Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted And good for them, Seattle is an organization that the rest of the MLS should be modeled after.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted what a bs pk. thats about the only way findley can score.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I am trying to give the MLS a chance. I figure if I can get into League 2 soccer from England, the MLS should not be too hard.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted how good is D Kevin Alston for the NE Revolution? does he have a chance of playing for Team USA in the future? was a joy to watch at IU
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted One of the hardest things about following the MLS is that the announcers fucking blow.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Updated through last night with RSL beating Chicago 1-0
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Yes he does. He was called into a U.S. camp in January consisting mostly of MLS based players, but he got injured and missed the friendly.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I'm looking forward to the Union-San Jose game tomorrow. I'm interested to see how the atmosphere holds up at PPL for the second game there. Hometown boy Bobby Convey makes his return to Philly as well.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Is it true after the first game at home there was a shooting and now you can't walk the streets near the stadium in groups of 3?
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I didn't hear anything about that. It's not out of the question because Chester is about as bad as it gets, but I feel like I would have heard more about it.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Bankz, I just looked that up. Chester has apparently been in a state of emergency for the past few weeks due to gang violence. There is a curfew and no gatherings of 3 or more are allowed but that is only in certain high crime areas and the areas near the stadium are not affected. There was a shooting the night of the opener, but it was around midnight and really had nothing to do with the game. It wasn't even close to the stadium. So, yea, like I said, Chester has some REALLY bad neighborhoods (it rivals Camden), but the area around the stadium shouldn't be affected, nor should anyone going to the games. There's a parking lot for season ticket holders right outside the stadium and then additional parking about a half mile away, but there are buses on site to take people to the stadium so nobody should have to walk in any bad areas.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Yeah my brother in law was telling me about this. He said they are really cleaning up the area around the stadium but its still a shit whole overall.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Yea it's bad. The biggest problem they are having right now is that they are trying to develop the area around the stadium, but none of the current landholders want to sell for a fair price. They're all getting greedy and think if they wait they will get some fortune for their land. Hopefully the situation can resolve itself, but I don't think they will ever be able to really get rid of the ghettos there. That's just not something you can make go away. If those people don't want to leave, and there's nowhere else for them to go, what can you do?
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted It's an FSC game, so can watch Mwanga and possibly Union Jack Mac. As for Convey, it's nice to see him start to recover the form of about 4 years ago. He was a very solid player in the EPL for Reading, and he had an awesome season when they were in the Championship and got promoted. Bobby was teetering on the JOB and Mathis of injuries destroying a career. It's a shame because had he not had such a serious injury, he would've been a serious contributor this WC.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted awesome IU has brought in a ton of talent in recent years, don't have much to show for it on the field besides some BT titles so seeing some individual success would be sweet
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Lots of games today - Toronto/Colorado at noon, Philly/San Jose at 6, NYRB/DC and New England/LA at 730, Kansas City/Chivas and Houston/Columbus at 830. Seattle/Dallas at 1030 tomorrow.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I met an English guy at the bar during the US-Algeria game that had just moved to Philly. We got to talking about the EPL and I asked who his team was. He was a Reading fan and I told him Bobby Convey was from this area. He absolutely loved Bobby Convey, said he was one of his favorite players. He wanted to know why he wasn't playing for the USMNT. I told him he hadn't been in form for a while, but he just kept going on about how much he loved him at Reading. I was pretty shocked I didn't think he made that much of an impact when he was there. Of course it could have just been a weird occurrence where he just happened to be this guy's favorite player.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I saw on the bottomline that NYRB are to announce signing Thierry Henry on Thursday.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Dude, I just noticed - you are all over the map with your teams. How does that happen?
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Haha it's a longgggg story. FSU - My dad was a huge Gators fan growing up, I wanted to annoy him at age 6 or 7 and started rooting for Florida State. They had just won their first NC a few years before and I really liked Bobby Bowden because he reminded of the grandfather I never had. Just fulfilled my lifelong dream and graduated from FSU in May, going back there for grad school. NYY - Being born in 1988, there were no baseball teams in Florida till 1993 and I sure as hell wasn't going to root for the Marlins down in Miami. Parents took me to a spring training game in early 1996 against the Pirates and they had this rookie named Derek Jeter who balled out that day. I was set as a Yankees fan forever. D-Rays came in too late by 1998. Green Bay - Plain and simple, Bucs sucked ass when I was growing up, I watched them play Green Bay twice a year and Brett Favre just got me hooked. Bucs are still my second favorite team. Bulls - My one real bandwagon team (Other teams Green Bay and the Yankees hadn't won in years), MJ was a badass. Again no bball team in Tampa Bay area and just couldn't fall in love with the Magic. I've stuck with them though through all the terrible seasons of the early 2000's, and I'm still a diehard fan. Lightning - My one hometown team, not really huge on hockey though I try to keep up with them regularly. Easy with me being from the area.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Fred just scored on a pretty nice flick from Mwanga and a terrible effort from the keeper.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted way to lose marking assignments in the final 3rd. good touch on the pass for the goal.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted The Union love giving up goals at the end of the half.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Okay can someone explain to me the Generation Adidas thing to me? All I know is that these guys do not count against the salary cap. Seems like MLS has a lot of exceptions to the salary cap.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I think it's just a way to talk young prospects out of going to college. When a kid signs with Generation Adidas they're guaranteed a minimum salary that's higher than the normal MLS minimum. The also don't count against the salary cap like you said and also don't count against the senior roster. I think that allows them be loaned out to USL teams (like Jack McInerney was) to insure playing time.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Thanks. The play by play guy is terrible. Need to find a local radio feed if they have one if I am going to continue trying to watch the MLS.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted The local broadcast for the Union games is normally JP Dellacamera, who isn't the best by any stretch, but he's waaaaay better than this guy. I hate when these games are on FSC. Shitty announcers and no HD.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted What channel are they on locally in Philly? Comcast SportsNet?
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Salinas and Torres should have started this game.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted That should have been a penalty. Mwanga got pulled down there. He probably should have finished it anyway.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Questionable but you have to finish that when you get the chance. Sal with a ripper from about 25 yards out.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Guess handballs are legal in the MLS. Bold strategy
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Philly fans need to learn to get loud and start chants and songs. Terrible soccer fans. Have not heard them since the first 10 minutes.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted They've been great all season - bad today though.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Yeah very disappointing especially for Philadelphia fans. The Sons of Ben are very quiet.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted FUCK. fuck this announcer too. they've lost half a dozen games like this this season. I know their young, but fuck.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted 2 goals in stoppage times. that was terrible containment defense. Yeah did not realize how young they were. 11 players under 24 or something like that.
