#1 (2 years) gets 2 episodes of bluey, then listens to Luna on hey bear to fall asleep and I flip on the white noise from her Nanit before I leave the room Still have to hold her most nights to get her down tho Link if you want it:
He has no idea if he wants to go big or small yet so we have quite a list. Kentucky, Tennessee, Appalachian State, UNC, Coastal Carolina, South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia and Alabama We’ve gone through USC, UCLA, Miami and Arizona State already but these are the first I think he’s looking at for the right reasons.
He refuses to look at anywhere someone he knows went. My wife’s whole family went to KSU and KU are no go for him.
Also if he honestly got into Southern Cal then goodnight your moneys unless he gets a full ride or some athletic scholarship. Even a partial is still going to leave a fat bill.
We’re working off a 31 right now but his tutor thinks he can get a 33. It won’t be enough to get full ride and we won’t qualify for anything need based so it’s gonna suck no matter what.
I'm assuming you're referring to his ACT score? Guessing he'd probably get more money for an academic scholarship at a school that isn't usually as well renown for being extremely competitive academically, like you mentioned App State and Costal Carolina. I went to Georgia Southern and wasn't in the top tier of the Honors Program but came close which would have basically covered all remaining expenses after the HOPE scholarship. I wouldn't have come close even at UGA to getting something like that.
That's a pretty diverse set of schools. I couldn't justify going out of state 20 years ago. Has that delta narrowed to where that's not a huge deal?
It’s closer it seems but still a gap for sure. He won’t go in state and to be honest he needs to get away to grow up a bit too. If he goes to somewhere in Arizona or Florida I can probably get in state by swinging our primary residence location but that probably wouldn’t go in until year 2.
If you're looking in AZ, don't sleep on UA. Tucson isn't as brutally hot as Phoenix, and I loved it there. Not sure about NAU's academic reputation, but I bet Flagstaff would be a cool spot to go to school. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but if he's feeling those CA vibes, the Cal State schools are solid with a lot of cool campus locations (SD, Long Beach, Channel Islands, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, Bay Area, Sonoma, Humboldt), and I'd think they'd be wayyy more affordable than SC or UCLA, especially coming from out of state.
I think ASU has always been his dream school but we are going to take another trip out there and hit Arizona and NAU. We have a place in Scottsdale and my middle brother lives there too and my aunt and uncle are in Pradise Valley so I feel just a little more comfortable since he has so much family close if shit goes sideways which with him it probably will.
For the Honors program we got something like $1000 every year, and then I got a few more random ones that were less than that. Hope obviously only covered tuition with a small book stipend, but at the end of it I only had a little above ten grand in student loan debt.
One tip I picked up in kindergarten at least for our school is kindergartners get last dibs for after school care. We missed round up due to moving but another parent told us when round up started everyone b-lined it for the after school care sign up table and it of course hit capacity.
Our 4 year old still isn’t a consistent eater but it’s still an improvement over a year ago. We still try find ways to positively encourage him though. He loves power rangers more than anything so we try to tell him he can be big and strong like one. so tonight I had the idea to get a cameo from a power ranger. Might be my best dad idea yet.
Cameos are awesome. Only downside is trying explain to him why Blippi etc isn’t going to come hang out at our house if he cared enough to send a happy birthday video
Kid: Dad. Let’s plant a bunch of corn in the backyard, yay!!! And when it’s ready, we’ll put it on a cob and eat it!!! Y’all have any idea how the fuck to put corn on a cob?
My 5 year old has slept on a firm 6" latex mattress since he was out of the crib. That's about to go to my daughter. Any recs on a bed for that age? I was thinking a hybrid might be better than memory foam (think I read that little bodies do better with something more firm), but open to anything
I just got whatever basic firm mattress they had at the furniture store when we upgraded both kids from their toddler beds to big kid beds. I don’t think it was necessary personally to have anything softer or more expensive until they’re teenagers probably. my kids also think it’s awesome to sleep on hotel pull out beds so I tried not to overthink their mattress.
My two year old sleeps on a queen size memory foam, lol. Don’t mind the heart rate, sock is on the newborn
First overnight away from our toddler together. No baby gates during the morning coffee routine has me considering a DIY vasectomy it's so nice. But also miss my dude. Hate to admit it, but Mom is probably handling it better......pretty good chance I bail on work early and go get him from her parents.
Ugh, had 2 max capacity shit diapers back to back last night with the 1 yr old. 145 then right as I crawled back into bed at 220. Took me until 3 to get back to sleep. Then mom calls as I'm already at work saying the toddler wont leave his bed because I’m not home to get him out of bed. Cue up a 10 minute FaceTime session to get him going on the day.
Dune 2 matinee-->tennis with my wife--->dinner and drinks at a bar watching the Tide hoops. Went home and straight to bed. No dishes. No baths. No bedtimes. It was fucking amazing.
I think next year we finally might have our first night away from our daughter, one of us has always been with her for almost seven years. Hoping soon we're good enough friends with some of the parents of the friends she's making to do sleepovers.
I guess we went off the deep end. We didn’t do just one night we went for 6 nights. It felt good, do recommend.
Well shit im solo parenting from this past Friday to Thursday and I wanted that award but it’s ONLY 2 kids. not splitting morning drop off (one is in daycare the other 1st grade) succcccckkkss
I can't wait for a solo vacation with my wife next year. First time in 4 years. We've been doing solo trips individually to get some true non-parental relaxation
