"A bowling ball with wheels, Lloyd is a 220-pounder with 4.46 speed and a lot of burst in and out of his cuts. He has fewer than 300 carries on his body and averaged better than seven yards per rush last season as a three-down back who can also catch it. This was a need for Green Bay and Lloyd will be ready to contribute immediately."

Reading those they just basically grade based on relation to their own boards. The audacity of them to think that teams don't know better than them and are fully aware the players they are passing on is gross. Especially a team like the Packers that doesn't reach for needs.

GREEN BAY — The Packers added 11 players in this year’s draft and we spoke with each on a conference call, in addition to hearing three times from general manager Brian Gutekunst and once each from head coach Matt LaFleur, vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan, national scout Sam Seale and assistant director of college scouting Pat Moore.

Here are some insights and notable quotes on each player the Packers drafted on Days 1 and 2 (insights and quotes on each Day 3 pick will be published Tuesday morning). Let’s dive in.

Round 1, Pick 25: Jordan Morgan, OT, Arizona
The lowdown

• Gutekunst said Morgan can play four positions on the offensive line.
• LaFleur, when asked if Morgan will work first at left tackle (he only played left tackle in college), said, “Yeah, I think that’s naturally where you’d look.”
• Morgan’s skill set projects much better at guard (he has 32 7/8-inch arms), according to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, and LaFleur implied Morgan will practice at multiple spots.
• Morgan planned to enter the 2023 draft but tore his ACL late in the 2022 season. Gutekunst called Morgan’s early-season play in 2023 “remarkable” given he was coming off such a significant injury.
• Morgan said he’s been studying former Packers All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari for a while. He could replace him long-term if he beats out incumbent Rasheed Walker, a 2022 seventh-round pick who played more than 77 percent of the offensive snaps last season.

Gutekunst: “We’ve had a bunch of guys that have played outside there with not, I guess, prototypical arm length and been fine. I think what makes up for it usually is their feet and athleticism and that’s what Jordan has.”

Seale: “Great footwork, good balance. I know people are saying he’s not strong, but, you know, I could go get some film showing where he locks up on guys and drives them off the ball.”

Morgan: “In the training room, I did three times a day, just trying to beat the timeline of an ACL injury when they told me that it was going to take so long. And I just didn’t want to wait too long. I felt like a liability.”

Round 2, Pick 45: Edgerrin Cooper, ILB, Texas A&M
The lowdown

• Cooper was the draft’s only player to lead his team in tackles, tackles for loss, sacks and forced fumbles, and he did so for a top-10 defense.
• Cooper likens to Packers No. 1 ILB Quay Walker, Moore said, in that they possess similar physical traits, speed, aggressiveness and playstyle.
• Cooper’s eight sacks last season were in part a result of his ability to spy a quarterback and trigger, features that will come in handy in the NFL.

Cooper: “That was something I always thought of, playing with another fast linebacker … being able to go sideline to sideline, having two weapons on the field like that, I feel like could be very dangerous.”

Sullivan: “The inside ‘backer used to be a square, thick-necked come-down-hill, put-your-face-on-people-in-the-A-gap (guy). Now, it’s what we’ve got. It’s Quay. It’s Cooper. It’s these guys that are 6-foot-2. They’re more linear. They’re long. They can run, play in space and do the things you’ve got to do to survive … Cooper, that’s one of the main things that attracted us to him is his speed is different. When he hits the gas and he’s running things down, there’s a ‘woah’ factor to that.”

Round 2, Pick 58: Javon Bullard, S, Georgia
The lowdown

• Bullard has experience at both safety spots and the nickel, the latter giving him an edge over other safeties on the board, Moore said.
• Georgia head coach Kirby Smart referred to Bullard as “a little stick of dynamite” and Moore described his play style as physical, aggressive and energetic.
• Bullard said that on his pre-college visit to Alabama, he took a picture with then-Crimson Tide safety Xavier McKinney, who he could very well start alongside in Green Bay.

Moore: “You don’t play for Coach Smart and not be a good tackler. That’s one of his strengths. If nothing else, he’s showing up ready to tackle. Tackling will not be an issue with him.”

Bullard: “I don’t think — I know I can play all three positions in the secondary. Whatever you need me to play. I feel like I proved my versatility throughout this process, man, being able to cover slot guys and being able to cover tight ends and being able to get down in the box and get down and dirty with your running backs, things like that, so I feel like I can play all over.”

Gutekunst: “He can play the post. He can come down in the box. He can jump in the nickel. He can do a lot of things and he has done a lot of things in probably as close to a pro-style defense as there is, so yeah, he is a very versatile player. I think in our current situation, we’ll probably start him out at safety.”

Bullard: “I’m one of those players that’s literally willing to do anything … I’ll pour water in your cup if you want me to, man.”

Packers solidify defense by adding two potential starters at positions of need

Round 3, Pick 88: MarShawn Lloyd, RB, USC
The lowdown

• Lloyd was one of five running backs in the FBS to average more than 7 yards per carry (he logged 116 rushes), something he attributed to yards after contact more than elusiveness.
• He only caught 13 passes last season, but he averaged 17.8 yards per reception.
• Lloyd, who played two seasons for South Carolina before transferring, said a lot of his coaches have compared him to Josh Jacobs, whom he’s watched a lot of tape on and shares a similar build with.
• This looks like a similar situation to one in 2020 when the Packers drafted AJ Dillon in the second round to be the No. 3 running back for a year before taking over for Jamaal Williams when he eventually left in free agency. Dillon is on a one-year deal in 2024 and Lloyd could even push him for snaps as a rookie.

What they said

Lloyd, who was the fourth running back drafted, was ranked No. 5 in the running back class by Brugler and No. 1 by NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah: “I’m the best running back in the draft, for sure, and I think Green Bay got the best running back in the draft because they think the exact same. I’m super confident with that. I think Daniel Jeremiah, that’s going to come up in the next few years, exactly what he says. I definitely do feel like he’s telling the truth on that part.”

Gutekunst: “Was a really good back in the SEC and I think it was just his overall ability, not only as a runner but the ability to catch the ball. I think he’s got some return ability. He’s a 220-pound man. He’s packed in a tighter frame, but like his ability kinda to make people miss. He’s got a little juice to him.”

LaFleur: “He’s got really good speed … he really showcased that the week of the Senior Bowl, especially in the one-on-one situations that he was in. He gives us a little different flavor maybe.”

Round 3, Pick 91: Ty’Ron Hopper, ILB, Missouri
The lowdown

• Hopper ran a 4.68-second 40 at his pro day, but Gutekunst said the Packers clocked him in the high 4.5s.
• Hopper said his biggest strength is playing the run game, while his biggest weakness is that he needs more consistent hands.
• What stood out most to Hopper from his 30 visit to Green Bay was that he was not in a meeting room with just inside linebacker coach Anthony Campanile. LaFleur, defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley and Campanile were all in the room going through plays with him. That made him feel like they were very interested in him.
• It came as a slight surprise that the Packers doubled up on Day 2 inside linebackers, especially with one whom Brugler gave a fifth-round grade, but Gutekunst said Hopper was in the Packers’ top two rounds on their big board (he estimated the total number of players in their top two rounds was slightly under 50).

Gutekunst: “He’s really physical. He can run, but his stopping power when he takes on blockers is pretty impressive. Very serious-minded guy. I think he really helped change that defense. The Missouri defense this year was excellent.”

Round 5, Pick 163: Jacob Monk, OL, Duke
The lowdown

• Monk started 12 games at right tackle, 36 at right guard and 10 at center in college.
• Sullivan said Monk can play tackle in a pinch, but the Packers see him primarily as someone capable of playing guard and center.
• Monk is allergic to cold water, which he learned after he got hives from a cold tub before a game against Alabama in college. He can drink cold water and be in snow; he thinks he just sat in the cold tub for too long.
• There were games in college during which Monk played all three interior positions.
• Monk has a 24-year-old brother, Miles, with Down syndrome and autism. Monk said Miles has taught him patience with people and compassion. Monk is active in helping those with special needs in the Raleigh, N.C., area and said he’ll continue to be so in Green Bay because “there’s no better way to serve than with these special humans on this earth.”

Monk: “I used to play running back in Little League, but I just had one too many burgers, so I had to put a red stripe on my helmet and put my hand in the dirt.”

Sullivan: “He’s quick, very quick, strong, aggressive play style, excellent motor, gets after it. He’s a snap-to-whistle kind of guy. Like I said, his playstyle and the way they talk about him, his wiring, he’s an elite, elite guy. He’s a leader and he kind of sets the tone at that program. Guys follow him and I think that kind of oozes out on his film when you’re watching him and this guy’s getting after it and he’s out there to win.”

LaFleur: “From everything we heard about the guy in terms of being the alpha in the room, we felt really good about him.”

Round 5, Pick 169: Kitan Oladapo, S, Oregon State
The lowdown

• Oladapo didn’t receive any scholarship offers and began at Oregon State as a preferred walk-on cornerback.
• He dyes his hair before games but might not don Packers green because of Oregon’s colors, saying, “I do like the blonde. Now, the green, I don’t know if I’m gonna dye it green, but I’ll definitely go yellow, for sure.”
• New Packers defensive quality control coach Anthony Perkins was Oregon State’s cornerbacks coach the last two seasons.
• Sullivan said Oladapo is probably more of a true safety compared to Bullard and Williams but that he can play the big nickel or weakside linebacker spot.

• According to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, “Glover isn’t an explosive athlete and achieving leverage will be a constant battle for him, but he also isn’t a slug and looks for ways to unleash his power in all areas.”

What they said

Glover: “I think my strength is probably just my hands. I try to be violent when I play and really timing in my strikes is something that I’ve been trying to work on. It’s one thing to just be trying to throw haymakers, but in my training, just working on throwing fast strikes like a snake.”

Gutekunst: “I do think sometimes when you come from a small school, you may have more questions about the level of competition and then you walk out to the Senior Bowl and go against those guys and prove yourself a little bit. That certainly can help, yeah. In his case, it did.”

Round 7, Pick 245: Michael Pratt, QB, Tulane
The lowdown

• Brugler had a third/fourth-round grade on Pratt.
• In the last several years, Pratt has lost both his close friend and former high school teammate, Bryce Gowdy, to suicide and his brother, David, a battle detailed in this sit-down interview with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero before the draft.
• Pratt has been friends with Packers backup quarterback Sean Clifford for a couple of years since they met at the Manning Passing Academy and they’re in a group chat with Titans quarterback Will Levis and others.

So as we got later and later, he was kind of the only left that we wanted to target, so that was kind of nice.”

Round 7, Pick 255: Kalen King, CB, Penn State
The lowdown

• King went from a second-team All-American in 2022 and projected first-round pick in the 2023 draft to a seventh-round pick in the 2024 draft after a steep decline in performance.
• Gutekunst said King has “a really nice skill set” as a 21-year-old with only three years of experience in college who can play outside cornerback or nickel.
• King got audibly emotional on a conference call with reporters after the Packers picked him while discussing being humbled by where he went and wanting to prove people wrong.

King: “This experience that I got these past three days was nothing but a humbling experience for me. I’m just gonna use it to add fuel to the fire because there have been a lot of doubters in my ear and a lot of doubters on me for the past couple months and it’s always going to be those. We’re glad we were able to select him where we did and hopefully, this year will prove that he should have been drafted a lot higher than he did.”
