not sure how many of y'all are bg Deer Tick fans, but here's video they posted today of a Neil Young cover http://player.vimeo.com/video/35784882?title=0&byline=0&
nah they're not but they definitely have a lot of southern rock in them and could easily fit in the alt country genre. i think the lead singer sounds a lot like Hank III
Yeah, that's a pretty accurate comparison. I like this song by them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0kx_h3lrWo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYg5p9sqi98 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bK1GUVzVxOM&feature=related Definitely not country, but they're still amazing. And real fun to party with.
Seems like Mega Upload getting busted has wrecked Seddemusica. Not many links work on there now. Shame.
Site drove me crazy when I first found it. Went through picking out like 20 albums and maybe half of them worked. Went there last week and picked 2 more, neither worked so I just left. Think I'm just going to start buying albums without having heard them first. I always feel bad when I dl one of these guys's albums and decide not to buy it anyway.
Yeah that website was always really hit and miss so I sort of gave up on it New Josh Abbott single http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMm6v4pTZF0
Told my boss I have to take off the weekend of April 1st for a "wedding." Just bought tickets to the Lonestar Music Awards in San Marcos..
Anyone happen to have Brandon Rhyder's Conviction album on their computer they'd like to email? I've been looking for a download of it but can't find one
Top 5 albums for me: 1) Three Days- Pat 2) Live at Billy Bobs- Randy 3) No. 2 Live Dinner- REK 4) Mescalito- Bingham 5) Mountains of Nuevo Leon- Paul Eason Sub Binghams Live in Paris with Mescalito if you're counting albums that weren't produced
don't get a whole lot in Atlanta. been talking with one of my buddies about sometime taking a long road trip through Texas for a few weeks and seeing all these bands since they usually only make one SE tour and not all of these bands even do that.
not sure about Athens but Atlanta gets most of the bigger guys. Generally the cities those guys will go to in the SE includes Birmingham, Charlotte, Columbia, Atlanta, Knoxville (some), Baton Rouge/Nola, Memphis, Nashville, and Little Rock. Some of those guys will stop in smaller college towns every once in awhile but not as often. Just keep tabs at the music venues and Athens and the tour schedules of your favorite bands, that's pretty much what I do and then just mark them on my calendar when a date is announced.
Lotta good shows coming up in Houston since its Rodeo time. Bleu Edmonson, Susan Gibson both on Friday Vallejo, Susan Gibson, Doug Moreland Saturday Brandon Rhyder, Wednseday 2/22 Johnny Falstaff 2/22 Bruce and Charlie Robison 2/23 James McMurtry 2/24 Max Stalling 2/25 Those are just the public shows. Randy Rogers and Reckless Kelly are always out at the rodeo cookoff playing private parties. It's a great event if you're into this sort of thing. http://www.rodeohouston.com/concerts/hideout/2012HideOutCalendar_web.pdf
you've never heard of Charlie Robison or Brandon Rhyder? Charlie Robison is one of the all time greats, you're missing out. Not to mention the obvious Reckless Kelly and Randy Rogers who are as famous as it gets on the Texas Country scene outside guys like Pat Green and REK
Oh shit, didn't see RK and RRB at the bottom. Have Definetly heard them though. Havent heard Robinson though
That is unfortunate. Spoiler http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53295iYXaOk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_SakvKz3bM&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSabfW2fiVY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg1pYtoWL6c http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXOxPMX9WBg
That's like knowing who Kobe is and not knowing who Jordan is. Listen to him, you'll thoroughly enjoy it
Also, the new JAB sounds like the perfect panty droppin song to replace Taste http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGIyesmmdNo ^^ Pretty decent song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuVloMS94J8&feature=relmfu Old I know, but still listen to it everytime it pops up on my ipod
Rock Springs to Cheyenne has been popping up on my Pandora for a while but I keep forgetting about it for some reason. While I was listening to that this popped up on the side: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jVw1zwRAYU&feature=related Not much red dirt but she is pretty damn good looking
Saw Micky and the Motorcars last night. They put on a damn good show but I doubt they ever come back to Stillwater, there were all of 50 or so people there
Part of the Calf Fry lineup for this year was released for the end of April: Thursday: Kevin Fowler, Eli Young Band Friday: Corey Smith, Randy Rogers Band Saturday: Wade Bowen, Gary Allan And they're releasing the rest of the artists in time. So glad I bought my 3 day pass for $30 a month ago
What are some of y'alls favorite Pandora stations? I know we all like Texas country, but I'd guess people would like hearing what Pandora stations come with which artists, besides the obvious artist in the title. Lately I've been jamming these: Kyle Bennett Band: Incorporates more Randy Rogers than I'd like, but not bad when you're in the mood for some Bennett since I'm pretty sure its only a loop of 10 KBB songs with RRB, a little Wade Bowen, Brandon Rhyder and Whiskey Myers mixed in. I'm kind of burned out on RRB, but I know many are not, that's my only issue with the station. Ryan Bingham: Great station. Ray Wylie, Steve Earle, Chris Knight, Reckless, a little old Ragweed, etc. get brought in. I also get some Lucero which doesn't qualify as Texas/Red Dirt Country, but I enjoy it. Good stuff, IMO. Casey Donahew: Pretty decent station, but too much Eli Young for my taste. Good for a little up beat country though. Other than that its got your regular Texas country staples, RRB, EYB, Wade Bowen, etc. Jason Boland: I'm a huge Boland fan, was in high school when I went to one of his shows only to find out he'd checked into rehab the day before. Dude is a mess, but I fucking love his music. On his station I catch some CCR, Chris Knight, RK, Wade Bowen, Rhyder, REK and there's some "Undone" tribute to REK that gets played every couple songs of lots of Texas country guys playing REK songs. I like it a lot. When I'm not in mood for just a country mix I'll play the Drive-by Truckers station. It has a bunch of "southern-indie-rock" or whatever type bands, which I like, but it will also pull up some Steve Earle, Bingham and Chris Knight. *Note: Pandora could just be playing my ass and mixing similar music, but I have no idea how Pandora works, so don't troll me if this is all just a result of me liking the same kinds of bands.
Always thought this was how it worked, but I have no clue either. Only time I change it off Ryan Bingham's station is to switch to Willie Nelson. Bingham's also has REK on it. I know this won't be popular but I don't like when Lucero comes on. I always want to like it and try and listen to it but every single time I end up annoyed and next it.
Saw Reckless Kelly last night for the first time. Sounded great, but thought they didn't play that long, could be because their weren't that many people. I keep forgetting I'm not in Austin anymore when I go to these concerts. Also, people should check out Josh Grider for live performances. Studio albums don't do his live shows justice.
Saw Cody Johnson and Kyle Park this weekend. I really liked them both before the show, and maybe even more now. Both guys were great live, and they played a lot of their songs together, you could tell they were just having a good time and really worked the crowd. Reckless Kelly and Granger Smith are both scheduled to be here early in April
Turnpike troubadours is my favorite pandora station And then the Chris knight station along with Bingham station can't be beat. Having been using spotify lately though
pissed off btw that seddemusica is using a hosting site where you download usic from a program that isn't mac compatible. no more piracy for me for smaller up and coming texas bands oh and here are some new jams I've downloaded in the last few weeks: Mockingbird Sun http://soundcloud.com/mockingbirdsun/that-girl-tonight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPNa3__p7ro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iigjlSJ17KM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDob-dCDBCA Jon Brewer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ-_Wsqz9_4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvBtgwOa68E The Damn Quails http://soundcloud.com/austinberkovsky/damn-quails-fools-gold-revised http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sdCATStGjY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlMthPAcraw Cody Johnson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwyL3XgUrW4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7c_4FdnTG9o
Saw Casey Donahew Band this weekend in Oxford, put on a great show. Enjoyed their opener as well, Matt Stell and the Crashers.
yeah seen them a coupe times. They put on a good show. They used to tour with Emory Quinn, who put a on a great show as well. It's a shame CDB concerts in the SE are so sparsely attended for the most part, although I wouldn't doubt there was a good showing in oxford if they played at the Library
