Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted soccer will be just like every other sport, in that portland/oregon does it better than seattle/washington
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Union are going to make the playoffs - 12 home games left in their fortress on the River.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Galaxy beat USSF-2 side AC St. Louis 2-0 last night in the US Open Cup and will play the winner of the Portland-Seattle game on July 7th. If the Sounders win they will play each other twice within 3 days.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I like him off the bench if we're trailing in the second half, but I really like the lineup they used against the Sounders with Le Toux played sort of a CAM role where had freedom to show up wherever he wanted and then Mwanga playing off Ale Moreno up top. I do like Jack though because he will come in and immediately try to make his mark on the game - he has no fear. Union's most underrater player though is Roger Torres. 18 year old from Columbia on loan from America de Cali. Kid has a wicked left foot on the wing. I wish he was
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted He has 2 goals and an assist so far this season. When Buddle and LD went to the WC that's when he has played the most and from the reports and what snowfx has said he is playing well. I've only had a chance to see him in one game so far this season on TV and he looked pretty good to me. He should get more PT in MLS matches and with the US Open Cup and Concacaf Champions League starting up soon.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted The worst thing the Sounders did was not protect Le Toux in the draft. I was pissed off beyond belief. He was easily a top 4 player. They protected Nate Jaqua, who can't finish to save his fucking life. Now we're stuck with Pat Noonan, who isn't bad, but dammit Le Toux is having an All Star year. I do want to see Jack playing for Philly more. If he's got a shot at making the USMNT, he needs to get in and develop. Union are absolutely not making the playoffs this year, so it'd be a waste to not get him more playing time.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Honestly, it's not out of the question. 12 of their final 19 games are at home. They've played really well all season and just haven't been getting results because of stupid mistakes. I wouldn't be shocked if they snuck in the playoffs.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I believe he is still only 17 and has gotten playing time in 5 or so games. Hopefully he sees more time as the season goes on.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I know people like Jack, and rightfully so, but assuming he gets naturalized and decides to play for America - Danny Mwanga is the best prospect on the Union. That kid is the real deal.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Yeah he is definitely the top prospect in the MLS. He turned down teams like Marseille and others in France and Europe. he decides to become a naturalized citizen.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted well ya snow said he is the best prospect since Jozy
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted He played pretty well against Seattle on Sunday. He had a goal and I believe has 5 on the season.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Funny thing is, he had played mostly as a sub before and that was his first goal that didn't come in stoppage time. Kid has a flair for the dramatic.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Yeah I saw that during the game. They joked after the game that he finally scored in regulation.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Mwanga. Philly has so much good young talent. I don't know how Seattle wasn't able to load up on that kind of talent last year.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Philly had 3 first round picks. They traded allocation spots and allocation money to pick them up and they drafted Okugo and McInnery.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted God I was pissed about the David Estrada pick in this year's draft.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted pre, whats with freddy montero this year? i know last year he was unstoppable (or at least the highlights made him look good) so has he been a disappointment now or are teams just keying on him?
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Roommate has Tosh.O on right now, but I'll get it on after this. Up until about 2 weeks ago, everyone was bitching about him being the laziest person on the team. He got a huge fucking head after last season. He's started to turn it up in the past few weeks so hopefully he gets his scoring touch back.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted What channel is it on? I've got some Puerto Rican bullshit on ESPN and MLB on ESPN2. Edit: I live in FL and there's no way I get to watch it.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted It's on FSNW if you by chance have the entire FSN package.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Unfortunately, I don't. There's supposed to be a stream on the Timbers' website, but their player isn't working.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted even though Seattle has dominated possession tonight. 38' in.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Judging by the FB fan page, yall just scored. Mirite?
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I appreciate the kind of recognition that soccer is getting in the PNW. Part of the reason I'd like to live up there.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Yeah, I'm a casual Galaxy fan but a home MLS team would be so much better.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Houston @ Toronto on right now and De Guzman and Ngwynya in a little fracas. Both got red.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted My roommate who hates soccer got into it after that shit last night. Ching's goal was sick too.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted 5 goals already for Danny, tied for 10 place in the league.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Very entertaining Galaxy-Sounders match a few nights ago Juninho had what will be one of the top goals of the season:http://mls.neulion.com/mlsvp/console.jsp?catid=114&id=6585 edit: watched the game on Tivo, didn't see there was a thread on it, still a sick goal
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Toronto FC Signs Mista from La Liga Toronto FC announced the signing of Spanish striker Miguel Angel Ferrer Martinez to a contract that will run through the end of this season. As per league rules, details of the signing were not released. Martinez (“Mista”) has played for Real Madrid, Valencia and most recently for Deportivo La Coruna, and he will be available for selection following the July 15 summer transfer window. “He adds experience to our team,” Toronto FC general manager Mo Johnston said. “Mista is a different type of player from what we have and we’re excited to get him in the lineup.” The 31-year-old has two caps for the Spanish senior national team and played alongside current TFC Designated Player Julian de Guzman at Deportivo La Coruna. As a member of Valencia from 2001-2006, Mista made 142 appearances and scored 40 goals in all competitions for the Spanish side. He has competed in European cup competitions and won multiple Spanish league titles during his playing career. As a youth, he competed for Spain at the U18 and U21 levels. I don't watch a lot of La Liga matches, but I know him from Fifa at Valencia. Just looked up his stats and he scored well at Valencia, but hasn't put the ball in the back of the net the last few years.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Not bad, good for the MLS to continue to be build depth.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted He's a little older, but it never hurts to have a guy that has played at such a high level. It's also nice to bring guys like him and Nkufo (Seattle) on regular MLS contracts and not as DP's.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Chivas beat Houston in the US Open Cup tonight 3-1 and Seattle is currently tied 0-0 at halftime with LA.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Nice, I really wish MLS teams cared more about the US Open Cup. I honestly don't think teams give two shits about winning it, it's right on target with a regular season win. But, I guess we should just be happy that the MLS in whole is becoming more popular, and the US Open Cup will follow one day.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Sounders are defending champs. They care about it more than any other team. lol
