Should've just let Kasdan and his son direct the movie in the first place. Issues on 3/5 of the new movies doesn't look good for business either.
Just do a Tales from Jabba’s Palace or Tales of the Bounty Hunters movie. Not one focused solely on Fett
Listen, sure a movie about a cool bounty hunter chasing scum across the galaxy could be cool, but why focus on only one? All those dudes on board the Devastator looked cool and interesting, not just Fett.
He's basically a clean slate. His popularity is based on (A) his look and weapons, and (B) he's famous for being famous. Giving the franchise to someone who understands how to balance character and action and plot is a good move. He'd have been a good pick for the Obi Wan movie too; that's another story that needs to be small in scope, heavy on character. Like a western.
He’s not a clean slate at all. He could have been a clean slate, but George wanted to maximize fanboyism for the prequels and shoehorned Fett and his “dad” into them, then Filoni, under George’s guidance kept going with the young Boba story in the Clone Wars
Damn it, it was the Executor Edit: Proud of the thread that I was beaten. I nerd raged too hard to scroll down.
Lol I legit forgot he was in the prequels. I was only thinking of OT Boba and I expect his movie will either be set during the OT or right after he escapes from the Sarlacc. In other words I expect the movie will ignore the prequels, which is what I try to do
The Star Wars brand sells itself. Also one of the movies I'm talking about hasn't even come out yet and won't till 2019.
Spoiler I thought it was solid, competently made and occasionally really fun, but ultimately a little too bland. There were great little moments peppered throughout. I loved the two Sabaacc games. I loved Han shooting first. I loved the Chewie intro. I loved Darth Maul. I loved Han speaking Wookie, stupid as it really was. I loved Kira (I refuse to spell it the right way) name-dropped the Teras Kasi fighting style. I love that Aaura Sing got name-dropped too. L4 started off slow but ended up great; the droid rebellion was hilarious. A gonk droid angrily stomping on a computer console in rebellion is something I am glad I got to see The whole third act is great, but the first two are really dry, bringing the whole thing down more than Rogue One did (which also had a rough first half). Lando: "I hate you" Han: "I know" biggest smile on my face right there. I think the biggest shock I had was that they are setting up for Han-led sequels. I assumed going in that this was a one-off. Hopefully the next one has less drama behind the scenes.
Spoiler as a non-cartoon watcher, that felt super random 7/10 for me. Well made overall and I thought the kid did a good job as Solo, Glover was great, and some strong action. Glad they made it but I have very little desire to rewatch any time soon.
Spoiler L4 being a great navigator and then getting hardwired into the Falcon was a good touch to explain why the ship is so "fast" (in terms of how quickly it can make calculations, which is what "fast" means in Star Wars terms. Now the next time I'm watching Empire and C3PO mentions how the Falcon "has a peculiar dialect" I'm going to laugh twice as hard.
Spoiler pretty much agree 100% The movie was carried by being a star wars movie with characters we already know because it was pretty bad in terms of story. It was essentially the Fast and Furious of star wars, a bunch of long action sequences with the occasional plot/character development mixed in. Kira was a good character that I enjoyed. L4 didn't really do much for me outside of the hilarity of the droid rebellion. Also pretty major plot hole by her dying when we all know she is a droid where the only thing that matters is hard drive/processor which was undamaged because it got put into the Falcon. Saving her was certainly possible and it could easily have been fixed by saying that downloading her into the Falcon's computer was irreversible. Glover was a perfect Lando. Absolute home run casting and performance. And I agree 100% that it seems they set it up to have sequels because without them what's the point of the ending. I mean I guess it's possible the storylines are tied up via books, but it seems odd to set something up in a movie and finish it in a novel. overall it was a fun summer blockbuster type movie that was carried by good acting but it was nowhere near as good or as deep as Rogue One.
Spoiler agreed It's below Rogue One, but I'd probably keep it above the prequels. At least the acting is solid and the direction competent. The plot was bland but at least it didn't collapse in on itself like Ep1-3
