Maybe Arthur got tired of hearing Cam Newton saying he would get a brother guy at QB after Vick? So he went and guy that said free his homie in the biggest moment of his life. also this
All these franchises are run by clowns who have no idea what they're doing but the Falcons are the worse. Casual fans could draft better than they do.
I’m fine with taking Penix. Who the hell knows with QBs. McCarthy, Penix and Nix all seem like they will be major busts but one will probably be a ten year pro bowler. My issue is signing cousins too.
I spent all day trying to come up with the most falcons way to fuck this pick up. I could not have dreamed up taking an old qb with a long injury history so we can be in both win now and succession planning mode.
For the millionth year it's not even about the player. It's the position. You just gave a QB $100 million in FA. Then you turn around and draft his successor with the plan of him hopefully not playing for 5-6 years. (Those are their words, not mine.) The best part about drafting a QB early is their rookie deal. It's about not addressing the one glaring weakness we've had for most of a decade now for me....
It's typical falcons shit. Nothing is ever cohesive or part of a larger plan. Every individual decision is just reactionary, spur of the moment crap in a vacuum. Use 2 straight 1st rounders on TE and WR with a run focused head coach then never throw to them. Draft a RB top 10 overall then have him split time with the guy who was already on roster and off the field entirely in key situations. Make a big QB signing for $180M, tell him you're going to take a QB in the late rounds then freak out and reach for one at 8 overall.
Nice, so they had their choice of the entire defensive draft class at 8....or could have traded down, picked up a 2 or more maybe, and still had their choice of the entire defensive class at 13-16.
this x10000. The greatest advantage you can have in the nfl is to have a Pat Mahomes. The second greatest is to have a rookie Qb play well. We have elected to have neither! The hallmark of the Atlanta falcons.
Time to move on. Who do we want tonight? for me dejean ir kool aid then best available pass rusher in the third
I feel like the only person dumber than the people in charge of the Falcons is me for continuing to fall into this fucking trap year after year.
Signing Cousins just proves they operate with no plan in mind. It’s like they don’t know you can talk amongst your colleagues before the draft, and they get in the war room on draft day and just battle it out for 10 minutes to see who gets to make the pick
I really don't get it at all. You want to have a QB to develop? Fine, but you do that with pick 8 and get one of the oldest players in the draft? But you say you want to win now so you use your top pick for a QB of the future and ignore edge? Their plan makes no sense
I like how the Penix rumor was brought to this thread a couple days ago and I was like "even for this franchise there's a 0% chance that happens".
Especially when there's 10+ years of hard evidence where some internet fans randomly held fake drafts with better results year over year.... wonder where we could find it?
I know there are a lot of times where we on this board say we could do it better than paid professional executive. It’s actually the truth in this case.
Wouldn’t even need to be full time! We continue our current lives as scheduled, fly us all into flowery branch on Tuesday before the draft. We all drink, maybe talk shit to other franchises. “Hey is this Brett Veach? I’ll give you 4 7s and a free driving class to Andy Reid’s son for Pat Mahomes.” And then draft a better team Th-Sat
I kind of woke up feeling the same way kind of. Maybe don’t LOVE, but I’m ok with it. my only problem is it doesn’t help this year, but if we think the team is good enough to win now, fuck it, I get the strategy.
My biggest problem with it is I dont think Penix will be a good NFL starter. We're only getting 2-3 years out of Cousins imo, so if he really is the guy of the future then whatever. I just dont think he is
If you told me the Terry went rogue against whoever Blank and McKay wanted I could totally be talked into liking the pick. Here I am walking right back into that trap.
Officially entered the "I cannot stop laughing" phase. Gave a QB $100 million in FA then turned around and drafted one at 8 with so many glaring holes in the roster. holy shit that's what's going to put us over the top. Bitch the roster was ready to compete now, just needed a couple pieces.
the spin this morning is hilarious. "everyone else wanted Penix!" Well yeah those other teams needed a QB
Made me feel like they were even dumber. So you're saying people were calling you to come up and get him? You didn't take it?
Even exceeded the 2002-2004 Lions and the 2007-2009 Raiders. A group you really want to be associated with
idk that I agree there are so many holes on the roster? There’s one hole. Pass rusher. We have really good players at basically every other position
Yeah, I watched most of their games. He's average in the intermediate game, which is where you make a living in the NFL and he struggles under pressure. Add in his injury issues and idk man. He does throw a beautiful deep ball tho
Dukes on 92.9 has been saying they love Penix and dont be surprised when he's the pick at 8 and he's been getting killed for it for weeks now. Everyone hated the idea then it actually happened
I'm not in Atlanta anymore but almost certainly. All the 92.9 guys on Twitter's replies were nothing but pissed off fans. I saw a stat last night that after his first read his accuracy drops quite a bit. Unless we were somehow gonna draft Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels I think Penix is still pretty good. Biggest problem though is he's almost 24 (as in I think he turns 24 in a couple weeks) and then there's the ACL and shoulder history. If he's healthy we know he's accurate on deep throws, but fuck is it so dumb to spend an 8 on him after signing Cousins to a huge deal.
It’s fine boys, we’ll just tank in 3 years and draft Dylan Raiola with the first pick. Or more then likely the 8th pick. ITS ALL GOOD
Unless Kirk gets hurt we have a 100% chance of winning 7-9 games a year for the next 3 Years. No more or less. Unfortunately that probably gets us a few division titles and first round exits and picks in the 20s
It doesn’t matter if we pick 1 or 32, we will fuck it up. So picking 8 or 22 is really the same shit and we would end up picking the same player at 8 that we could get at 22.
