ever since our daughter was born. My older daughter is 8 now and the dog still won't sleep on my wife's side of the bed anymore.

The dog LOVED our daughter immediately, though. When we'd wake up in the morning to get her out of her crib, the dog would beat us to the door, run in and stick her nose between the crib bars to try and lick her. What's funny is that when my son was born 4 years later, the dog never really took to him. To this day the dog clearly prefers my daughter to my son.

Anyway, before bringing the baby home you should stop by with one of the baby's used swaddle blankets and let the dog smell it. It will acclimate the dog to the baby's smell and make the transition easier.

Cool stuff, I spend more than that anytime I walk by the toy section of any store im in cause I'm such a sucker.

For sure come home first from the hospital with the babies onesie/blanket and let the dog sniff/play with it and give them lots of love and encouragement the whole time.

Our dog wasn't crazy excited when we brought the pigletmolly home but he loves him to death. Will sleep next to his crib at night, when the kids sick you can tell it stresses the dog out, and the dog freaks out when someone's at the door when he never gave a fuck about anything before. The dogs 6 now and I can count on one hand how many times he barked prior to the baby, now he tells everyone to fuck off.

I feel bad for the dog though cause he's by far the baby's favorite toy. The little man will see the dog sleeping across the room and bust up laughing to run over there and hug/pet/pull/kiss/lay on the dog. The poor dog just wants to nap but it amazes me how patient he is. He always gives me sad puppy eyes saying I didn't sign up for this thing but I love it so I'll put up with his shit.
