Yeah, that was an anomaly due to Crist being terrible & Desantis riding the post-covid tough guy wave
I think I’m leaving Jax next year. It’s a decent city but it’s tough making new friends at my age. Was going to try Jax Fray but last time I tried playing competitive sports I tore my Achilles and rather not repeat that.
I get wanting to move closer to family & existing friends, but making friends as an adult being difficult in a new city isn’t a Jax thing… it’s just reality everywhere
Yes, my son is basically the 4 year old mayor of our neighborhood. He will strike up a conversation with literally anyone. I feel like he knows our entire corner of Jax Beach.
I’m 35 and have lived in multiple cities, can confirm that making friends is hard everywhere. My only friends in town that aren’t through my wife are people I used to work with. And I see them less and less now that Im self employed.
trying to get out and do more but Covid really hampered making friends early on. Been to a few bday parties from neighborhood kids and daycare and that’s helped. I had some work friends but man Covid also kinda killed those as we went to work from home and some people’s true ideologies came out
So it’s settled, we’ll start a TMB Jax fantasy league this year so we can all stop being so anti social
Yea idk to blame it on Covid or kids or just getting old for us but we're definitely more home bodies than we used to be. We just always have stuff going on with her so when we get a down day with nothing to do it's nice to just chill. We don't go out a ton now so when we do it's normally going to be with friends we don't see as much as we used to, not a new random friend I met. And we're not just spontaneously available like we used to be. 10 years ago someone could message me at 4:30pm and we'd be at a bar by 5pm. Now I need to plan a week ahead.
I spend half my year in Jax beach. ok not half but like a third... and you all live in St John's county...
I live in Mandarin and semi-reside in Julington Creek, which is only barely St Johns. Spoiler I'm moving to JC full-time next month...but only for a year until my partner's kid finishes school and then we're looking at San Marco/Riverside or NB
I would move back and buy something in Neptune/Atlantic right now. Wife ain't moving back to Florida but we are down there once a month minimum.
I’ve met jorts and killerB. Played video games with fusion. I probably drive past boo and dbl all the time.
I'll host adraft p standoffish - not really unfriendly man - fact fears change - idk I don't think that applies to you now sometimes talks sports - i'd say very very very rarely these days
San Marco is great but it does flood super easily. Avondale is nicer but pricier. Riverside is also pretty pricey but less prone to flooding. Murray Hill is still pretty street by street
We could pretty easily do a Jax meet up... Depending numbers/interest, could just pick a bar/brewery a monthly-ish & alternate between Duval/St. Johns
Fun story: I lived in and around San Marco/Lakewood until I was 12, when my family moved to northside. I dated a girl that lived close to Dupont middle when I was a 17/18 and was driving to her house one weekend during a downpour. There's a roundabout now but there used to be a light on San Marco/Landon. I'd driven that area a million times and knew damn well how badly it floods. So I sat at that light, while it was already flooding, and watched a semi go through in front of me and thought I could do the same in my Honda Accord. About 30 seconds after, the waves the semi had made rippled back in, and instantly flooded my car. It cost a young Fusion a lot of money to fix that car(the ECU was located under the passenger seat and completely fried). We'd probably look slightly further south, closer to Hendricks.
I work in riverside, don’t mind the drive but is nuked any recreational trips over this way. I do my best to stay at the beach as much as possible on weekends.
Drainage on Challen & Park is pretty terrible. It gets standing water during any heavy storm... so many homeowners parked cars have been totaled, until the city recently made improvements. I could have made a small fortune pulling cars out with my Jeep
