Here is the thing that makes this accurate to our current situation but also moot. we don’t have a serviceable qb NOW if he leaves. what the portal takes it giveth, potentially. You are never as far away from getting a good qb as the past and you are never less entrenched ,when you have one, compared to the past.
Dean O’Hoolahan update: “I just caught up with Garden City (Kan.) C.C. and Texas A&M former five-star wide receiver Demond Demas. He confirmed that he would visit Nebraska this weekend on an official visit. He's kept in contact with both Garret McGuire and Evan Cooper. Another interesting nugget is he's been in contact with quarterback Dylan Raiola this week, who has reached out to him and the two have been communicating. Full update coming.”
College football is/has changed. Build as much fucking depth you can and do that via a coach that wants players to stay around as much as possible. The lack of guys leaving so far this offseason is SUPER ENCOURAGING on that part. The players seem to like playing football here!! Also, you have teams like Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, etc. losing top-level guys now. Even those teams are having to use the portal to their advantage because guys are choosing to leave. If you have a really good starter, the chances you see a guy leave behind him are exponentially higher now. In fact it’s - a lot in Vegas it will happen. Our coaching staff seems to understand this to a point and are also learning to a point. Sims was a mistake, absolutely. But, and as bad as it was, we were COMPLETELY fucked if the staff also didn’t convince Haarberg not to transfer if Chubba was still hurt (or got hurt). It’s going to get uncomfortable at times in this era, but you much rather be a school with money, a staff that is willing to go after guys, and not afraid to take chances with a culture. that hasn’t changed, that’s the same as the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 00’s, 01’s you still want the advantages, you just need people smart enough to adapt to them.
I really like Rhule for these reasons. He’s modern in approach and accepts all of the above rather than crying about it like, say, Dabo
We are hearing there is a possibility we hire Scott Frost as OC, are you guys hearing anything over there in husker land? Would he succeed in such a roll or be a flop. I don’t know if Kirk would let him run “His offense”.
I really don't think Frost's pride would let him be an assistant but who knows. I'll bet there's been some real dark night of the soul shit going on in that Phoenix mcmansion.
I l Frost was a major failure here because his ego and lack of oversight. I suspect he’s been humbled after taking some time away and if Kirk can keep Frost from acting like a college student, it could turn out okay. With that said Frosts offense never evolved while he was here, and he made some very dumb player personal moves. Based on Iowa’s present offense, Kirk doesn’t seem much better at this.
Frost likes to drink a lot and not recruit and just do offense things. Reasonably decent at offense things and everything else nah
What if I told you you could lead the country in turnovers and actively try to give games away at the worst possible times
I have on pretty good authority that he has in fact NOT been humbled and is in fact as egotistical as ever. He truly believes it’s everybody’s else fault with the way things went. This is coming from a buddy that has some ins and was behind him for as long as he possible could. So not a ‘Frost hater’ early on.
I honestly don’t want him at Iowa. I know it’s a funny joke but I don’t want to have to even entertain all the crap that will go with it. I just want that door closed and never to be opened again.
I’m sure he isn’t either, but even thinking about the circus of shit that would drag up is just nausea inducing.
Was talking to a guy at work about the QB stuff and I said imagine being Kaelin. He committed to Mizzou, then decides to jump on board here…since then Mizzou becomes a Top10-15 team with an awesome offense and Nebraska wins 5 games with an all time bad offense. Then tack on the stuff that has happened this week.
THEE reason Iowa manages to not lose 9 games per year is because they do nothing on offense including giving the ball away. Frost would improve their ypg, but that team would start losing a lot more games.
Hi guys, controversial opinion but maybe 6’1” QBs from Bellevue aren’t cornerstones of recruiting for Nebraska or other programs.
I wouldn’t blame him for bailing on Nebraska but it might end up being his best option this late in the game. Figure he wasn’t going to play next year anyways, so just come get your scholarship/NIL honored and see what happens. If Raiola is good and/or doesn’t leave, Kaelin can enter the portal with practice film and maybe find a better fit than he can this week. If Raiola sucks/bails then maybe it’s worth sticking around.
