y'all came in with a big offer late and it doesn't sound like we were willing to play ball. Allegedly we have an NIL structure where we try to pay the proven guys more than HS kids. Couldn't give Raiola the same or more than we are giving Beck to come back. Good luck to him, better y'all than Ohio state.
Imagine acting a fool when you pull your information off message boards and forums. Fuck me, same team, same fucking team.
I’d rather have 1 year of McCord than 1 year of Raiola - that’s all you’re guaranteed with HS QBs at this point. I like Rhule but he gave Jeff Sims the job this year and didn’t think twice about it. His handling of the QB situation in Carolina was a dumpster fire too.
The same people that were getting upset at me for not being happy with this staff getting commits from no star and 2 star kids, are now getting upset with the staff for getting the highest rated 5* in program history. What a world. McCord is mid, there’s a reason why no other big schools are going after him and that he’ll probably land at Syracuse.
McCord was mid with Marvin Harrison Jr and an offense that was 3 deep better than every team they played But if he comes here and throws to walk on Johnny Studebaker from Seward he's supposed to be great
This is it. The talent and potential difference is undeniable. I'd just rather have an experienced, steady hand who can handle the pressure here next year. I know, 6 years, no bowl, but there's a fair amount to lose here with what we've accomplished in building this team that's not reflected in the record, and handing the reins of the program over to an uncontested 17 year old with a helicopter dad just does not make sense right now. Especially for such a "culture guy" like Rhule.
I never thought McCord would be great. Just, a Honda is a major upgrade from a busted pinto on blocks in your front yard. Raiola is a Lamborghini which, sick, but a lot more maintenance and if things go wrong it’s a lot bigger problem. Both are upgrades so I’m not bitching. Hope they can keep Kaelin though. We need insurance in this class.
We sorta had this sensible plan of bringing in a steady hand for a year, filling in the scholly distribution chart with a guy like Leavitt, Kaelin, and having a good line on that good lookin Iowa kid for '25. Building an actual depth chart. With DR, we sacrificed all that, got the Lamborghini, and beneath that, a cavernous void that'll take another couple years to fill. We've got a lot of excitement, but are still one injury or temper tantrum away from converting another TE to QB.
Is this certain? I’ve seen Twitter accounts that I know Jack and shit about report there’s still potential to keep him. Hard to find anything from anyone legit.
I'll also take Casey Thompson as an insurance plan/mentor with the intent to get into coaching. That's insane but it's actually a great option for Y1 with a guy like Raiola. I really really would like to keep Kaelin though. I worry about DR bouncing the first time there's an issue.
Yep, we're a historically flaky 17 year old's whim away from the exact same QB situation we were in last year. That's the beginning and end of my gripe, but it's a big and undeniable one. The goal for QB recruiting this cycle wasn't just to get a great qb, it was to try to mitigate years of qb recruiting malpractice by Farts. Seemed like we were working to that end. Amazing if we can get Raiola as part of that effort, but seems like we're getting Raiola *instead* of that effort
I mean Casey tore his ACL in like game 3 but he might have won us the first two But I get the counterfactual you're after and tend to agree
If we were going to be happy w one quarterback this year (Kaelin), I'm going to be happy if our one quarterback is a 5* legacy talent. All the talk about fans squawking for the backup if the starter messed up is valid. And if it was McCord or Chubb next year, the squawks would come up for Kaelin too, and he's objectively not as good as Raiola. And I know from my trapper keepers in grade school that Lambos make you way cooler and other people wanna be around em.
The plan has always been to get one HS and one transfer. We upgraded on the HS recruit side. The transfer initially was better than expectations with McCord and now lower than expectations with Thompson. Maybe it’s a net wash with everything combined, and if we can find one other QB still come out net positive?
Yeah problem is DR is a huge flake and flight risk. Our QB situation is unique. If DR left, which is a sizable risk, we have no serviceable qb on the roster from '24, '23, '22 or really ever. If we somehow manage to keep Kaelin, I'm a big "nevermind, gbr" on all this. But if the plan is DR and CT, that's still a real unstable situation.
He was part of our former, and very inept, HC’s staff. The recruits really seemed to like him but since our head guy was such a terrible closer it’s hard to assess how good of a recruiter he was. Did get the sense that he wasn’t much of an X and Os guy, outside of maybe playing Madden. Kind of surprised he’s on a legit staff. Then again, m generally skeptical of anyone who took a job under Ash after that first year.
Heard he was ready to commit and you guys said no thanks after meeting his dad. Apparently the dude is a grade A asshole and is asking for waaay more in NIL than his son has been offered so far. Sounds like he may end up at Syracuse or possibly Pitt.
The asshole dad factor is a push b/w DR and McCord, and either would fit well in our long tradition of asshole QB dads. Of which Casey Thompson's dad is already a proud member.
Frost to Iowa would be amazing. He could be as chuddy and inept as he likes and still keep his job. would also be fun to see if he can run a worse offense than the last guy. Not sure it’s even possible, but if anyone is going to find a way, it’s Scoot.
If the guy was able to infect Iowa's offense with Husk Dick for Brains™ wrt turnovers and penalties I would absolutely adore him and it would almost make up for pissing on the ashes of a once proud program.
He was with Rhule at Temple and Baylor, I think with Rutgers in between. Not sure his role at RU, but he’s not an assistant or anything here he’s the “director of player personnel” or something of that nature.
Sounds about right. But at some point, he’s going to get too old for the Steve Buscemi “ how do you do, fellow kids” bit.
MSU just picked up a portal QB who was with their new head coach at OSU and has 3 years of eligibility left. Wonder if that will have an impact on Kaelin.
I was about to post "count on it" but lol there's just no way. I can't wait to stuff their dumb white TE Doug Vandertard on a jet sweep
Ratt determined AF to reach deez keedz. I love him for it but think he might be driving himself insane.
What is the deal with this Demas feller and why is he bad news and also how many vape shops is he going to burgle o/u 2?
From Steve Marik: Played in 14 total games during the 2020 and 2021 seasons at Texas A&M. After redshirting in 2020, he played in 10 games in 2021 and caught 15 passes for 235 yards and one touchdown. >> Demas’ time at Texas A&M came to an end in March 2022 after he was arrested on a charge of assault family violence. He's had quite a bit of legal trouble and didn't play football at all in 2022. He was sentenced to five years of probation with deferred adjudication. >> The 2022 season was the second football season Demas missed. He didn’t play his senior year at Tomball (Texas) in 2019 because of UIL transfer rules. Prior to that, he had played at Houston North Forest. As a junior, he caught 50 passes for 1,574 yards and 23 touchdowns. >> After dealing with his legal troubles and not playing football in 2022, Demas landed at Garden City (Kan.) Community College for the 2023 season. In eight games, he caught 29 passes for 329 yards and one touchdown in his lone season with Garden City.
Wild how the least successful (men’s) Athletic Department manages to be the “best in the country” at so many things except winning.
