While yes to the above..there could be concerns with Bob letting in saveable goals suddenly and the save on cousins is the type that can haunt a series. I ageee panthers looked like the better team for a large portion of the game and even early 3rd before the goal. But Bob has to stay hot.
also not necessarily a lazy play…just a bad flip. But the flips out of the zone have basically been a signature all playoffs. He just didn’t get enough on that one.
Yes and no. Flips aren't really something that gets fanned on more than 1/100 times. He got nothing on that flip which let Stone knock it down. Doesn't matter on to game 2 where we even it up tonight.
Had a good view of that as my view was right on the goal line. It hit the camera so cleanly and tkachuk’s reaction was pretty subtle so it almost looked like he hit the lost but you knew there was no way it didn’t go in. I just looked at the ref. OT goal and even the Montour goal was so loud. Loudest I’ve ever heard a sporting event. And the new speakers are niiiiiice. But too bad the my belong to the NHL
I cropped out my friend and his dad and all 3 of them have that same expression on their face. It’s such a weird photo.
Funny story of his. Panthers used to do a fundraiser right before training camp with the players. Huselius was going into his rookie year. My friend's dad went with some of his beer league buddies. They were talking about their game the next night, Huselius heard them talking and said and I direct quote, "You play hockey game? I play?" Guy then actually showed up and skated with them the next night in some meh tier beer league game.
Feeling pretty good entering the season especially if Knight is ready to go. He’s looked sharp in preseason from what I’ve gathered. Defense will be tough but the short off-season hopefully keeps things going early.
2 games in and the meltdowns are already starting. Defense is obviously an issue, but they are controlling the pace of play in both games. Evan Rodrigues looks to be a fantastic signing.
Because it’s last year over again. Literally last regular season was “controlling play, advanced metrics, still losing” was the story all year and it nearly should have cost them a playoff spot. The concerns are justified if Bob is giving up blah goals and the division looks as stacked as it is.
1) It's two games 2) We saw what happened when the shooting regressed to the mean. 3) As for Bob, no argument. He needs to be great to keep the team afloat with the defense this bad. 4) It's 2 games against teams who should make the playoffs this year. I'll panic when they drop points in those kind of games to the Philly's of the world. 5) with the injuries on D, this team needs to tread water until Montour comes back. Stay on the bubble and then turn it on in the 2nd half.
Not panicking but I get why you would. With the short break I anticipated a hot start. That could happen but so far looks more like it could be a grind. I just hate we are back to wristers from the blue line and hope for the best. HATED that last year.
yea, that strangely hit the feels hard. Also, that Mikkola-Kulikov pairing needs to be jettisoned into the sun. It is not good at all.
Before wanting to get into the duress in already feeling (more due to our division strength than just our play) but CF3234 you cannot have a serious podcast when you have a person loudly saying a presidents trophy is more worthy of a celebration than an eastern conference championship. that’s trying too hard to a level I just never considered.
yea, pretty sure that was TJ and Jacob and I both jumped down his throat for it being a dumb comment. TJ just tries way too hard to be a contrarian at times. That was definitely one of them and it landed flat.
This team needs a wing slap shot for the PP. just still isn’t an obvious PP success point. The bumper to reinhart is ok but hard to get and everyone is covering it. Tkachuk slamming it home will start to work sometimes. But there isn’t a blast that we set up at all.
Barkov has a good one Timer from the wing. For whatever reason they stopped going to it. I don’t like that they use Tkachuk as the trigger man. There’s just so few options when he’s got the pic below the goal line. It’s either try to stuff it in or a pass to Reinhart.
I don’t even remember what a barkov slap shot looks like. I like tkachuk there in the playoffs. Those physical goals down low for the playoff style of hockey when things are more compressed. But yeah in the regular season it would be better if he was more in space. But we are really missing a big time shoot long threat on those power plays and hoping for just goals within 6 feet of the net.
Right ne too. I think in the playoffs even from the PP you move him back there to create high pressure from close. Regular season I think you play more open.
Really enjoyed the one (1) period of maximum offense panthers hockey we got this season. also still wondering what the plan on our PP is because apparently weak wristers from the point is still the strategy.
While it’s funny it would have been way funnier for Ekky himself to stand and taunt brooks at his place of work.
It’s time to have a conversation about Uvis Balinskis. how the fuck did zito hit on 4 fucking defensive signings costing a total of 5.5 million in cap space
It’s time to talk about this parlay. I do need to get back on taking the panthers 100% of the time if they go down a goal.
What would a Kane deal look like? I’m not entirely thrilled splitting up too much of the team right now given how they are playing really well as a team, especially defensively. We need offensive PP firepower for sure so I know he’s add value but I have no clue what a deal looks like. EDIT: I’m dumb. He’s a free agent. I pay little attention to other teams.
yup, he's a free agent and all they can really offer is a 1 year 1 million dollar deal. If he's willing to take that, you do backflips because there is no risk at all.
Too often you guys just say the panthers got goalie’d just because they had a high volume of shots even if none of them really made the goalie give extra effort. That first period is what getting goalie’d actually looks like.
I don’t know what goes into each metric but team defense has to be a cause of a lot now where it’s elevating these metrics. The PK success is just one example where guys are synced up and they aren’t making it look hard. They are just playing well and playing team defense. If ekblad and Montour can actually start to generate offense though maybe we can really pressure Boston.
Christ your twitter needs to stop saying the words “puck luck” and posting money puck screenshots like that means anything when the team has lost 4 recent games with a combined one actual goal (tonight’s being a total fluke). The team struggles with shooting period. Its not the goalies.
That was me. And I’m not saying they should be winning. I’m only saying they are getting bad shooting results right now. I’m also not worried about it. Yet
Adding on. This team didn't forget how to shoot. Tkachuk didn't forget how to shoot. Neither did Verhaeghe, Montour, Ekblad, and Bennett. The puck just isn't going in for them so far. I mean they were 2 combined inches from being up 2-0 in the first period yesterday and likely cruising to a win. But the puck didn't go in. In the 2nd they got sloppy hunting for goals and gave up rush chances the blues didn't miss on. I am not saying this team is "unlucky" or just getting bad bounces against them or bad officiating. It's just the nature of the game sometimes. The puck just doesn't find its way into the net. "Puck luck" is just a term of art, not someone actually saying a team is cursed or whatever. The process is fine. They are generating good scoring chances at a much higher rate than their opponents. They just can't finish them and it is in their heads. It will regress to the mean sooner rather than later.
Still concerned a bit with depth and defensive scoring but man this reinhart season is something. That power play bumper move isn’t always there but it’s fun when it’s clicking.
Isn’t like 4 goals in 4 games and only one did he actually be the last one to touch the puck before it went in with a goalie present?
