Re: A Game of Thrones (Book 1) Discussion Hey Houndster can you move the bookthread over to this board? http://www.the-mainboard.com/forum/index.php/topic,50605.msg4719062/topicseen.html#new Thanks by the way
Re: A Game of Thrones (Book 1) Discussion I was wondering whether I should move the current book and show threads. I was thinking I should wait a few hours to give people some time to find this place, so they aren't wondering where the fuck their threads went.
Re: A Game of Thrones (Book 1) Discussion good point. I was thinking about making a thread in here for those who have finished all 4 but I think it would be better to import the other one after a few hours
Re: A Game of Thrones (Book 1) Discussion Sup. Halfway through Book1 and just started the Tyrion chapter at the Eyerie (sp?)
Re: A Game of Thrones (Book 1) Discussion I'm 250 pages through Book 1. Writing is really good and I enjoy the POV format.
Re: A Game of Thrones (Book 1) Discussion Just finished yesterday. Great book. I'm afraid to venture into the book two thread for fear of spoilers.
Re: A Game of Thrones (Book 1) Discussion Just finished the first book last night :ohholyfuck: gonna try to get a good chunk of book 2 done today
about a quarter of the way through book 1. really wish I would have read it before the show. now I've got the actors faces cemented onto the book characters. good reading either way though. love it.
No one has to respond if they don't want to but I am wondering that since Robb doesnt have a POV in book 1 if this signifies he isnt a main character in the entire story or just book 1. I mean we have a POV from Sansa for petesake.
I don't know. We had a Ned POV, but he died before the first book was over. I don't think it necessarily signifies all that much. It may be the GRRM just thinks he can sufficiently have the Robb plot etc told through others and not his own POV.
Yeah I don't think it means too much if they have a pov or not. I mean he gives sansa several povs and we all know how worthless she is.
Goodnight sweet book 1. Really enjoyed it, but agree with an above poster, wish I would have read it before the show. Definitely nice having faces to names, but I knew what was coming as I read it, so that took some suspense out of it. Really liked it though, and really liked the stuff not on the show that was in here. Really hope we get a larger order for the coming seasons, so that they don't have to condense so much into so few episodes. Onto book 2.
On another note, I like how the show added some fan service in stuff that wasn't in the book that they could afford to compensate for taking out scenes that would be too time consuming/expensive (i.e Kahl Drogo's fight and they made Bronn and Ser Vardis's fight and the moon door much cooler in the show imo.)
Oh ok. I am halfway through Book 1. I am guessing yo9u are referring to something Bran talks about towards the end of Book 1 when he is down in the tomb because he had a dream.
Yeah others = white walkers. And their little saying they use frequently always calls them the others.
I was a little confused as well. The wildlings are the humans who live beyond the wall, the Others or White Walkers are the dead who come to life. My only question is, in the first episode there seemed to be a bigfoot creature? Was that just a big Other that was wrapped in enough animal clothing that I mistook as one or is there something else out there?
my take is the white walkers are creatures in themselves, and what you saw was a white walker. but those that they kill can also "respawn" as a sort of white walker
Makes sense now. The Arya POV where she is chasing the cat and over hears Arys and the gentleman from the Free Cities talking in the dungeon was well done.
almost done with book 1 and can't believe they actually killed Eddard (I thought he'd died when they ambushed him in the great hall and littlefinger pulled the dagger on him anyway). book is awesome but it feels a little overwhelming thinking there are 4 more already waiting on me. love it.
about 15 chapters from finishing AGOT. yeah I feel ya wolfcross. 4 more to read.... shit is gonna go down.
Grand Maester Pycelle. what is up with him? I remember a scene on the show where it showed him with whore and he was walking upright, then it showed him deliberately hunch over, as if he's been faking that he's some old dude. is he some sort of shape shifting wizard? I don't like him. not one bit. also how do you pronounce Maester? is it master or may-ster.
i pronounce it may-ster, but i noticed they pronounced it differently at winterfell and king's landing
it will be easier to notice the different characters that are actually pycelle the next time you read it.
i say may-ster unless i'm in a hurry then my mind reverts back to lazy and says master. also, zeberdee is struggling ITT
