I disagree with this. The Dem establishment is very organized and executed a plan to precision. The problem is that they don't share the same beliefs on the economy as the majority of the people who identify as liberals or progressive, and they didn't foresee is how much that mattered. Now they are hoping they can outlast the progressive movement and regain control of the party before the elections. And to them we say "NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER...NOT EVER"
Dan Rather has been awesome since Trump became a serious candidate. Unfortunately I feel like he's going to get disappeared soon. He'll be one of the first to go.
I tend to believe that one of the primary issues with the Democratic Party is that it's difficult for them to put together an overarching economic philosophy when there are so many sub-groups within their ranks. You get some socialists, some centrists, some in the middle, some nutty ass communists, etc. Some are in favor unions, others are not. You can't really satisfy all of them. For the Republicans, it's a lot easier. Just say "lower taxes and less government because government doesn't work and we've proven it to you (by obstructing and making sure it doesn't work)." Either way, you've got a pretty solid majority of your base satisfied just by saying less taxes and less government.
Yeah, but the Saudis do the same thing with other factions. I'm not saying the Iranian government are great people, but the young generation there is pretty progressive. I think we shouldn't be giving them anymore reason to buy into the anti-American rhetoric than necessary.
Cronkite had a criticism of Rather I read somewhere that Rather didn't hide his liberal well enough when he was a newsman and Cronkite was a liberal as well. How much of a liberal do you have to be to make other liberals uncomfortable? Shit sounded dope af.
My FIL is a chemical engineer for Kimberly Clark. Basically he acts as an energy consultant to each of their hundreds of plants around the world. He's prevented literally thousands of tons of carbon emissions from being released into the atmosphere through all of his projects. He's had more impact on man's role in climate change than any one person I know. Yet he thinks climate change is a hoax and voted for trump. He looks at what he does as a cost saving measure.
Helping to deliver a simply message is important. I'm favorable to the branding of the party being "pro labor". It allows for a wide umbrella of varying degrees of what that means, and is a stark contrast to what the GOP is doing...

Thank you for that context. Still skeptical of their intentions on what "modernizing" the arsenal means exactly (i.e. we get a fuckton more of 'em for no reason other than to rattle some people), but at least it seems like they're not deliberately stripping down one of our defenses against nuclear war.
Generally no. Modernization simply means modernization. The weapons systems being deployed are legitimately old and could be updated. The last set of missiles were deployed in 80's. Plus as long as START is in place, the US is limited http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/pentagon-plans-modernize-us-nuclear-arsenal/story?id=44372054 Now that's usually what it means and I know the president is a bit of a loose cannon, but I don't think Cotton has in mind ending START and ramping up production. But perhaps he does.
Because it is scary as hell and the only other thing in American history that it is reminiscent of is slave-catchers roaming the border states trying to find runaways.
Ha. My FIL was also a chemical engineer for Kimberly Clark paper, but he retired years ago and worked as a consultant part time for them for the last few years. This is his first year of full retirement. And yes this is the same guy who I posted about in the father in law thread about how I caught him reading and taking notes on the Clinton email deposition, and reading book about stopping voter fraud from Judicial watch while they were visiting us over the holidays
