Just watched the first episode. idk what to think yet but i dont hate Gillian Jacobs sex scenes nor random boobs. I guess i'll say it has potential so far.
This looked pretty good when I saw the trailer. Plan to watch. I'd imagine it's a lot better than you describe even, since you're Danish and probably don't get a lot of the humor/references.
Why wouldnt i get the humor? i'm sure theres a few references i miss but i doubt its many. I've watched 5 episodes now and im enjoying it.
Digging this show so far at about 8 episodes in. Britta. Lots of funny people who could make bigger impacts as show goes along. Scotty from Happy Endings, that one dude who's always at the P&R town meetings ("If I want a Ponch Burger breakfast pizza, I've got to drive to the one that's 20 minutes away and that makes me 10 minutes late to work. I work from home"), and the always funny Bret "Arny Palmy alert" Gellman. Judd Apatow lost me at Funny People and then made me hate him with This Is 40 but it's nice to see him go back to his earlier style.
I also want to see the friend that lives in Gus' apartment complex more. His jealousy about the toaster and type of wood his door is made of cracked me up for some reason.
yea i agree but the characters in this may more "real". I love you're the worst but there are no Lindsey, Vernon etc. on this show.
Why you gonna have all these sex scenes with a bra on? Lead girl I can understand but the blonde bitch from WiTchita? Fuck outta here.
this is true, although i root for the characters in your the worst more. it very well could be because i think i missed that here (although thats not what this show was and those characters wouldn't have fit here).
I think You're the worst benefits from having another season on Love in this regard. I have no idea where Love is going in season 2 so it might well be we'll never root for them as much, but i could see myself starting to root for them more than i did, once i get to know them better.
I'm obviously on an island here, but I thought it was pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. Not even close to the level of You're the Worst, IMO.
thats fair. idk i liked it a lot and i dont see any reason to hold it against YTW because while they are both about love between a dysfunctional couple thats sorta it, i see no more similarities. I think both shows are great but for very different reasons.
E5 "the date" was tough to watch. High level of second hand embarrassment there for not a lot of laughs. Every time it showed the date I was like ugh please switch back to Mickey asap
I've heard a lot of women bitch and moan about how big of a douche Gus becomes. I mean sure he has his moments but I mean how the hell do you see that "relationship" with Mickey so one sided?
The use of the Pete Townshend's version of Save it for Later in the finale was perfect. Great show. I connected a lot with Gus for better or worse.
still have one epi left, unless something miraculous happens...I don't see things ending well for Gus or Mickey
Really solid. Suffers a bit in that it's not on the same level as You're the Worst, but wel worth watching IMO. Gillians Jacobs is great.
I guess I am lucky that I haven't watched you're the worst, but I really loved this show. Really great first season. My favorite part was the date with the Australian girl. I was choking when he started talking about his ass itch.
I don't think anyone is really trying to shit on this show because it isn't as good as You're the Worst. Like I said, I still enjoyed watching it. I just think it tries to occupy the same 'comedic space' as You're the Worst, and, IMO, it falls pretty fall short of that show on pretty much every level. With that said, YtW sets an almost impossible bar to leap when it comes to my enjoyment of a comedy. Top to bottom, it's easily one of the comedy shows I've enjoyed the most since I started watching television.
The totally original television trend right now is to put two youngish adults together in Hollywood and play "will they, won't they" but get them together early to see if it sticks. You're the Worst is too dog because they do a great job of creating seasonal story archs and what seem to be one-offs (Jimmy's fake mustache) end up being recurring gags. I really liked Love but YTW gets due credit for coming first (that's what she said) and being the superior product (slightly to Love but much better than Togetherness).
I just watched the first two episodes of ytw and I really like it. I think the order you see these may impact perception, because for me there is no reason to compare Love to YTW. Love reminds me more of curb your enthusiasm if it was a rom com. It has that unscripted feel to it and it also has that indie vibe that YTW doesn't have. Like them both a lot. YTW is funnier, but I don't think Love is trying to be constant gag funny like YTW is, but it has its moments. The comedy is more uncomfortable Larry David and woody Allen humor. YTW is just in your face shock hysterics mixed with English wit and observation. Both really good and so happy I finally started watching both this week.
