People seem overly concerned about the why when the movie doesn’t. Seems like people want to project onto the art instead of just taking it for what it is.
One thing I think is missing is that this is a movie about the last days of the Civil War. OR at least the fall of the Offerman regime. I also don't take this too seriously as a film when I realized another civil war wouldn’t break down across state lines.
This movie for differing opinions. But popping into a thread saying last year’s best movies were “too boring” for you is drive by posting that is going to result in a roasting. It is film discourse at its laziest form.
it's not good the opening scene and the trial run scene are good but the dialogue, characters, and everything after they drop the bomb is bad
Wow, I must just live in a trailer park because I enjoy a blockbuster action movie. You’re the one who was a cunt about someone liking what was a generally loved movie across the board and acting like enjoying it invalidated someone’s opinion.
who said anything about a trailer park but yes, if you liked top gun maverick you should move to a trailer park does that make you happy now?
We got folks saying top gun maverick sucks (for the same copy/paste reason any summer blockbuster could be derided, ignoring what it got right that many do not) but saying a 2.5 hour French film that literally does not come to any worthwhile conclusion was boring is out of line.
Zone of Interest is not french nor is it 2.5 hours and if you think it doesnt have a conclusion then I cant really help you (edit: you can ignore that) and as I said before the action stuff of top gun is very good, shot incredibly well but that doesnt make it a good movie. it still has the awful characters and dialogue of any other bad popcorn movie
He was talking about Anatomy of a Fall. The trial finishes but you aren't 100% sure one way or the other as a viewer if they are guilty. Kind of the same as any other murder trial that doesn't have video or DNA evidence to make it 100% conclusive. I guess he just didn't like that conclusion, but it is a conclusion.
He seems very dumb but I've liked some of his work so will watch this on a plane in a few months Maverick was mid but do need to watch anatomy of a fall
Nug thoughts Maverick was average. Fun but probably won't watch again Anatomy of a Fall was good KOTFM was a little underwhelming, but I'm a sucker for great individual performances over a great film Poor Things was great and agree with this description: American Fiction was great
its a theater or bust watch for me the stuff that does work would really get cheated without the full cinematic experience
Maverick: awesome AoaF: great KotFM: incredible Poor Things: good Civil War: doesn't seem very good but it's got the Dunst/Plemmons family Sicario: great American Fiction: good
Yeah, this definitely feels like something I'll see in theaters and not think about again. Hoping to get around to seeing Civil War and Challengers this week.
Civil War - 8/10 Great cinematography, solid sound mixing, definitely a Dolby tier movie. Great acting from Dunst and Spaely. Cailee is a fucking star. It was nice to see an accurate representation of the American government for once instead of the typical propoganda. That final scene will forever live in my dreams. It was sad to view Offerman as a dictator though
Going from this to Priscilla back to back must have been a shock to the system what range she has already
I still haven’t seen Zone or American Fiction, but thus far The Holdovers was my favorite film of 2023 and it’s not really close
Finally going to see Dune II tonight. Am excite. Based on my seat selection for this random theater in Mexico City, I may be the only person there.
Watched The Fabelmans, Spielberg's personal coming of age story. Very mediocre, more angst than magic. Mom was a total narcissist, dad was sackless. The kid did a good job in it. Thoughts?
