Brassard. Would slide in perfectly as a 2/3 C, especially when Malkin and Sid play together. He’s good defensively and wins draws. Plus he’s known as a big game performer in the playoffs. Cap dump plus a goalie prospect/Sprong and a 1st.
Cap dump as in someone’s contract is coming back. Not a stiff but not a top guy. Who would fit to get Brassard and his $5M ticket?
Hunwick is the only name being tossed around but he only carries a $2.1M hit. Ottawa would almost certainly have to retain some of Brassard's salary to make anything with Pit work.
His cap is $5M but his actual cash is $3.5. Maybe they do, but that would come at a cost. Can they retain 50% cap hit but only be on the hook for $1M? Don’t think so... Brassard seems to be the top C available for the deadline. But I’m sure others will appear.

I'm fine with the Pens staying with what they have. They have gotten it going and you will end up scratching a guy like Sheary anyhow. Would like a solid dman but don't think they can get one to upgrade for a reasonable price so I'd say just roll with it. Team looks scary as fuck right now.
Rumor is the Sens want a first, sprong, and a regular NHLer. Maybe more. That combined with the cap issue makes me doubt that could get done. I like Brassard, but if they wanted to pay $5m/yr for him they could have re-signed Bonino for less (and they let him walk). But I guess it’s possible with Brassard only on through next season if they felt they erred in their judgment on Bonino.
Talent is there, just has to get stronger and adapt to game speed. Typical young guy stuff, but his shot is absurd
I think there is something to that. They’ve made comments alluding to him not being as good in the AHL as others. Which is probably effort related. That is just my read though. As far as goalie prospects, we have Jarry and DeSmith who both have played well this year and we have a 2nd rounder in Sweden from a couple years ago. So I could see one of them being available. Probably DeSmith or the Swedish guy.
Just a terrible trade by Holland. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise, he’s been one of the worst GMs in the league since the salary cap was instituted and it took years for most people to realize it. Fuck Holland.
