I’ve been in Denver for 2 years now. Went on a hike out by Silverthorne in May…. Maybe 10% of the hike wasn’t covered in snow drifts. It sucked, but those views.
Sniktau in winter isn't a problem if you take the beaten path from the top of Loveland Pass to the ridgeline, and stay on the ridgeline up to the top of Sniktau. Weather forecast is critical, would be very easy to get lost in a whiteout up there with no treeline reference points. Unless there was heavy recent snow, there will be an easy snowshoe trail to follow assuming the hikers are ready for that altitude. Might be doable in microspikes if the snowpack is low enough. Hope you like wind up there. I prefer to snowshoe something like this, and save the winter mountain views for skiing mostly b/c of wind: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/lulu-city The views off Sniktau to the north are nice - Pettengell, Hagar, Citadel, Bethel, Parnassus...some nice looking peaks in that Hermann Gulch area.
I agree they need alternatives to the rail for those with extra time and don't mind walking or something else. they also need to figure out security. Walking directly up from the train and being hit in the face with 700 people in a line for regular security is alarming. and then I have to walk 5 mins to get to the TSA Precheck area.
The Trader Joes on 8th and Colorado is the busiest grocery store I've ever been to. It was a fucking mad house.
something I learned today: Bluebird theater was a porno theater in the 70s and 80s. it was featured in Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead and turned back into a porno theater for the movie.
I got lucky and found a spot right away and when I walked out there were 5-6 cars circling the lot waiting for a spot to open.
for those that care, seems like some things were accomplished during the special session this month related to property taxes, working towards solutions on affordable housing issues, etc https://coloradonewsline.com/2023/11/21/colorado-property-tax-relief/
Early planning for a Jason Isbell show at Red Rocks for Friday 5/3. Never been to Denver, so what area should I stay? Potentially coming in on Thursday and then staying through the weekend.
For the three shows I’ve been to at Red Rocks, I stayed in Golden, Lakewood, and Downtown. Downtown was my favorite and all were a comparable distance time wise.
Going to Denver for the first time in two weeks. Someone give me a few must try restaurants. My friend lives by Union Station in The Coloradan. I'm only there for two nights.
Im flying solo atm. If you come in on Thursday, I have an extra ticket to Isbell at Mission if you want it. Jim Jefferies is doing a show at Paramount Theater 5/4. Reminds me I need a bus ticket to Red Rocks for both Isbell and Turnpike
booked shuttle through AXS cause it was $55 and not $79 like the other one. also saw Shane Smith/Hayes Carll/49 Winchester were playing so fuck it why not. Now have a total of 5 shows total(3 at Red Rocks) in 9 days plus hiking/skiing. How does one not spend all they're money on going to shows if you live in Denver?
A really good Mexican restaurant or a nice steak place. My gf has lived there for like five years, so she knows the good places, but I wanted to have a reservation for somewhere nice. She comes to Birmingham a lot, but I'm going to try and start visiting her once or twice a month. I'd like to have some places lined up so she doesn't have to do all the planning every time.
Nicer. Maybe both. She hates making decisions, so I just wanted to have a few spots in my pocket. It will be useful, guaranteed.
I own a company in Birmingham, so moving isn't really an option. She's moving to Birmingham in October. Yeah, I'd definitely prefer to just move to Denver, but it's not an option right now. All of her family lives here, so she isn't upset with moving back after seven years. She comes here every month already.
I am sure you know it has been remodeled and done up by Trey and Matt. and you only get reservations via an online lottery
Anyone been to smokin yard for some BBQ? Stumbled upon the Denver location recently and stopped by the Idaho Springs spot after skiing. Some damn fine BBQ.
There’s a Holiday Inn on West Colfax near Golden where we always stay for Red Rocks shows. It’s really close. Bands and their crews frequently stay there. Turnpike Troubadours tour bus was parked there last May when we saw them.
