they're one of the guys i'm subbed to. i knew i saw that title recently about the hippo. i'm only 800-1000 though. depending on 5 or 10 minute
It's the opposite for me, sadly. I've been on a chess sabbatical for a few months now, and probably need to get back on that train. I tend to sit around 1000-1100, in 5-10 minute games, so y'all are all better than me.
Yea right now I’m getting tons of like +4 middle game positions and failing to convert. I play aggressive then forget about king safety or I miscalculate a 2-3 move sequence. Super frustrating because I’m stuck around 1300.
I've had a few instances of having to reboot to find a game but haven't had any issues once I'm in a game and none with the daily puzzle
Lichess user master race reporting in. feels good when your rapid rating is 1900 (1500 chess.com equivalent lol)
This is something I should know but I keep running into trouble as black when they play e4, I play e5, they play kf3, I play kc6 then they play d4. If I take i lose a pawn and we exchange knights and they are just more developed. If I try to defend they just push and now my knight has to jump somewhere bad. I just keep getting in bad positions or losing material
The scotch! My favorite e4 to play as white! Just take pawn and then don’t take back with knight, instead focusing on developing kf6. If they take your knight, you take back with b pawn, giving your bishop easy developing via a file. Then when they push e pawn, simply step queen in front preventing the take, then your knight can hop to d5, then their e pawn is way over extended. you don’t win the opening, but it’s even out of the opening. I play that line weekly. or just play the karo or scandy (or Sicilian if you are a sweaty nerd)
Finally hit 1400 blitz on chess.com even though the site sucks I feel like in games where the server crashed I’ve been awarded wins when I was way ahead. This was even when it was my move and the game got abandoned.
The server just crapped out on me while I was up 7 points of material and the engine had me up 12.09 with over 5 mins on the clock. Took the L via clock. Absolutely maddening
After posting this I got smacked down to like 1220 and about a week later I’ve now crossed 1500. Playing 3-0 only, still awful at end games but I’m in completely winning positions after 15 moves a high % of the time.
the best way to get higher rating is to switch to lichess i was stuck in some 1100-1300 purgatory for over a year. now i'm 1600 or whatever on lichess no matter if i win or lose.
I’m no different a player than I was a week ago. I feel like a lot of it is momentum and continuing to play when you’re seeing things well and stopping when you’re constantly missing obvious moves.
World chess championship starts this weekend. They’ve done a wonderful thing and set Kazakhstan as the hosting location. Wonderful. I’ll definitely be waking up at 2am for a month to watch this, for suresies.
Got a pretty nice position and 30min advantage like 5 moves in today then it just completely got away from him.
I just don’t understand taking the knight on f6 rather than the underdefended pawn on c4 or 5 (I’m going off memory now). An early 1.5-0.5 advantage now means Ding has to be aggressive though, which is better for the overall match.
Absolutely incredible move for black Spoiler Black only has one legal move to win Real game too: https://www.chess.com/analysis/game/live/75960098099?tab=analysis
basically any other move. They went from 95% chance to win into something I've never seen before: a forced self mate Best move is apparently the other bishop back to G3
If you go qf7 the king just moves again and you don’t get anywhere. G3 is the right move, didn’t see the Queen covering the bishop
The world chess championship between Nepo and Ding has, after a lot of back and forth decisive games, culminates in a final classical game 14 on Saturday (5am est for any of you degenerates). Tied 6-6, Ding with the white piece advantage. If nothing conclusive, tiebreaks on the 30th.
Went to the chess hall of fame in st Louis yesterday with my boys. Like most things in st Louis it was underwhelming
