Never played a celestial warlock but just googled it. Sounds fun. As long as you max charisma and have eldritch blast, you really can’t make a “bad” warlock.
There's not really much they could do in this one. This was recorded before shit really hit the fan. It's not live so they can't respond, and they still have a sponsorship contract so I doubt we hear much from then until that's handled.
they have a lot of reasons to take their time before commenting but i dont think wotc have sponsored the show in years
DND beyond has been a sponsor for a lot of C3. Sam reads mini ads at whispers. They also almost always have dnd beyond ads to start their break (they had an Abria one tonight in fact).
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/1423-an-update-on-the-open-game-license-ogl We'll see how long they remain true to that statement...but it's nice words for the moment.
Matt’s interpretation of the fey wild and hags are just fucking top tier. man, he’s just an S-tier lore maker and world builder. His pace is too slow for my taste, and he doesn’t drive plot as forcefully as I’d like, but his world is so deep and creative. What a talent.
Got to play again yesterday. Still doing Curse of Strahd. Got a little bit of story and then did the"Festival" in Vallaki. Was a fun time making up carnival games and throwing in random NPCs, some they had met, some they hadn't (some from the module, some I made up). Did shell game where they use perception to guess which shell the object is under. My sons dragonborn barbarian played like 10+ times until he finally rolled high enough lol Did an archery contest which was pretty cool. You had 8 shots at targets of ranges of 50, 100, 200, and 300 yards. Targets over 150yds are at disadvantage and the AC goes up for each distance. Points are awarded equal to the distance of the target. So you could steady-Eddie it and just take the easy 50 points every round, or you could take a risk and go for the longer ones to really track up points, or fail miserably. Our ranger ended up winning that, thanks to some inspiration on a 300yd shot. But I also got to slip in an NPC I made that is probably going to be recurring. Her name is technically a hint about the faction she represents but it's in German so I'll be very surprised if they figure it out before the reveal. Also had an arm wrestling contest. Basically had it set so you would do contested strength rolls. Start at 90°, one win moves to 45°, another win would be the pin, nat 20 or national 1 moves 2 spots whichever direction. Had some good back and forths. My friend's daughter's halfling druid almost beat my sons dragonborn lol Had the local head of the guard (Izek Strazni, if anyone knows any of the characters from the adventure) enter and got to the final against my sons barbarian. Sons first roll was a nat 20! BAM! Game over! lol Then, of course, had a drinking game. Up to 4 rounds (plus bonus rounds if necessary) with increasing constitution saves each round. Failure just meant you were unable to finish the tankard all in one go. Nat 1 or failure by 10 or more meant immediate vomiting. Added a couple brothers the characters have met, along with an NPC I made up: a little old lady named Mother Koren, who I have the highest constitution bonus, intending her to be the big challenger. First roll for her was a nat 1 lol None of our characters made it past round 3. The halfling druid "doesn't drink" but decided to play anyway. Rolled awesome on the first two rounds, including a nat 20 on the first round. Third round she failed by more than 10 and we ended the day with her vomiting lol
In a Strahd campaign as well. Just had our (probably)first visit to the windmill and met the sisters. Will make it to Vallaki next Sunday. Seems like there's a lot of story points possible in the city so I'm curious if we'll get into this also. Expecting to spend a few sessions in town. In the future, can you spoiler story stuff? I've tried to make it a point to keep from learning anything about this module, though our DM has already done a great job introducing lots of non-module aspects to customize it to our characters.
Sorry, I'll keep that in mind for future. That's just stuff I decided to put in, so your DM will likely have something different in Vallaki
gonna stream session 1 of an irl campaign spinoff tonight. drop by if you're bored. Spoiler twitch.tv/humongousprofundus
Going to see the first 3 episodes of The Legend of Vox Machina Season 2 at the theater tonight with my son and buddy and his daughter. Should be fun!
So I made a celestial warlock who's patron is a dragon spirit. The character and his community despise dragons as they drove them away from their homes into a shitty cold village. He's saved my character from dying in a storm, and all the character knows is that he is keeping an eye on/scouting the mortals on behalf of the dragons. Curious if anyone ITT can offer me a good flaw or personality trait to go with the character? Looking for anything to make him have some sort of edge/issue, and add some fun.
Refuses to wear a shirt. Like almost to the extent he believes his powers will be weakened if he has to wear a shirt. it’s fun to play a character who has no idea how much value their money has. Like will tip 100 gold randomly or not argue with shopkeepers/pay them more than the item is worth.
Just got through episode 44, they tried to make that fight as hard as possible. Their first idea was funny but then when it became obvious they had to fight, I have no idea what they were doing. Second time already in this campaign they’ve tried to run and could have had really bad consequences.
I definitely think it's easier for some to start at the beginning of a tale, rather than jumping in almost halfway thru (weren't they like 9th level already at the beginning of Kraghammer?) Jester was great Veth was good Caleb was good Yasha was meh Beau was okay Molly didn't feel like Taliesin had figured out yet Caduceus was okay as a character but clutch in gameplay mechanics Fjord was kind of boring but had at least one epic moment I don't know. Maybe it's just because they were my first experience getting back into D&D but with Vox Machina I just loved them all from the jump. Scanlan and Grog were awesome. I loved the stupid rivalry games between Grog and Vax. The shenanigans were great. Not that Mighty Nein didn't have humor as well. To each their own I suppose
The tone of 2 was too dark and brooding for me. Beau was unbearable for the first half but was solid by the end, fjord was solid, yasha was meh, Sam was 100x more entertaining as Scanlan. Caleb’s story was amazing, but his personality was a wet towel. Cad was fine. Molly was awful. to each his own. I KNOW I’m in the minority, C2 is far more beloved than C1, to me it’s my least favorite of the 3. c1 was more fun and entertaining. C2 absolutely had a richer, deeper and more intense overall theme and story.
I just thought season one was the grog and scanlan show. Percy was interesting, vax and vex were boring, keyleth was a disaster, and pike just wasn’t around enough. Plus I thought all of the romance sucked besides pike and scanlan
yeah, both scanlan and vaxleth were too much for me. keyleth had a nice backstory but she kinda sucked too much. vax, vex, grog, scanlan, and pike were all very shallow characters. percy was the only well thought out character. matt's storytelling and the novelty of it all carried them pretty early on imo.
Marisha not knowing the game almost killed the entire party pretty early on and then of course the goldfish. grog wasn’t deep but I thought Travis played a 6 intelligence character masterfully. Grog is a top tier character for me because of Travis. now you have me thinking, what’s travis’ best character ever? All 4 of the ones he’s played in non-one shots have been great.
Also I want to take a moment to say how great Ashley has been this campaign. Fearn is an absolute joy
it’s the ultimate improv character, no matter what is said to her or what the situation, her answer is always “yes and”
we have a small but passionate group here. honestly, cr is one of the absolute best stories in the gaming industry and if you haven't really dove into it you totally should. not even talking in universe, which is amazing, just how it all began and then blew the fuck up.
Probably won’t go that deep into it but LoVM is amazing and pretty pumped about the new one they have coming out. If it can snag a person like me with no knowledge about the backstory then they’re doing it right.
Started into Not Another DnD Podcast yesterday. The style is much more conducive periodic listening in the car. The 4 hour runtimes of CR is so daunting when I don’t just sit down with the intent to listen.
trying to watch exu again. my last attempt lasted about 30 minutes. this one is going better. in the first episode they make a joke about ferne is jennifer coolidge and now i can't not see/hear it
