ok i just watched the group 1 arc. it was better than i expected but still kind of standard. it definitely had some good moments.
Semi-spoiler last episode? Spoiler Emily is the best power gaming/tactical PC in CR history over all 3 campaigns, guest or cast member.
Controversial take but Percy was pretty optimized and tactical with good action economy. Liam has moments as well through all 3 campaigns but he is the opposite of a power gamer. she makes everyone else look INCREDIBLY average by comparison. Very refreshing.
So in this new CR campaign, they're shifting away from DND right? If it's known, how does/will it work?
i don't think we've seen the actual system yet. i believe they're supposed to unveil it at gencon but i could be misremembering. regardless, i'm going to guess it's similar enough to d&d. they've done a good few one shots using other systems before and they're really all the same: collaborative storytelling with dice rolling and stats. it won't be THAT different but i do believe candela obscura is supposed to be a simpler system than d&d and the d&d competitor they're working on (daggerheart).
I’m ignorant as hell to a lot of the DND world. I have only really watched Critical Role and dipped toe in a few other campaigns I’d seen mentioned. Between the start of this one, and his 4 ep mini arc thing on CR, l just enjoy his stuff more.
What are peoples thoughts on people role playing lgbtq characters when they are not? On the one hand inclusion is important and it’s fantasy but on the other it just strikes me as patronizing. Maybe I’m wrong but white players would never role play minority characters but almost every pod I frequent has one or more PC playing a lgbtq character.
i don't have a problem with it, and i don't have a problem with people playing characters whose skin color doesn't match their own. same with playing a character whose gender doesn't match their own. it simply doesn't matter. it's just a story and all of these things are irrelevant.
i'm curious to see what the plan for c3 is moving forward. Spoiler naturally, i vote for any amount of time of a 10 person table. also i could see another aabria exu soon.
Not bothered by it tbh. Straight actors have been playing gay roles for years on screen and gay actors have played straight ones. Not a big deal. Sometimes I think pods made for entertainment do it simply to be inclusive given that whole community is more active in the RPG community as a whole anyway.
This as the overall correct answer, although being CIS white-make makes me a poor judge on it. The other part is, we truly don’t know how the cast identifies so even the married cast could be Bi.
I’ve seen debate over that. She had a dark complexion but so does my dad (which is hilarious because I’m transparently white). I’m not sure she was supposed to be non-white but I don’t know
Didn’t realize Ashley and Brian foster broke up and that he was a huge piece of shit. He always came off as a giant douche
Obviously funny guy, and clearly is-was friends with some of the cast even outside of Ashley, but post-Covid talks was always super duper weird vibes and then his move to full time streaming was just bizarre
currently watching through 4sd. it was mentioned that deni$e was originally going to be a c2 guest but then covid
I think it just started slow and aimless. Once the group has direction, the quality usually improves immensely. that’s Matt’s biggest weakness imo, he doesn’t like to railroad or force the party down a specific path. That’s BLM’s strength (and a necessity in shorter d20 seasons), having a clear plot line and directing his players toward it.
I don't really look at that as a "weakness" or "strength" so much as just differing show styles. I think both would be good doing either thing with situations reversed. They are both so damn good.
Really solid episode this week. Matt’s description of the temple of the Raven Queen is Matt at his absolute prime. Outstanding. Marisha and Laura brought their A game. Fearne continues to be an awesome PC.
The most popular fan theory was that he was a true polymorphed sheep dog who got magical powers during the apogee solstice. the 4SD with him was the best of all the 4SDs
Emily and Lou from D20 are so good. Having Emily on CR was awesome. I like that her advice is know your spells. It’s amazing how often watching professional players and they don’t know what spells they have, what they do, and how and when to use them
I had never watched any d20 before this, and only seen the others that were on the Calamity arc, but I understand why everyone thinks so highly of Emily
Emily’s joke about Michael Jordan when they said who is that and she said he was a wizard was amazing and didn’t get a big enough laugh
