I’m saying it more to be funny. Ha contributes so much more than goals o honestly wasn’t that concerned. the own goal he forced was all him and his net front work. It’s just funny with 4 goals two are empty betters and then an own goal.
Meanwhile im not sure if/when Spencer knight will make his way back to this team whether this or next year. Things are very stable at the moment.
I mean if he busts, he busts. They can buy him out at 1/3 either of the next two years and have a minimal cap hit.
Not really interested in the marginal calls. Win at home. Someone other than Reinhart score goals. Montour and ekblad have been totally MIA offensively.
I’m gonna hard disagree. You can’t have refs “managing” the game by calling an objectively terrible embellishment penalty to keep the game even and call a marginal hook on ekblad 4 minutes later in an even more dangerous spot. you aren’t wrong about ekblad and Montour though.
I hate the embellishment penalty altogether. The ekblad penalty I don’t have an issue with really. His stick was caught and he put it there. He didn’t take him down by hooking but you can’t get your stick caught there. No different than getting a stick blade into a guys skate blade. It’s a soft call for the time of the game but I had no issue with it being a penalty.
It’s 100% a penalty. The problem is that it didn’t flow with how the rest of the game was officiated. Especially the embellishment call. You can’t have that from your officials. I don’t really care about the loss because all of their predictive numbers over the last three games have been excellent. The process is still elite. So I’ll nitpick atrocious officiating and not worry about the rest.
I can’t remember the last embellishment penalty that I thought was embellishment. The problem is it’s called when actual penalties occurred. I get have a rule for a guy simulating or diving but if it’s a penalty then don’t call embellishment. It’s a stupid rule I’ve never understood. And they never call it for high sticking which is when guys are most often embellishing.
Agree 100% here. The rule is poorly enforced and more often then not, it’s used for game management purposes like it was tonight.
Yea. The ekblad over on shots hasn’t been as automatic as it used to be. But that’s brutal. What were the odds?
You can’t complain about a call and at the same time say it’s 100% a penalty. And refs should 100% call more embellishment penalties, regardless of when they happen.
Ima 100% disagree with this post. No reason why a trip and a flop can’t both be called. The goal is to get both out of the game. The only time “embellishment” should be allowed is for high sticking as it is a natural reaction to being hit in the face. Flopping on a trip is another story. Also they should call more holding the stick penalties. Guys are too good at tucking their elbow anytime they feel a stick next to them.
Imagine showing up in a team thread to defend calls that happened in a game a month ago. Never mind being incredibly wrong as usual.
Not sure why responding to a post 5 or so up is off limits but I’ll let you thread police. To your second point, what is wrong about calling a trip and a flop, always good to get a goalies perspective as they see the whole ice all game.
1) it wasn’t a flop. 2) numerous more egregious calls were ignored all game. Especially in the last 10 minutes. But then you call ekblad and gift a power play that determines the game. You can’t swallow the whistle all period and then randomly call something with 30 seconds left in the game. but we get why you are defending it. It got your favorite team a win against an opponent they hadn’t beaten in a long time.
I was talking in general since you were talking in general about officials doing “game management”. I also had no idea the game originally referenced was a Detroit game.
Fucking hell guys. respectfully, while I agree on flopping in general I just don’t see the purpose or effectiveness of embellishment the way it is now. All I see are guys legitimately hooked or tripped or whatever and too often because it causes them to lose control they get an embellishment call. I can respect the idea of the rule but I just don’t think it’s worked. call obvious flops an unsportsmanlike but enough of embellishments when an actual penalty is committed. Meanwhile I never have seen it for a high stick which is the most common time you see a guy embellish.
the problem is that embellishment is used for game management purposes, not on actually getting calls right.
I know you love the whole game management thing but I don’t see it that way. Usually I see a guy who is actually throwing his head back or an arm goes up or some other “less control” move. But it’s all in the course of getting tripped or hooked or whatever. So the line between what’s embellishment and what isn’t while (and I can’t stress this enough) a penalty is actually being committed isn’t enforceable (in my view)
Yup. It's been fun lately. This team is an absolute wagon. Even their losing streaks over the past few months have included a lot of strong play with poor shooting results. It's why I don't really want them getting into the Hanifin sweepstakes. It's going to cost something from the main roster to get it done and you don't fuck with a team that has few if any weaknesses.
Flattering to see the lightning pull out every truck un the book to hold on to a 4-0 lead. Also hilariously bad officiating. But whatever. Playoffs aren’t in danger.
Thought it was the right call live and either way it’s before the goal and would be a 2 min penalty. After review they should have been able to reduce it to a minor though. The worst calls were against Reinhart who was hacked or tripped a couple times with the puck.
See that’s the thing. It’s not a minor either. Sheary was falling before the contact AND kulikov his shoulder first. It was a bad call all around. Outside of my absolute hatred for bad officiating. I don’t care. This game meant nothing for us. So who cares that we caught the short end. But that still doesn’t change that this entire crew has no business officiating a playoff game. The shit they allowed the lightning to get away with after multiple icing calls was absolute pee wee level nonsense.
I get it but live I would not complain if they called that. you can analyze the replay and say his arm was tucked in prior to contact but in real time I would be like “yeah that looked bad” similar to a bang bang hit over the middle in football. In the world of bad calls i just don’t think that one in particular is egregious. that said the defense misses ekblad. Not just because if his play but it affects the rest of them. When he’s back I wouldn’t mind 28 in place of 77.
If they didn’t have a chance to review it, I’d agree. But they did and still got it wrong. They had an opportunity to correct their mistake with review. To make it worse, it took a goal off the board. It won’t hurt the panthers, but if anyone from that crew makes the playoffs, it’s a joke.
Can they reduce it to no penalty or just downgrade to a minor? Either way I think there’s contact to the head and I’m not mad at the call. PK isn’t wrong but it’s an understandable call. Thought The bad calls tonight were just the early 3rd period ones mostly. But the Lightning don’t look great and got away with a win. Oh well
They can reduce to nothing. Hence the annoyance. Yes. The third period was awful. The multiple missed trips. The soft holding on Bennett. But most egregious of all was letting the lighting get away with delaying the game by attempting a line change after an icing and then allowing them to cheat the draw 3 times on the next icing. This is basic stuff that can’t be allowed. but like you said. Oh well. Absolute worst case is that this game is the difference between winning the division and 2nd place. Who cares.
Happened right across from me. There was another a few minutes before it as well. Like I said, One of the worst officiated 3rd periods I’ve ever seen.
Sheary falling doesn’t matter Glancing contact on the shoulder first doesn’t matter It was an unnecessary hit to the head that could’ve easily been avoided, by Kulikov
He wasn’t falling that fast, his head didn’t move enough after Kulikov committed to the hit that would’ve changed the outcome. They had plenty of time to look at it and got the call right. PK’s argument makes no sense from a rules basis.
Reading the rules I think a minor is totally justified but in no way imo did this meet the criteria for a match penalty which is defined as a deliberate intent to injure.
People need to calm down. Regular season momentum meets shit. Panthers looked terrible starting the Boston series last year. I still believe the team is the right roster playing the right style. Just rest Bob and go into the playoffs healthy at this point. although would be nice to hang onto home ice for round 1.
