When you look at the Safety board almost two thirds of the guys listed there actually play all of their snaps as slot/box safety. I think the scarcity of a traditional deep safety, along with their need bumps this into premium enough that 25 is an acceptable place. Plus guys like Fennel and Tice have been pumping him up and saying they like him to go Rd 1.
Who's on the DC hot board? make another run at Leonhard? 49ers DL coach Kris Kocurek would be high on my list though he may not want to be a DC apparently wouldn't hate former Jags DC Mike Caldwell Ejiro Evero is out there again, we clearly liked him last time but he may be a HC very soon
I would be interested to know 1. Did LaFleur have a greater hand in how the defense was run after the Tampa or Carolina game? 2. Was there any chance he kept his job if we beat the 9ers?
New hc for the Bucks A 130+ ops+ 1b/dh to the Brewers New DC for the Pack Good day for Wisconsin sports
pretty comprehensive list, not sure if Zim, Wink, or Rex fit the Packer Way but I like the first two names
zimmer’s last 2 defenses were 19th and 25th, and I can’t remember which beat writer said it but emphasized that and said, ‘Zimmer and Lafluer hate each other, that’s not going to happen.’
Al Harris would put vibes on level unimaginable to mortal human Probably would be lousy results though
Sounds like he is well thought of league-wide and Quinn has done some really good stuff in Dallas. If he does get hired, it won’t be because he was a Packer. Al Harris is an absolute legend and him being the one to finally lead an elite Packer defense would be just incredible. Not saying he’s the best candidate.
lmao at Jack Del Rio being on that list, dude is never getting a DC job again unless an all-white team somehow joins the league
So that article says it is authored by Schneidman and someone else, the relevant people have quotes/commentary that are obviously from Schneidman and the rest are filler from the other author.
Shane Bowen would slap, the Athletic Football Show guys are big on him lot of simulated pressures, disguising coverages, basically all the stuff that Barry sucked at
it is, but I like the hire. supposed to be a good teacher, well respected by former players (Richard Sherman for one) and I know Ohio State fans rave over him.
Our D was awesome that year Corner driven D with a 1 high safety but really seems like it could be exposed badly with any weakness in personnel Very personable coach but think his expertise as a coach is skewed by a D with Chase Young, Jeff Okudah, and others Idk, thought Joe Barry was the dumbest coordinator in history when he was with Washington so probably an upgrade
Joe Barry’s best year on defense was like 20th (with 7? Years at the helm), as you said, he sucked. If we give up 17-24 points quickly I’d be a lot more of a fan (assuming this leads to more sacks and turnovers) than the 17-24 we gave up through death by a 1,000 cuts and playing conservatively at the most crucial times. Joe Barry’s defense was designed for the offense to make a mistake, but when you need an nfl qb to not make an open 5 yard out on 3rd and 3 you probably are going to have a bad time.
Lol The angst by fanbases over coaches hiring guys they are familiar with is tiring. ND faces a ton of it starting with Kelly (always ended badly) and continues with Freeman (has been mostly pretty good).
He wasn't great but the Packers basically never move on from draft picks (with a pulse) this early. It took Amari Rodgers forever to get cut even though it was clear he was actively hurting the team. If he's missed multiple game-impacting kicks by midway next year, maybe he actually gets some heat.
It was kind of a slow bleed that progressed to flat out struggle at the end of the year. Mid-year the sentiment was that he was solid and the training camp struggles were an outlier. I understand not wanting to give up at first sign of struggle but once it became clear it was too late
They won’t be giving up on him before (and they already signed) somebody to compete with him. He is already under contract. No reason to kick (pun intended) at this point and give him competition in offseason. Now, there absolutely will have to be some tough decisions, potentially, with that come preseason.
1) Team was pretty good, efficiency early passing the ball. 2) middle is when you saw teams get film, wrs running wrong routes, Love missing throws. Absolutely not good. Alas, there is about a 3 week period where it dipped, you see a part where it levels off for weeks 7-9. It wasn’t clicking but I think that shows there was some steady progress where you are getting those ‘one person isn’t doing their job every play’ type of comments Lafluer was referring too. The charts kind of back that up. 3) from that point it seemed to click. Once it did? Holy shit…. Looking at this from a purely analytical level is even more encouraging. The ‘really bad’ was more like 3 weeks instead of entire first half of the season. It also completely backs up what we heard for the last 1.5 years. I feel Jordan will have his games from time-to-time, but if the line is consistent his ceiling is so fucking high. Lots of Josh Allen in his game. Not as high of a ceiling, but I also don’t think the floor is as low.
From the blurbs on there and pff his game seems similar to Jones? Get that and a big back later and then you have 3 to roll with and the future set up. I think Nubin goes earlier than that. Nubin, a corner, Guyton, JPJ, or any o lineman is what I think for round 1. They could pretty much draft any position o line that they like. If they got a RT, Tom fills in rg. If they go LT, then they or Walker are your swing tackle. They could go center. RG is open
Bucky is shifty and runs hard for his size. Should never be expected to carry the ball more than 10-15 times a game. He’s great catching the ball out of the backfield, particularly on swings. His biggest downfall is too often trying to make something out of nothing and losing 5-6 yards instead of 1. Duck fans will forever love them some Bucky but our third string RB was outplaying him down the stretch. Also there are long term injury/durability concerns with JPJ.
I think he would be fine to keep around and think Hafley is better equipped to unlock his potential - but if there is a situation like with Ha Ha CD where someone else pays him I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I do think it runs the risk of a Micah Hyde too where someone else is able to better put him in a position to succeed. Basically that means anywhere from a pro bowler to out of the league in 2 years is on the table.
it was during such a bad season that #peopleforget that HHCD was traded mid season Savage has the tools you want and I’d argue he’s never had a good DC. Something like a year at $5mil seems fair. But if he leaves, that’s totally fine too. Feels a bit like the Nick Perry situation under Ted.
These are the safeties that the Athletic has ranked ahead of Savage in Free Agency, so a decent supply of mid level options if they wanted to repeat the Amos/Savage like combo where they sign a modest free agent and draft high (second round?)
