hmm, one of the sites i was directed to a couple weeks ago was sending me to some other file sharing site i'd never heard of that was trying to get me to download some of their own file sharing software that wasn't supported by macs. i'll check it out later this week and see if they've corrected that.
good to hear. I've seen them in Knoxville and Atlanta and both shows had maybe 150 people there. Same with Cross Canadian Ragweed, whoch was actually pretty surprising to me. Only show I've been to with bands like this that was packed was the few times I've seen Bingham and REK
been on a huge dirty guv'nahs kick lately http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFj9IhoObCg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ8vTGMUvYo
The Guv'nahs are great. Had the pleasure of seeing them from their very beginning. They're guys my age who went to UT with me. A couple of them were Sigma Chis and real big into the Cross on campus.
For those that are going to be around the Dallas area for St. Patty's day: http://microapp.dallasobserver.com/stpatricksday/2012/ Bingham, Whiskey Myers, Jonathan Tyler and some other bands I haven't heard of, playing off greenville for $15 in advance, $20 at the gate.
Not red dirt, and I really hate almost all Jason Aldean songs, but this song is awesome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkEvLjj_rqc
Nope, but that's just personal opinion really. I'm sure alot of people think it's great. Just seems to be hitting on all the cliches to me. I'll take this any day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR0ViHkF37I&feature=related
Charlie and Bruce Robison at Mucky Duck in Houston Thursday and Friday night.. Cant wait for this.. Never seen the 2 brothers play together
Pretty strange video from JAB: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cw_xY3LI4Yw&ob=av2n Any other good songs/albums out recently?
I like the song, but that JAB video is weird This is on the latest Bo Phillips Band CD, pretty good album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU9Di5y_Mi4
Turnpike Troubadours has a new album coming out in a few weeks. This is their single off it, but I saw them a few weeks ago and they played some other stuff off it that sounded pretty good as well (as good a video as I could find) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xmbYan_2ZA
Granger Smith playin in Stillwater tonight. Really excited because I've never seen him live and he doesn't come to Oklahoma much. A little disappointed however because tonight is the Red Dirt Gypsy Fest and something like 30 big names that have come from the area are playing at different bars. Stoney is playing at one. Cody Canada played at one last time but he's not tonight.
lsufball19 has rob baird released a second album or is he planning on it? Still listen to his first, hasn't gotten old.
You guys need to check out Logan Mize! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udK0ibuTTxU&feature=fvwrel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvLa5c11dIo&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cUhT4R0pd8&feature=related
Talked to Chris Knight the other night in Columbia. Said his new album should be coming out at the end August. The other guy that played acoustic with him left to play for Joe Nichols. He had some 14 year old girl open for him who was badass. She sang Folsom Prison and some original stuff that was really good... Can't remember her name though.
Josh Abbott Band's new CD Small Town Family Dream came out today. Something like $8 on itunes. I listened to it once through while I worked out and really liked it. Some of the stuff on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwFEEJm3a0U http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNzmCIoZ2G4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tOC0Wuy0hI Also has Touch and My Texas. Can't find videos of some of the others but there are several good ones
Went on a good stretch recently. Saw Reckless Kelly in Feb, and Eli Young and Randy Rogers the past two weeks. REK is gonna be here in a couple weeks. I'm glad more and more people are coming out here. Just wish Ryan Bingham would, still never seen him live.
i missed a concert in memphis that had stoney larue, reckless kelly, and randy rogers in the same show. never seen any of those and i was very pissed about it, still am. seen REK over 5 times now, he just isn't the same anymore. seems like he just goes out there and plays and doesn't have fun with. i've been fortunate enough to see bingham three times. but reckless kelly is my unicorn. they're one of my favorites but every time they play where i am, something comes up.
I'm the exact opposite of you. I've seen Reckless at least 5 times, in Dallas and in Austin, plus they played at our fraternity house a few years back. I finally got to see Bingham at the St. Patricks day concert in Dallas, but something has always come up when he plays, it was finals week once, then it was the LSAT, then he played Billy Bobs in Ft. Worth the night we graduated in Austin, etc. Agree with you an REK, last time I saw him he just went through the motions and was irritated by the crowd getting rowdy and shit. He probably needs to take some time off from the road, it has to have taken its toll be now. Jerry Jeff was the same, but it's kind of understandable I guess since he's sober now and it was just a bunch of drunk college kids.
I think the problem with REK is he quit drinking, seriously. The first few times I saw him he was obviously drunk or at least buzzed, but I'm pretty sure I heard he quit drinking completely. Being in the southeast, we on't get the Texas artists very much, but I have seen CCR, REK lie 5 times, Jason Boland, Rya Bingham 3 times, Pat Green several times, JAB, Casey Donahew, and Chris Knight. I think that's a pretty good roundup all theings considered. Me and a buddy of mine have an open ended trip we've always talked about to go to Texas for a couple weeks and go see all the bands that never venture east of the river.
tjosu bRamonceTaylor how do yall like the new JAB record? A few good songs, not enough summer/drinking songs for me though. Hotty Toddy and Matagorda Bay seem like the only really drinking songs?
I agree it's not exactly a summer type album, but I love it and have been listening to it like crazy. Really like Hotty Toddy, Small Town Family Dream, Idalou, and Dallas Love
I just bought it the other day and have only listened to it all the way through once, its full on finals mode, so it'll be a while before I get through it again. I thought it was alright, Hotty Toddy really pissed me off though, same with the minute long FFA song. My issue with JAB is that he writes some really catchy stuff, but his lyrics can sometimes sound like an elementary school poem, kinda predictable and shit. I like Hell's Gates on Fire, Rain Finally Coming Down, Matagorda Bay. Touch and My Texas are good too, but they've kinda already been played out. Fun fact: When he played at our house and told us that was the first time he ever played My Texas. Probably a lie, but chay story bro. Well ours was just for Round up, not for opening our own gat damn BASKETBALL GYM!!! Yes, I'm jealous.
Honestly I liked the outdoor area better for partying. But it was pretty sweet for playing lazy basketball, we got some awesome indoor goals.
finals week got 2 finals next week and i'm done with undergrad, got accepted into smu for grad school and am currently weighing some options And I agree, some of his lyrics are so cheesy and some are just fun. wish he wouldn't take himself so seriously next time
