From Dane Brugler: 82 Bralen Trice Age: 23Height: 6-3Weight: 245 Trice doesn’t have exceptional edge speed or length and needs to be more consistent in the run game, but his athletic urgency and violent play style will help translate his college disruption to the pros. He projects as a scheme-diverse rotational NFL end.
Who was that guy we got a few years ago from Auburn that never panned out? Really hope this isn't the same thing.
I think that was him, he was a second round pick and never did much and I think was injured for his second or third season right?
I think he was hurt going in to his rookie year and never could stay healthy after that. Rarely saw the field.
FWIW, Kiper is pretty positive on Orhorhoro Spoiler I have been really high on defensive tackle Ruke Orhorhoro, who made my list of favorite prospects. I have him at No. 45 overall in my rankings, and he's my No. 3 DT. The Falcons took him at No. 35 and got a super-talented run defender who has pass-rush traits next to Grady Jarrett. The only issue here is Atlanta had to give up its third-rounder to move up eight spots, which is a lot to give up. Orhorhoro went from not playing football until his junior year of high school to a three-year starter for the Tigers. That's remarkable, and you can see on tape that he is still learning the nuances of the game. The 6-foot-4, 294-pound lineman has some upside as an interior penetrator; he had 11.5 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss since 2021. Orhorhoro can play as a 5- or 3-technique, which ups his value at the next level. He is strong at the point of attack and can move guards and centers off the ball. He's great against the run. I really like his upside. Projection: Orhorhoro has had a great pre-draft process, rising all the way to being my No. 3 defensive tackle. I see a fit for him in Round 2.
The Athletic NFL Draft analyst Dane Brugler on Dorlus: A three-year starter at Oregon, Dorlus played up and down the line of scrimmage in defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi’s scheme, playing on the edge, over the tackle and on the interior. Over the last three years, he earned All-Pac-12 honors each season and posted nearly identical pressure numbers (46 in 2023, 46 in 2022 and 42 in 2021). With his quick first step and long, strong arms, Dorlus can make his presence felt from various angles across the defensive line. He showed improved handwork in 2023 but is more of a “throw everything but the kitchen sink” type of player and needs to continue improving his pad level and building a move-to-move plan to be more efficient once engaged. Overall, Dorlus needs to find better consistency on a snap-to-snap basis, but he has the natural power and agility to be a versatile disruptor in an NFL defensive line rotation. He projects best as a base end (in even or odd fronts) who can also reduce inside on subpackages.
Best deep thrower of the football in the draft. A athletic monster who needs to develop a little and 2 producers on the line. I don’t hate it
This is probably definitely a bad sign, but obviously Skip Bayless, Michael A. Smith, and Colin Cowherd all love the pick. I'm not going to lie though, Cowherd makes some good points. Spoiler I loved the Penix pick too, ask Gaknight -- he was who I wanted all along.
He most assuredly will not have the time to throw he did in College. He's not accurate under pressure. I'm ok with the other picks although the 2nd was a reach too.
The Athletic NFL Draft analyst Dane Brugler on Bertrand: A three-year starter at Notre Dame, Bertrand was the Mike linebacker in head coach Marcus Freeman’s 4-2-5 base scheme. The 27th multi-season captain in school history, he led the Irish in tackles as a sophomore, junior and senior — and has an extensive resume off the field as well. An instinctive player, Bertrand diagnoses play speed well in the run game and closes with urgency, because he trusts what his eyes tell him. He gets everything out of his talent, but some of his tightness creates a small margin for error in his movements. Overall, Bertrand is sawed-off with only adequate range in coverage, but he processes well with the play recognition skills and competitive makeup that will endear him to NFL coaches. He projects as a backup linebacker with rotational value in the NFL.
Bertrand is an excellent player just not sure he has the athleticism for the NFL, instincts are really good though so that can erase some concerns with his speed
We dropped Bertrand and told him to walk on so he went to ND. All you need know about his athleticism. Good player tho
The Falcons have drastically overdrafted on every single pick other than one (Trice). Not a single player has outstanding size, speed, or skill set to warrant it either. If anything they’re mostly undersized and lack speed. This might be the first no doubter F- draft a on team has put together. First number being their overall ranking, second being their draft pick Penix 43-8 Ruke 68-35 Trice 89-74 Dorlus 79-109 JD 270-143 McClellan 279- 186 Washington 349-187 (40th ranked WR)
Unless Grady is hurt or Trice is really good from jump street, every player we have drafted is a back up this year at best
Falcons just continually draft like that one dude in every fantasy league that starts reaching for "sleepers" almost immediately, not realizing the whole point of sleepers is that they get picked late.
Silver lining, we only took one dude from a shitty big 10 school. Mostly drafted from big time programs
Sounds like we picked up pitts 5th year option. wasn’t sure what they would do with that. If he can’t breakout with Kirk, then he’s a gigantic bust
Oh yea, I’m optimistic. But he’s gotta prove it wasn’t a fluke. I blame qb play for sure, but he had some moments where it looked like he wasn’t trying very hard
Got to be one of the lowest ever in the new offensive era, would love to see some history on that stat
I was going to be ok with this mfer playing QB for us this season as long as we put money everywhere else.
