Preorder will be here Tuesday. Between this, finishing elden ring, and replaying forbidden west and witcher 3 I’ll be busy
I am *bart scott* for this game, might take Friday off and stay up at midnight to play for a while. And I'm excited to hear about all the hate it will get on Twitter lol
I assume he’s saying people not wanting to support JK Rowling being a POS which makes the comment really shitty
I don’t think buying a game that JK Rowling wasn’t even involved in developing makes you a bad person. JK Rowling is a dumb bitch, but enjoying a game doesn’t mean you agree with her views. It’s definitely no worse than buying any Activision game after the terrible shit came out about them.
She has so much money. You buying a game isn’t going to change anything. But I get what you’re saying because I refuse to eat at Chik Fil A.
I like watching people fail at trying to cancel something that has nothing to do with what they are angry about. Many of those people also actively wish harm or actively try to bring ruin upon people who created the game and/or who just want to enjoy the game. If being upset about that makes me shitty, I respect your right to feel that way, we will just have to disagree.
That's the part that baffles me too. Everyone wants to go in on JKR, but there's crickets about SNK games when the Saudis will straight up kill people for being gay and are killing journalists, or China is doing awful things to minorities (who knows what they do to gays or trans people over there) but there's no backlash about the games they make or the American studios they own. I understand you can't live a completely moral life and you have to make choices, but the hysteria in the gaming sphere over JKR and what they try to do to people who might *gasp* just want to enjoy a game is ridiculous when most of those same people don't have shit to say about the other awful shit perpetrated by people or groups that are way more entrenched in the business than JKR.
Hope everyone who wants to play it does so and loves every second without feeling bad about it or being made to feel about it. And I hope everyone who wants to hate on the game and wish death upon JKR also gets to do that without recrimination because that's just as important of a freedom to support as is the other side.
large majority of the outrage I’ve seen is from the stereotypical white person with an anime profile pic on social media who never says anything bad about eastern/Asian gaming companies because they make games with characters they wish they could fuck
I have no problem with people boycotting all things HP because JKR is a massive POS. She sucks, but I enjoy the world she’s built.
Yeah everything I'm hearing from people who actually are playing it say its excellent, some complaints for sure but overall a really solid outing. I really love that an (mostly) unproven studio can knock it out of the park like this.
I’m not far in but it’s pretty great so far. Hogwarts itself is fantastic and full of stuff. Then you scroll over to the world map and it’s kinda daunting.
I didn't realize Hogwarts was 7(?) stories. It's coool how it's realistic, but it can be really annoying to find things when you have to run up/down several flights of stairs. When I use the fast travel, I feel like I don't get any closer to the quest marker I was trying to go to because I'm still several floors away from it even though it looked close on the map.
I like that this is in the game but I will not be using it. Optimizing my gear and reveling in how mismatched and shitty it looks is the true way and I refuse to change
I don’t think this game does anything revolutionary, but it’s really well made and has the Wizarding World stuff down. I’m about 6 hours in and it definitely has its hooks in me.
i'm glad that no one's commented on my dark arts gear when i'm strutting my stuff in the classroom. was worried everyone would be bitchy if i put on those cosmetics. hogwarts seems very accepting of other lifestyles so far!
I was housed in Gryffindor and my wife into Ravenclaw - I want to play as a normal student first but I'm really looking forward into doing a dark arts / Slytherin run at some point.
Game is good but below my top 4 open world rpgs skyrim, elden ring, forbidden west, and witcher 3. It’s way better than I expected tbh. I’m not a big HP fan so if I was it’d prob bump it up in my ratings
Got past the first quest and sorted in a House, then I walk around the court and hear a Gryffindor student complaining about "mudbloods" in the background? what the literal fuck?
WoW had it before these in 2011. I think it was in some other MMOs but that’s probably one of the earliest “big” games to do it.
curious what the complaints are and how far into the game said person is when complaining about said thing in the game. I'm like 5-6 hours in and just now unlocked the "skill tree" of the game, haven't unlocked more than 1/4 of the spells or clothing/gear customization and upgrades. Game feels a LOOOOOT like Witcher 3, but I am more invested in this game thru 6 hours than I was in Witcher just because it's got a ton going for it that isn't combat. But the combat is really damn fun and that's before I've even gotten to test out combat with the skill tree upgrades... which honestly let you shape your guy to how you want to fight better than any game I've personally played before. And the upgraded dodge/roll ability is fucking dope you're like nightcrawler. Personally going all-in on the block/parry + counter game with ancient magic refill boosts. Almost all of my original 11 original talent points went into the Core section. Since at this point I only know 4 of the 12 combat spells I'm not gonna upgrade those until I figure out which ones are my go-to. I've only used the foofoo flames when going from Castle > Hogsmeade or outside the castle grounds. There's so much shit to find in the castle and so much ambient interaction that I honestly enjoy just running around the castle. And once you get enough side quests going (anytime I see a gray icon in the mini-map I stop and find it) you just passively are finding things to do related to those sidequests while en route between classes and main story missions. Not really a HP fan but I'm holding off on rating this game until I actually get everything unlocked and get into more combat. There's not a ton of it in the first 5 hours but the first dungeon was very well designed and incredibly fun... and kinda scary tbh. It's such a different game that I'll have a hard time comparing it to Elden Ring (FS Games are just their own category and nobody will do it better) but it feels a shit ton like Witcher 3 set in the Hogwarts universe. Only difference is W3 universe is a lot more spread out. The Room of Requirement is a fantastic feature and I'm kinda looking forward to seeing people's customized bases
also playing this game blind instead of being glued to Fextra like I normally would. Taking a lot of restraint to not look up the key for the damn rune locked doors. but going to trust the process I guess
oh and flying is pretty fuckin well done too. they'll 100% add quidditch and online/multiplayer modes and I am going to play the shit out of it
When do I get my first broom or mount? I’m assuming it’s a story quest and if so that’s all I need to know. Don’t even need to know when. I just got back from the restricted section of the library for reference. Just making sure it isn’t some random thing I have to find myself.
I'm like 6 hours in and annoyed that I'm still not able to unlock doors yet. All these locked doors around me and nothing I can do about them :(
So far everything has come via main/side quests and anything of the side quests that reward with spells/features like the broom are fed to you through the owl mail so you don't have to worry about not finding a side quest character standing in some random hallway to get you any core features. As far as I know all the "you gotta find it to find it" type stuff is mostly conjuring tools and cosmetics, which aren't necessities
Gear you find in treasure chests scales with your current level so it's good that they have a lot of that stuff "level locked" or you'd just be stuck with a ton of stuff that has terribly low-leveled stats aka stuff to sell. I'm personally not going to use it and just gonna take what the dice roll gives me but treasure chests in places that are guarded by enemies like forest camps and shit have a chest in them that give you gear upgrades (not at the point where I can add stuff to gear upgrade slots yet). You can save the game prior to opening them and open > the upgrades are completely randomized. If you don't like the upgrade you got > reload from save and open again. Could be pretty useful once you get further in the game and know what spells are your bread and butter. I'm also waiting to upgrade anything in the spell tree until I get all of them and get some practice to see which ones I wanna juice up.
Can your current level gear be "infused" with later level gear to bring it up to that level if you like a certain thing you have now or is it all trash once you find a higher level item?
I'm pretty sure no. Also on the locks. I can do them now and it took me 30 minutes to figure out. Green dot - easy one. Just move your joystick around until you see the cogs turning in the bottom right corner. Remember for later Red dot - you have to move it in a circular motion slowly and wait until the core starts turning. Once you found both spots, you hold the dots in those positions for a couple seconds and the lock unlocks.
I'm saying I don't have the option to even try. Haven't unlocked the ability or tool or whatever to try to open locks. Unless I'm misunderstanding something.
Reminder for easy Twitch drops: https://www.hogwartslegacy.com/en-us/twitch-drops It walks you through the process of hooking your WB Games account up to Twitch. Then just stream something on mute in the background for 30 minutes, grab the drop in Twitch, refresh the link above and claim the drop there as well, rinse and repeat 3 more times to get everything. Avalanche has a live stream tomorrow and if you tune in for 20 minutes, you get the Merlin’s Cloak appearance so we can all be super gay wizards together.
