So, ughhhhh.... I just finished binge-watching all three seasons in four days. I stayed up until 4am last night lol. I'm pretty sure Dark is officially my favorite TV show of all time. I'm kind of sad I didn't get to watch it "live" with you guys. Everything about the show was damn near perfect. The acting, casting of different timelines, cinematography, score, pacing, and attention to detail were all phenomenal. I felt like I had a handle on about 75% of what was going on during the first two seasons (used the internet to fill in the rest) but around the middle of season three when there were like 10 different Martha's running around I was lost as fuck lol. I just figured that they would bring it all around and they did. If you would have told me in season one that I would wind up caring about Jonas' and Martha's relationship as much as I did in season two and three I would have laughed in your face. I wish I could time travel back to when I was just starting the show.
Also, I swear to god I thought for a second that when Jonas and Martha appeared in the origin world that they were going to be the cause of death of Marek, Sonja, and Charlotte thus creating another fucking loop.
One of the coolest parts about this show and this thread were the guys who caught on later and ran here to tell us. I hope people continue to add to this thread like that. You really can’t explain Dark so when people find it and feel it like you did it’s p fkn cool.
Finally finished. Really enjoyed the ending. I do want to make sure that I state that any of you who claim to have been able to follow that show completely without confusion are monstrous liars and I hate you.
I’ve watched all three seasons multiple times and sometimes I watched episodes twice before moving to the next. For the most part, although I wasn’t totally sold on my comprehension I felt I had a well enough idea of what was happening
Always fun welcoming people to our little cult...think this show will be that way for a long time...i think in 10 years it will be one of those shows with a huge cult following
I think if you sat down and watched it from episode 1 to the finale straight through you would be very lost. Being able to have a year between seasons to read up, rewatch, and digest everything really helped.
After season 1 I had to look at a chart on who was related to who (and from what year) before moving on to season 2. It helped a lot.
I've only watched season 3 once but need to watch it at least 2 more times before I really think I'd get everything. I think I watched Season 1 three times in a little over a month and Season 2 I rewatched immediately after I finished it.
I finally got around to watching this, binged season one over the last couple nights. I guess the biggest question I have is, why in the hell did I wait so long?
I haven’t read the thread to avoid spoilers. They never referenced why Ines was in the picture at the beginning of the series next to the suicide note, but she’s been torn away the next time you see it. For that matter, the original picture of them all changes from them smiling to frowning when you see it the third time at Ines’s house. Did I totally miss something, or do you still not know at the end of season 1 why?
I honestly don't recall it being that important. It all comes together holistically so I don't think you need to focus on any one detail. That said, I highly recommend using some of the online charts to remember relationships from season two on, but they can be spoilery in some situations.
I was in on this show, but never watched the last season. Part of it was because I have no idea wtf was going on. I enjoyed it, but I was massively confused so by the time the final season was released I just kinda gave up instead of trying to read up on recaps.
The only thing I really needed to remain unconfused was the chart. The one I originally used was not as spoilery, but maybe it came out in an earlier season. Spoiler
I have the final two episodes of the series to watch tonight. Me trying to keep up with season 3 thus far:
Done. Just an A+ series all around. I loved the finale, but episode 7 was Really looking forward to what 1899 has in store.
im watching the last two right now and legit have no idea what’s going on and haven’t paid anywhere close to enough attention
The scene in ep 7 where the show comes full circle is honestly probably my favorite moment in television history. Hitting all the big moments with the background music is just God-tier
Dark really fucked me up for media moving forward. I kinda expect everything to have such care and attention to detail and it’s really unfair
It honestly consumed me for the like a year and a half. Started watching at the end of season two. Watched the first two seasons three times before season 3. No show since has really captured my attention. Still waiting for shows I’ve always watched to come back, but so far, nothing new has done it.
Yep, i agree. it was one of the last shows I have watched with laser sharp focus and i would think about it at work sometimes. No other shows really got me like that one
Convinced a friend group of mine to watch the show. We all live close by and are going to have watch parties. 6 people who haven't watched with me and one other who has watched it. I'm giddy
I tried to watch this with my ex and she made it through 3 episodes and gave up. I need me a thick chick who fucks with Dark
I just finished ep 2 of season 3 I love how they dont really care if you understand what's going on or not. Sometimes it'll pause and kind of explain stuff but other times i'm just lost and as long as I give it time it will start to make sense.
just finished not sure I loved the finale, but the journey was still very good Spoiler My annoyance comes more from dumping a new theory in the finale after having gone through such a long journey to get there. Also i'm not a time travel expert, but it seemed like the entire series they subscribed to the "what happened happened" theory but then in the finale they change it to the "actually we can erase everyone by fixing this one event". But maybe im wrong no both of those and someone can correct me
been awhile since I watched, but iirc they were basically operating in a multidimensional time loop (like an expanded version of Doctor Strange 1) and then broke the loop by preventing the catalyst that lead to creating the loop. I'm sure there is a much better and accurate description somewhere on YouTube.
Pretty sure some of the “what’s happened has happened” and the “we can fix everything if we do this” people were both saying that at times throughout the show to manipulate people to be on their team. I don’t think anyone in the first two seasons knew Jack shit for sure. could be way off bc it’s been a couple years for me but pretty sure Adam and Old Mahta were the only ones that actually knew with any certainty
That’s kind of accurate. It’s like the “what happened happened” only applies to the two new worlds created so they found the origin world in which that doesn’t apply. Which I get makes sense, my point is more for 99% of the show it was the other theory and to just randomly insert the new idea in the finale and override what the rest of the show taught us is where my frustration is. Would’ve played better for me if they had introduced that concept early in s3 and s3 was more of a trial and error in trying to find those origin points so it doesn’t feel like such an abrupt departure right at the end.
You’re correct. Adam thought he could fix things, but as a viewer they showed us that you couldn’t. So while that’s a big moment for the character, it’s not as big of a moment for the audience.
not reading the thread, but been binging this the past couple weeks. two episodes into season 2 and loving it. having a hell of a time keeping some of the less prominent people straight through the different years, but don't want to look it up at risk of spoiling myself either. there wouldn't be a decent resource out there for looking stuff up by any chance? also I have a specific question that I'm not sure if it's something I completely missed or just hasn't been revealed yet. Spoiler who is the girl in the photo with HG Tannhaus from what I believe is the 50s that the chief of police and her husband found. was that their daughter? really wish I could find a character map and set it for spoilers based on where I am in the show the way they used to have for ASOIAF/GOT.
this may help. Spoilers are based on where you are at in the series so you can click on maps with what is known at that point. I found these very helpful, especially in season 2 and 3. Also while depending on what you click on the web you do have the potential to be spoiled, I felt the benefit of knowing who was who and their relationships at any time outweighs that.
Don't think you've missed anything based on where you said you are and IIRC that answer is very complicated and spoilery.
THought the first 2 seasons were excellent. I'm on season 3 and there is so much jumping around between different universes and time periods, I am losing interest.
It streamlines at the end as all of the threads come back together. But I agree that season 3 isn't as strong as the first 2.
