Is there a list out there that details what an hvac tune-up should include? Got the list from a popular place by me and it's only an inspection of things...feels like there should be some coil and drain line cleanings in there somewhere
Part of a tune up should definitely be cleaning the coils. Really, spraying them water just to get any dirt and debris off is better than nothing, but they make special cleaning solutions specifically for them.
"Flushing " the condensate drain line is so simple, I can't believe any hvac guy wouldn't put that on the list of stuff they do for a regular chechup
Was watching Ask This Old House last night and dude was showing off his new 15 in 1 screwdriver that had a combo bit. The last 2 at the end of this pic. I needed a new screwdriver after leaving my old one on top of my car and driving off and losing it.
I don’t like the capacity. I don’t like the tines. I’m still trying to like it but I still feel like my old Kenmore was just more user friendly for filling it up quickly, compared to the Bosch that just has weirdly organized tines where I’m having small bowls fall through completely or large gaps of open space. And struggling to slide plates and bowls into where they are supposed to go. Maybe I have weird dishes. It’s very quiet though. Oh and it doesn’t dry the dishes any better than the old ancient Kenmore. Identical in that area. $1000 for a dishwasher just isn’t worth it, is my conclusion I’m probably being overly critical about it just because it was $1000
You’re reminding me that I initially hated it after also coming from a big ass old school dishwasher I had in my rental. I love it now but yeah it took awhile to get used to/perfect loading it
My whirlpool dishwasher kicks ass. It's got twice the space as my old bosch (which was only a 2 drawer though). We used to run it like every day or two in the last house
what’s the 3rd drawer/shelf for exactly all I ever do is throw a spatula up there occasionally but normally I just hand wash those is the 3rd shelf a waste?
Silverware. We pull out the silverware caddy and don't use it at all, use that space for large pots/pans. When dishwashers still had door-mounted caddies, that wasn't necessary, but the third rack is key in keeping things nice. Have had two dishwashers like this now (old house/new house), never going back.
Not going to lie, I have like three of these. Two on purpose, third I meant to buy another one. I think the one you show ratchets. Very useful. One of my coworkers showed me that. I put the other two in cars just to be safe along with a small adjustable wrench.
Yes I watched the episode again on the PBS website today to make sure I ordered the right one. The end of the handle said 15 -1 RCHT. They have another 28-1 or some shit but it doesn't have the combo bits.
We have this. I love it. Great drying, too, although probably uses a lot of energy. https://www.geappliances.com/applia...nitize-Cycle-Twin-Turbo-Dry-Boost-PDT785SYNFS At the old house, we had this (https://www.lg.com/us/dishwashers/lg-ldp6797st-top-control-dishwasher) which was awesome, but didn't dry for shit.
Any old school shit was pretty good in terms of getting the job done. They had zero efficiency so it was like pressure washer jets, 15 times the water and 10 times the power consumption to heat and dry.
The miniscule but game-changing differences in mounting bracket locations on overhead microwaves that are purportedly the same size are truly something to behold.
It's a scam and big microwave is in cahoots with big cabinet. Why else would the same manufacturer change it from one model year to the next?
This is my nightmare for when the microwave eventually dies. At that point I’ll just be like we can air fry everything
We were like an inch off from the last one. FIL basically screwed one metal bracket into another to come up with this Frankenstein thing. But it worked
So, with my old barn reno, next up is i gotta put some railing on t the wrap around deck, which ends up being about 160 feet of deck. So i could probably go bankrupt on this project if i wanted to, seeing what railing supplies cost My plan is using cedar posts/rails with feedlot or hogwire welded fence panels. I think this would actuality end up being cheaper and easier than going the cable route, but I'm not sure. Anyone got any other ideas for cheap railing?
I built 120’ of fence using rough cut fir and hog panels. I don’t remember the cost but the hog panels were a little more than using wire but saved a lot of time and is more durable
That's kinda what I'm looking at. If i got 5x16 foot panels, i can just rip them in half and would only need about 5 of them.
Went out to replace some sprinklers this morning. Replaced 5-6 heads. Dug out some others. Doing one final run though and my son says there’s water pooling in an area with no heads. Start digging, can’t find anything. Dig more and run the system so I can find the leak. Water starts shooting out sideways so need to dig a bigger hole. Finally find the cracked pipe is a joint between 3 other pipes. So my Sunday just got a lot less fun.
Coming home from the grocery store yesterday I saw a fire truck and ambulance pulling up in front of my next door neighbors house. They hauled him off on a stretcher so I waited a few hours and texted him and his wife that I didn’t want to be nosy but if they needed anything or wanted me to go get their dog and watch her to just let me know. Turns out he fell through his attic. Luckily didn’t break anything. he texted this to me today and I just don’t know what to say. like how do you make it this far in life without knowing not to step off a rafter in an attic?
That is fucking hilarious. Although can give the guy a pass for just falling. Thank god he wasn’t split in half by his knife door.
For those interested, Sherwin Williams is having a 40% off sale for all paint through Monday. Im going to save like $700 on exterior paint.
lol I learned at a young age that you could very easily fall through your attic. we were like 12-14 and one of my friends was fucking around in his attic. stepped in the wrong place and fell halfway through the ceiling. probably the hardest I’d ever laughed up to that point in my life
I know some people are just not that handy which if fine because I’m not good at plenty. With that said, if the guy isn’t handy enough to know how to walk in an unfinished attic, what the hell is he going up there for.
One of the worst feelings in my home improvement life was being balls deep in my unfinished attic and my headlamp died.
He's worried about nails sticking out in the rafters? Honestly there's worse stuff he could've seen in the attic.
