I'm about to start my re-read of the series. Going to go in using this board and tower of the hand and westeros.org.
Finally got around to starting the books. 120 pages in and am excited to continue. Have the whole series on my iPad mini ready to go
Start a diary thread and post your thoughts as you read through it, letting us know how far you've read so you can discuss it with us without worrying about spoilers. The book threads are riddled with spoilers and shouldn't be read until you finish the book
Will do. I didn't actually read the thread, I know better than that. I clicked on page one scrolled down posted my excitement then got the hell out
Started on the show. Wanted to read the books but never had time due to grad school, which I finished in may, and work.
how was that, btw. I'm nerdy enough to consider kopping it for the $6 or whatever it is but I"m on the fence
oh it's worth it. there were several things in there I missed and hadn't considered. Granted it's all speculation and mostly analysis, it's still entertaining. Plus it has a brief overview of the Dunk and Egg tales and how they play into the main story line (with more theories).
Rereading book 1 right meow. On the same page it says whoever Jon snows mother is left no trace of herself in him, and tyrion talks about how even a dwarf can look down on the rest of the world from on top of a dragon. Early foreshadowing possibly?
I'm also remembering why I hate catelyn so much, its hard to read through her parts, and it makes me dislike Ned that he didn't lay the smack down on that stupid bitch
Yeah, I don't really care. Spoiler I just think book 1 is a little early to put the R+L=J idea in someone's head.
I'm also re-reading this now and I will post my highlighted portions in some appropriate thread. One thing that makes this book different from the others is GRRM thought this book was going to be the first part of a trilogy. I think there is a lot of hidden info packed in these pages.
That's what the author was doing. The only thing that would be a spoiler in there is the possible foreshadowing of tyrion being a dragon rider, which could be totally incorrect. I remember my first readthrough thinking that Ned probs didn't actually have an affair
38/50, and really ashamed that I forgot Hodor, since he totally boosts his mentions by mentioning himself repeatedly. Ashamed.
So Tyrion is suspicious of Jaime and Cersei right after Bran gets pushed off the tower, but why? Do you guys think he heard something or do you think he just read the room when they were talking about Bran?
I realize it's a book thread, but I rewatched the first 3 seasons last week and I think he was just reading the room. It was the show's way of letting you know right off the bat that Tyrion's way of thinking and behaving didn't always fall in line with the rest of the family.
I think he read the room. Plus, he knew Bran fell from a tower and his siblings liked to fuck in secret and couldn't for a month.
This is the 4th time I've read AGoT and I'm always amazed with how dense it is. Not just with story, but with all the history and lore. 250 pages in and the groundwork is laid for probably a dozen fan theories, the RW is foreshadowed. The stuff between Ned and Arya discussing Bran's future and what he can be will probably prompt some more theories with how the show has been this season. So. Damn. Good.
Arya asks if Bran can still be a knight when word gets down to King's Landing that Bran woke up and is paralyzed. Ned says no, but that he could still help Rob, be a maester, raise castles like Bran the Builder, be a high septon. I'm sure there was some other stuff in there too. Fan theories will probably be off the charts after this season is over and I'll bet they allude to that chapter a lot.
Just started my first re-read. So much easier, and enjoyable when you know what to look for, dont have to spend much time remember who is who, and where on the map places are. Just read the chapter where Sam gets to the Wall. Him telling the story how his father forced him into taking the Black. Talked about how his Randall said he was fit to touch the hilt of Heart's Bane. Made the scene last week of Sam stealing it even better.
This was my plan too. I just decided to say fuck it. Almost done with GOT. Just going to take my time, read some other books in between and hopefully it wont be too long before I finish ADWD and WoW comes out
I think I'm safe. I have 4 1/2 books to make it through plus the tales of Dunk and Egg. But who the fuck knows. That could take me a year and I could still be looking at a several years wait for TWOW.
