Just read this morning where Davos was beheaded?!?!?!? Cersei needs a hatefuck for overseeing this. And fuck GRRM for just casually dropping this in there.
Kind of missed this during reading AFFC but just read about these theories on Tower of the Hand. Great site BTW.
Just finished the chapter where Jaime gives his terms to Edmure Tully. All I could think in my head was Gus Johnson saying COOOOOOLD BLODDED.
just finished my reread of AFFC. The first time I read through it I thought it was a chore, now I thoroughly enjoyed it. Picked up on so much stuff I missed the first go through. Can't wait to see what happens with Tom O'Sevens at Riverrun. Also interested in Cersei's prophecy and how her eventual death will play out.
Finished the book last night. I'm going to need someone to explain who Pate is to me. Also, I read the note GRRM put in that said he hoped to have the book out "next year", obviously only to have it come out 5 years after that. I would have been so mad.
I only had a few months between when I finished A Feast for Crows and when A Dance With Dragons came out. I can't imagine how it felt to wait years and years between books. I guess I'm about to find out
Just finished this book. My thoughts: Definitely the slowest of the series so far but not as bad as everyone made it out to be. Guess my low expectations helped out. Really picks up at the end tho. The Brienne chapters were brutal and tough to get through Love the the new Jaime/Cersei relationship Holy shit at Cersei's plan and it later being found out The Sansa/Alayne chapters were fun. Def enjoyed them considering how much I hated them in the first book and a half. Littlefinger is back to his old self. Love it Arya chapters were good def want more faceless men tho Kinda disappointed in the Samwell POVs kinda dull Victarian is a boss and can't wait to see the him in the show
I'm sure this has been covered somewhere in this thread but I'll spout my opinions too. I think Cersei's reading her prophecy wrong. The young queen that is going to dethrone her will be Dany. And her volonqar (sp) is probably going to end up being bran or jon snow. It means little brother. Doesn't specifically have to be "her" little brother. I hope brienne really is dead. So tired of her shit. Tom O'sevens was the spy in riverrun right? Thought that was well played. Waiting for Gendry to do something purposeful and go all Baratheon on somebody. I can't wait to see what they do with robert arryn. I hate that milk fed little bitch of a boy. Would prefer he fly out the moon door but that likely wont happen. The the plot by little finger to raise up an army for the Starks via Sansa seems promising. Like where that is headed. I like victarrion and all but the iron islanders are boring, probably gonna just get bitch made in the end anyway
Just read the chapter where Arianne was promised to Vyseris. Holy crap. I've heard a few people complain about this book but so far I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not 3 but in my opinion it's better than Clash of Kings. I really don't like how they just offed Davos with a line or two. That was horseshit. He was one my favorites along with Sandor who shared the same damn fate practically. Maybe. Gendry showing up was a nice surprise altho I'm not sure where his story can go from here. I guess the orphans could be part of his pack for when Arya returns? I don't know. I really like how Sam has seen Bran and Arya yet he either didn't know or swore not to tell Jon. I think my favorite chapters of this book are of Dorne. I guess it's kind of the fact that they're new and exciting but it just seems like Doran Martell has played the game longer than anyone and is willing to do whatever it takes to get his vengeance.
Definitely the most maligned but underrated book in the series. Dorne is interesting, especially when it's revealed that they're still in league with the Targaryens. Jaime gets likable, Sansa/Alayne was cool to read about, Iron Islanders suck for the most part but Victarian might be cool. Slow read but really picks up toward the end.
I'm currently doing the reread of both AFFC and ADWD simultaneously. I look forward to the AFFC chapters more than the ADWD chapters. I think a lot of that is because I have read ADWD much more recently, but I'm really enjoying my AFFC reread.
Finished the book last night and read all 49 pages of this thread since. Was fun reading through everything from season 1 along with theories of the books in general. As far as AFFC goes, it actually wasn't that bad, it was just a chore to read through sometimes. I hate Cersei, but her chapters were really interesting since she's a psycho. Jaime's weren't as good as ASOS, but I still enjoyed them for the most part. Really missed the wall/Tyrion/Dany though. As I said in my diary thread, I didn't feel like I read this book to read it. Felt like I read it to get to book 5. I imagine when I do a re-read of the series (thinking next summer after season 3), I'll read this one much differently. On to book 5!
I'm halfway through book 5. The only character I look forward to is Jon. The rest just seem tedious and long.
jesus this book is nowhere near as good as the others. halfway through and the only chapters worth a shit are arya's, jaime, and sansa's when littlefinger is a boss. i dont care at all about the ironborn or the dornish, they both suck. cersei is a cunt, sam's a faggot and brienne is boring. all i want to know is what tyrion, varys, dany, and Jon are doing.
don't be so narrow-minded. give the new characters a shot. Spoiler because the rest will all be dead soon Spoiler not really
i, for one, appreciate how all the characters tie together. plus, cersei's chapters are vastly underrated imo
Having trouble finishing the last 150 pages or so. I have 4 chapters left. I know everyone else seems to have found that the best part of the book, but I really enjoyed the rest of it a lot more than I anticipated. The foreshadowing and deeper plot development has been pretty suspenseful.
Cersei chapters were good stuff. She's a psycho and it's fun seeing why she's a psycho Spoiler It's because she's a woman
Done with 4. Much better than 2 imo, I really liked it. Loved the set up for the last few chapters. On to 5 ahora
bit of a hyperbole but i definitely enjoyed it more. like i said previously, i liked the suspense it has set up for the rest of the series.
just finished this book, still think it is by far the worst of the series since nothing of importance really happens. Brienne sucks, the Dorne were awful chapters until the very end where they reveal the Viserys thing, Jaime doesnt actually do anything, Sam just whines and does nothing of importance until the very end of the book, iron islands suck besides victarian. Cersei chapters were interesting but i just want that bitch to die. Arya chapters were sweet but there werent nearly enough of them and the last one ends saying she's blind with no follow up. Sansa/Alayne chapters were awesome because of littlefinger, although fucking jon arryn sucks. hopefully the next one is better, though i doubt any will touch the 3rd one.
Just read this entire thread, man I need to re-read this book. Hated reading it the first time, but I feel like the book can tie up some loose ends to some theories being floated around the web. Loved ADWD for entertainment and told myself I'll go back and read it for content after I re-read AFFC. Anyone else do this? Was the reread worth it?
so it doesn't look like there's a Jon chapter in this book. Fucking sucks. Brienne chapters aren't my favorite. Hoping Samwell's chapters stay strong even though he's on his way to Oldtown and not on the wall. Cersei and Jaime chapters are usually pretty good. I'm not terribly interest in the iron island storyline either. I'm sure it will be a good book though.
Based on my experiences vs. the hype, I thought 4 was better than expected and 5 was worse than expected.
I'm actually very interested in reading the 4th and 5th together when I re-read the series. It'll be a long ass book, but I hope once the storylines tie together the 4th book won't look as bad.
Cersei loves the taste of Margaerys tears. "When I kissed her cheek, I could taste the salt of her tears."
Ok I don't know if I'm slow in realizing this but I've got a prediction. So Cersei is obsessed with the fortune telling of the witch named Maggy. Maggy predicts that a younger more beautiful queen will take Cersei's place. Cersei thinks it is Margaery but I think it's Dany.
