Season finale dropped. Just finished it. Great episode and great season. Spoiler - Feel like this entire season played strongly into how harmful toxic masculinity is to the men in our society. This episode really showed how having a strong father figure can mitigate a lot of the mental health issues we see in our men. - RIP black noir - Love Annie officially becoming one of the Boys - Ryan playing a bigger role moving forward is going to be real interesting. - "I could shoot someone right in the middle of 5th avenue and not lose a single supporter."
Spoiler while I think it was the best season, the ending kinda fell flat to me in that I dont really know what the overall plot/point of this season was like they took this new character out of hiding to bring him back, not really change much, and then just put him back in hiding kinda back to where it was at the end of last season
Spoiler IDK if I'd say we're right back to where we were. Butcher only has months to live. Almost the entire 7 is disbanded. Annie is officially one of the boys. And Ryan might end up being the strongest supe yet and has Homelander seemingly firmly in his life as the only guiding voice now. Not to mention Homelander is in complete control of vought and will soon have an ally (and fellow supe) in the white house. I'd say a lot of shit is different from where the season started.
Spoiler I just dont feel like that's 8 hours worth of story it was on this trajectory for a finale showdown against the villain and at the last second they completely pivot against that and temporarily team up with him
Spoiler I get what you're saying. I think it still tells a story though. The whole time it was a question of how far the desire for revenge would let these guys go. Where is the line? How are they any different from the supes that they hate? For most of the boys, that question was answered throughout the season. For Hughie and Butcher, that question was answered this episode.
Spoiler Agree with both points by AFB and Diesel. When they showed Soldier Boy still alive I said “wait so we’re basically back to where we started?” But I do get the season showed a ton of character progression for all the gang. And the Seven is now the Three (4 assuming Ryan gets added which would be a big potential money maker for Vought being a kid and being Homelanders son) Solid finale but probably ranked 7th-8th out of the 8 episodes this season it was… more tame than I was expecting. Best season of the show for me though
After reading about black noir in the comics I was really let down by how this played out. Wish I wouldn’t have read that
Spoiler Black Noir's arc was very unsatisfying. I guess it reinforced the idea that it's all about Homelander, but did we really need to spend that time on him just for him to go out like that. Overall, great season though. obviously Butcher has an expiration date, but I'd be surprised if there are no repercussions for Hughie.
I don't think black sludge coming out of the ears is a good sign for petite hughie's longevity but maybe that's just the "don't take one more or you're toast" sign and he's good
Spoiler This was my biggest issue as well. I'm fine with black noir being different than what he was in the comics (I'm actually getting vibes that Ryan might serve more of that role in the TV show). But to spend so much time on him episode 7 just to have him go out like that in the finale was dissatisfying. Still liked this season a lot and thought the finale was good overall. But that storyline feels a little botched. ...Unless he's not really dead? He does have those regenerative abilities...
Spoiler is the child in the comics. The idea that he is clone or at least raised raised for the specific design to kill home lander would be a good story arc not sure it goes that way though. Maybe that wasn’t even the real noir and he is being kept hostage too. Lot of ways the show could go
Spoiler In the comics, butcher kills the baby immediately so the Ryan character never really exists like he does in the show. But in the show, I could see Ryan becoming the only safeguard to Homelander sorta like noir was in the comics.
I liked the finale a lot. I get the criticism but feel like it’s either premature because we don’t know where they’re going with it or unfair because the show is obviously not a frame by frame retelling of the comics.
I liked it a lot. I don't know anything about the comics but I too expected a little more to happen with BN after the previous episode.
Any defending of the black noir storyline this year has to be trolling, what in the fuck was any of that?
Outside of the drowning scene where he just gets out of the pool, I don't think there's a scene with The Deep where I don't laugh. Easily the funniest character.
Finale was great, I love this show so much and love how the tone has shifted. This season focused a lot on consequences of the character’s actions and it works well with the over the top parody/humor stuff. best season of the show so far for me
Love this show but they way they did Black Noir was dumb as fuck. I don’t really care that much, but it was still dumb.
I read the comics version of Noir after he died in the last episode. Shit is crazy but don’t think it would have played as well on TV plus they didn’t set it up well since S1
Yea I don’t care that they went a different direction from the comics. They just shrouded his character and abilities with so much mystery, he never did shit, and then gave him schizophrenia, and murked him without even putting up a fight. Shit was just a lame.
Ugh hate this Ryan shit. But not in a it’s bad tv bad it’s just sad bad. It makes total sense for him to head the Barron Trump route after what all happened this season. Fuck you, Butcher. Also god damn the guy who plays Homelander is so fucking good. Best actor on TV right now making Homelander the best character on TV right now imo. Great finale overall. SB going back in the box love to see it fuck off forever you right cunt lmaoooo
Isn't he a clone of Homelander in the comics? That would have been a pretty cool plot twist for the show.
Maybe this was the point but my main question coming out of this season is what happens next? Their plan to stop Homelander was ruined so there is no real threat to him moving forward. I guess they just lean into him being psycho even more but what is there that The Boys can do to stop them at this point? Also, if Butcher is about to die why cant they just get him some regular V and make him a supe? Wouldn't that theoretically save his brain?
My guess is that Stan Edgar has something up his sleeve and enlists The Boys to carry it out. He took his leave of absence and just kind of disappeared. and I'm guessing Butcher doesn't get saved and that his dying coincides with the end of the series, which I imagine will be next season or S5.
Unless it's for the purpose of stopping Homelander, you'd have to think Butcher would rather just die than become a supe. Nerd alert below: In theory, Butcher sacrificing himself to save Ryan and Ryan going all Gohan to be able to destroy Homelander fits the narrative.
They could also still weaponize Soldier Boy’s de-powering abilities. He’s contained, he can be experimented on and they can maybe use it against supes.
The thing I never understood about this show/books is they gave abilities through drugs. You would think as a contingency against scenarios like Homelander they would have made the drug that could take their powers away.
Something I have been confused about this entire series. How do kids get the super powers originally? The show has shown it being injected and created by Vaught but where do random kids get it? Starlight for instance, it appears she came from nothing so how/when did she randomly get shot up with the super powers? And how is it done so that no one knows its a created drug and not natural?
Her mom signed her up for the trial or whatever, and was paid for it, I believe. Those people know it was a drug and just don’t say anything. Disclaimer: just watched the whole series in a couple of weeks so it’s very possible I got that wrong. But that’s how I remember that playing out in season 1 or 2
Ahhh, I vaguely remember that. So every supe has been a part of the drug trial and just doesnt say anything.
