sounds like it… not listening to instructions and removing breakers to shut off coms. Sad to hear people in that mental space.
Had to book Boeing for a work trip and am having severe regrets. Thinking about wrecking my Friday night by getting in super late to avoid it
two passenger aircraft from pilot error, one cargo flight from pilot error, and the Southwest flight where the engine punctured the fuselage and sucked out a woman
tbf she was only partially sucked out, the actual cause of death was blunt force trauma from her upper body being rag dolled against the plane.
John Oliver's show on Boeing details a current vulnerability in the anti-icing system for the engines. If it runs for >5 minutes in dry air, the engine housing can shatter, leading to a variety of bad things happening. One pilot said he keeps a post-it note on the control panel to remind him of this little problem.
I always read this thread on a plane Got diverted due to an oil gauge issue Bought a muffuletta with my voucher and unexpected stop in Nola for a couple hours
Boeing said it was saddened to hear of Mr Barnett's passing. The Charleston County coroner confirmed his death to the BBC on Monday.
I am curious how many times I could get away with going to Home Depot and buying a couple extra bolts to put in my carry on. Once seated and while taxing to the runway, drop one of the large bolts on the floor loudly. Then pick it up and tap the person sitting in front of me on the shoulder and ask them “did this bolt just fall out of the wall next to your seat?” I have to think after a few times I would be put on some sort of list.
It’s a spin off of a joke carnies used to play on people who rode the slingshot. You drop a bolt and ask if someone saw it fall out of the seat, right before they would push the button to shoot them straight up.
there are serious federal crimes that can result from disturbances on planes and threats to aircraft personnel. you can also throw off the balance of the plane -- and literally cause it to crash -- if passengers panic and all shift to one end or one side of the plane*. *i don't know the threshold here and would imagine larger jets could withstand the movements but smaller airline definitely have crashed for this reason so you could get away with this joke up until the other passengers react
I don't know THF, but I'm beginning to think some of you are a lot more serious about this potentially happening than he is.
If you think about it it was stupid to have a big crash the plane button that anyone can accidently hit.
The article explicitly states that it does “The switch has a cover and isn’t supposed to be used when a pilot is in the seat.”
Can't believe its been 10 years since the MH370 disappeared. Pretty good summary of what some think happened.
That is it, but it gives a bit more detail around where it was and what the pilot was doing during the time he took control.
