I’m quickly running out of superlatives to describe this show. Far and away the best Star Wars content Disney has put out.
Ya that was really well done. So he couldn’t swim so he had to stay? I figured he’d jump. Rather die than be a prisoner.
I feel like the cool thing in this thread is to talk about how different this show is than other star wars shows and how great it is. So I'm about to say a bunch of stuff that is going to piss yall off but needs to be said. This show is very different than the other star wars mini series but that doesn't per se make it better. It is slower paced, the character development is more thorough, and there is less action. That doesn't make it better or worse. I think the primary reason why I enjoyed the other one-off star wars series more than Andor is that they relate back more to the original star wars canon and/or characters. Andor feels more isolated from the the star wars universe and feels more like a psychological thriller. I think Andor is good but not overwhelmingly compelling. I definitely wouldn't say it is the best of these one-off star wars series. But I do still enjoy it.
I think Andor feeling isolated from the star wars universe and less tied in to the original character is because it's focusing on the nobody's that lay the groundwork for the rebellion who will be long dead before seeing the fruits of their labor. I think Luthen's speech at the end of this week's episode highlighted that perfectly.
For me it's the best star wars things because it's also the least star wars thing. Star wars as a skin/style is beautiful, but the products that have come out of the universe have felt like cash grabs. I don't need lightsabers and nostalgia of the galaxy's only family. I want other normal stories told in the galaxy's design, which is what this is.
Not at all. I think after Mando/Kenobi they needed something that was a complete change of pace, non-"hero based." Like others have said it's just a completely different perspective of the SW universe. It's not really so much of "this is the greatest show ever" more so "they are doing a great job of telling the story they're trying to tell." Which most people who critique Kenobi and Boba would say they didn't do a great job on.
Donald Faison and Zach Braff were talking about in on their Scrubs podcast and described it as adult Star Wars. That is a great way to describe it imo
Which is what I've been wanting for years. I get Star Wars was originally aimed at children but a lot of us grew up and would like to keep watching it.
Loved this season, only started a few weeks ago so got first 8 episodes in over a few days. So so much better than obi-wan
Not saying it’s hugely important but guessing Keno’s speech about helping out your fellow man struggling gets him his help to get to land.
This analogy was made more than a month ago and I find it more and more true every episode. What they're doing is hard and could go sideways easily, but the quality of it has been remarkable. All of this is such a slow burn and could have been really boring if the acting, story and tone weren't so on point. There's no way the Mandalorian or Kenobi spends 3 entire episodes in that prison and makes you feel all that. It's just a completely different kind of show, so I don't really want to compare them to one another and instead just appreciate each for what they are. This is significantly better than I what I thought it would be.
I’m sorry, but you’re just wrong if you think any Mando, Boba, or Obi Wan seasons are better. You’re entitled to your opinion, but opinions can, in fact, be wrong.
Those shows did some cool things. Especially Mando. But the writing and character building in this is so good. But I understand that's not for everyone. I personally love shows like Mad Men and the Wire. Slow burns with great characters. But some people just want to see some action.
This show fucking kicks ass I feel like every week it just one ups itself to prove that stick the landing and this is up there with some of the best seasons of tv iyam you could take this story, put it in any timeline, pull the space elements and Star Wars stuff out of it, and it would still rock
Just finished Ep 10, goddamn this show is great. I was pretty tired of the SW #content but this is welcome change of pace
I assume ep11 and ep12 get him into the rebellion proper, and then we get a time skip into S2 where he’s established and that leads us into the R1 story
this is also a solid read https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/t...luthen-rael-monologue-easter-eggs-1235258961/
Thought the same thing and excited. I thought when I started I was going to be able to binge the whole thing but I caught up and no fucks are given because it’s fantastic.
I wasn't shitting on the Jedi movies or shows. I was saying the SW universe is so robust and has so many subplots that you don't have to include the force for a great story, and I am enjoying the change of pace.
No disagreement there. The Mando episode where he was building/working on the Naboo Starfighter was awesome. Just felt like a normal day in the life of a regular person.
Great set up for the finale Spoiler -didn’t cass tell Jyn her dad would be proud of her at the very end of rogue one? -is Luthen going to end up being a Jedi? -did we ever figure out who the connection was?
Spoiler -great pilot -carries around an object tht looks very much like a light saber -he told cassian that the crystal was worth a ton of money but was priceless to him -the Jedi stuff in his shop
Spoiler All good points but wouldn’t the Empire pretty easily find a Jedi still living on Coruscant and conducting business with a senator? Mom Mothma said that her driver is an ISB plant, so I would think them checking out Luthen’s identity would have been done. Perhaps he reveres the Jedi as other anti-imperialists have also done?
Spoiler I’m like 30% sure he has some connection to jedi. Probably just the show making it seem like he might be. But he does dress kind of like one and why did he have this?
Spoiler Oh and in his speech he said he’s been doing it for 15 years which lines up with end of clone wars, I believe
This makes me want to wait until next week to watch, but I'm too much of a helpless bitch, so I won't.
man fuck i thought the entire show was out when i started my binge the other day - now i have to wait and i'm none-too-pleased about it. has luthen's character been hashed out in other SW books/shows or is this the first introduction we're getting to him?
