Bob won it elsewhere, hextall is the only good one they kept around. And he was not very good. They can’t figure out that position, maybe carter heart will do it
I think the call could have gone either way but that video is missing how Debrusk ended up there in the first place.
last night will be a fun night for the Wheel of justice. both with less than 2 min in the game. Don't think the Kane hit was as bad as it looked, but imo he knew where he was going even if he looked away before running into barkov.
It really is amazing how bad the nhl is at getting exposure. It’s friday night, the fact that I can’t watch a penguins/capitals game when there’s absolutely no CBB games is ridiculous
That last penalty on Bowey was one of the worst calls I've ever seen. Dude is literally skating straight forward, Pen bumps into him and falls, tripping. Wilson penalty was complete bullshit too. Typical Tim Peel. Still, Holtby is incapable of having a good game vs the Pens.
It’s honestly hard to put into words how dumb bettman is. Wow, the whole world could tune into hockey and be excited? Nope, let’s prevent our best guys from playing in the Olympics
Why have our guys on one of the 800 espn channels/streams when fans can watch on their local versus channel
Was a fabulous game for a little over 2 periods, till Peel and Holtby happened. Really want Peel to die.
Crosby vs McDavid?? A lot of borderline hockey fans would tune in?? Nope let’s give them Detroit vs Buffalo!!
Seriously? Kane was just floating....how do you even consider that close to a cheap shot? Of course he knows where he is going. Do you expect him to make sure he avoids every panthers players just because it’s under 2 minutes? And by the way, it did not look bad at all
Eh, don’t get me wrong I wish the nhl players were going but I’m already a hockey fan. I don’t think the nhl is gaining many fans if they let their players play in Olympics. My guess would be they saw the dream scenario in 2010 with Canada-US gold medal game in Vancouver so everyone in North America could watch and didn’t see much of a bump in fans. If so, what are they gaining?
What are they gaining by doing a gimmick all star game that nobody watch? I get both sides, but Olympic hockey is great and the USA is a real powerhouse now. The nhl screwed up imo. Nothing to lose, everything to gain. But of course I do not know the deals, if they get nothing in return for sending players then I get it.
Maybe if/when the NHL gets a better tv deal it will come back. Problem is they are never on tv, even highlights. So some kid sees Connor mcdavid and loved him. Where can I watch? Oh sorry kid, he’s on about 6 times a year in the regular season.
Hockey is a 82 game season plus playoffs and NBC pays pretty much the same as they do for that as a year of EPL which is 38 games. EPL is my shit but it's a joke. TV deals are fucking out of control and hockey has been flat lining for a while. Haven't really put much thought into it but if NFL/NBA/MLB/soccer are all growing more than the housing market in 2005 while NHL is going nowhere, there's a big fucking problem.
That’s on American people watching bowling instead of the nhl. Not the nhl. They get the best deal they can. But if you want to hook a non nhl fan to hockey , the Olympic is a million times better than the all star game and pretty much anything. It’s the only hope actually.
The problem is that Americans will never care more, the market is set. It reached it’s peek. And I am fine with it, hockey fans are the best, if you watch you have a real interest and knowledge of the game. The nfl is the complete opposite
Well, the nhl makes money on the all star game for one. But yes, fans would rather have the Olympics than the all star game. I don’t think that’s the choice that was made. I find it hard to believe the NHL is getting the best deal they can for TV. If they are going to give up money I’d rather they sell their tv rights for less to someone committed to showing them more often and getting them exposure that way. With live tv being the main driver of revenue in tv these days I would think fox or someone could get behind a push of the NHL.
24 teams are over 90% attendance and half sell out every game. The hockey in person experience vs TV is much better than any other sport but please don't fucking tell me nobody cares.
It’s a Friday night where there’s literally 0 good college basketball games. I can’t watch the pens vs the capitals on a national stage. It’s pathetic and if you agree with bettman/nhl you’re a moron
You guys are hilarious, you take it so personnal when I point out that Americans do not like hockey. It’s just the truth, the ones that do are knowledgeable and pretty loyal. That’s not an insult. What do you want the nhl to do? They tried a lot and it never works. Maybe I am wrong, I am open to discussion
Surprised that Islanders have worst attendance. Did move to a new area but pretty exciting team plus Barclays is really nice.
I get that soccer is growing, especially European soccer in the US. But is MLS really a better option (they have a deal with ESPN) than the NHL? Again, you get fewer games by about half just in the regular season. You get fewer viewers by about 1/3. The MLS deal is $75 million a year vs. $200 million a year for NHL. In 2021 when that deal is up the NHL needs to shop for the most content. Maybe it isn’t ESPN since they are locked in with the NBA. But to me Fox would be an ideal partner now that they have FS1 and FS2. Even NBC could be a better partner by then if they add more channels or offer up CNBC and their other channels as they do with premier league. And I would liberally offer highlight rights to anyone they can find. Get on bleacher report and barstool and any other large online presences around by then too. Not to mention kicking the tires on YouTube, `Amazon, Twitter, and any cut the cord options drooling over live sports content.
I don’t know anything about that, what happened? Olympics? Tv deals? I am not trying to be a dick, I think hockey fans in the us are great. But I don’t see the nhl making huge strides after all these years. And it would be fine. Maybe I am wrong but I am not sure that more exposure would really make a big difference.
It's just an insanely competitive league where every game matters, college football is the only equivalent here. 82+ playoffs works for nba, not sure it does for nhl plus the insanely stupid fucking playoff format. Not full of answers but you're an idiot if you think the league can't grow when sports and TV deals are at a bubble bursting level
Americans don’t hate hockey. The problem is hockey season is football and basketball season as well, and Americans likes those way more. Football isn’t as big of a problem, but it’s bigger than it used to be. In the past football was Saturday and Sunday. Now with college and pro it is Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Even that the NHL could fill in around, but then you have the NBA and CBB. Officially out of room. It has to pass one of those two or move the season (which can’t happen). It would probably work a lot better in the US if it started in June and ended in February after the super bowl. Then it goes against baseball for 3 months, gets caught up in football and basketball for a bit, but then is really getting into high drama after super bowl and before March madness. Never happen, but it might help.
Not sure there's an ideal solution for fall games but saw many Saturdays when there were 15 games, pretty sure most people prefer primetime cfb over an early season nhl game.
Tv deals are not doing too well, unless I am being lied to. I completely understand that more exposure = more money but it depends at what cost and the nhl was not popular enough to get a solid deal. From my understanding, correct me if I am wrong
Horny out for tonight's game so probably a win for the Devils. But nice to see the Pens back in form.
Just happened to Stralman on a penalty kill right after the period started, he tried to put it right behind the goal and it hit the net. Penalty for delay of game.
