Any suggestions for Malmo, Sweden? Just over the bridge from Copenhagen but known as "Crime City" apparently. My wife and some of her friends are going there for Roller Derby European Champs.
My buddy went to this place for a business dinner in his first week living there. Has one Michelin star. Looks like a top notch fine dining restaurant. https://maps.app.goo.gl/szvBuWh4XriKRVH16?g_st=ic
Go to Lofoten if you can make it work. Ideally as late into your stay as possible so you can hike. If the weather gods are somewhat on your side you won’t regret it.
Any tips on best way to get there from Copenhagen? Or the region? Is it doable without renting a car? That’s my big hang up.
copenhagen has some of the highest quality food in the world and like, everywhere from taco and hot dog stands to the finest dining on earth gobsmacked at that statement
There are flights from Oslo to Svolvær, which is in Lofoten, and Bodø, which is a few hours ferry ride from the southern end of Lofoten. A car will make things way easier but there is a bus that goes through the island, though probably infrequently. It could probably work if you stayed somewhere central close to a bus stop and then bussed to and from hiking start points.
I also got propositioned to have group sex at a 3 Michelin star restaurant in copenhagen so I'm biased alchemist is wild
Alright I've got my food plans and reservations: Dinner reservations May 31 @ 7PM-Friday Night-Lobster Bar per your recommendation June 1 @ 7PM-Saturday night-Evelyns-I'm thinkign this place on the top of 4 Seasons with awesome water views is going to be legit: "This Eastern Mediterranean restaurant is located on the roof of the Four Seasons Hotel on A1A and has a great ocean view—both from the indoor and outdoor seating. That view is worth coming alone, but Evelyn’s also has really good cocktails and one of the best menus of any upscale spot in Fort Lauderdale. There are seafood towers if you want to ball out, as well as great mezze, wagyu beef kibbeh, and more dishes that utilize local seafood. " June 2-Sunday night-The Katherine-this place kept popping up in all the “best of Fort Lauderdale” lists I was looking at-mostly Eater and The Infatuation Lunch spots Laspadas per your recommendation plus it kept popping up on lists Southport Raw Bar and Restaurant Rustin Inn Crabhouse
We wanted to do Lofoten because it's popular and looks beautiful, but it's so far north. Nothing is near it and there's not much to do other than take pics. You may be able to do a sled dog tour though. That's one this I really wanted to do, but it was "summer" when we were there so all the dogs were up in the polar circle.
I agree, I almost put a note on why we chose it. It was the only place open when we got there. I think we arrived on a Sunday and it's a village of 4k people, so not many options.
I was going to suggest Rustic Inn. It's very loud there, but it's a cool experience if you're in tourist mode. Rocco's Taco's on Las Olas is good/fun. Funky Buddah Brewery is good beer and food is pretty good.
Now that I think about it, I think the place I'm giving credit to Sweden for having great food was really in Copenhagen. I'll see if I can figure out the places we went.
It didn't feel "crimey" to me. We just walked/scootered around and went to a soccer game though. We stayed in Copenhagen. Seemed nice to me. Sorry I don't have anything else to add. It was fun hearing a little girl yell insults at the soccer players.
Don't rent a car. We spent 2 weeks and never got a car. If you haven't been to Europe before, you're in for an awakening of how inefficient our vehicle centric transportation system is.
all I remember about Malmo is somebody claimed it was a "No Go Zone" years ago and someone offered to pay them to walk around and film they went and walked around and it was just a normal ass city been hearing about it more being an awesome vacation destination the last few years and the building of a metro line connecting it to Copenhagen going to blow it up in popularity
hope you enjoy. Let me know your honest thoughts after the trip. Also let me know how the others worked out for my next trip down there, if you don't mind. Enjoy the time off
This Larb Thai Isan place gets a lot of love. "Best Thai food in South Florida." Looks like a nondescript strip mall joint. I guess it brings the fire. Trying to decide whether it's worth going to.
Just booked this because I got a stupid deal on it. Virgin is the only cruise line I would bother to try so I'm low key excited. Do you remember if any of the restaurants are must try?
the Mediterranean tapas spot on the back of the ship was our favorite place to spend time. razzle dazzle which is a real restaurant was our favorite of sit down table service style spots. all the restaurants were good though, the test kitchen spot wasn't worth imo but i'm a cunt about food who does those type of places in normal life.
Anyone ever have a hotel accidentally not charge you for a stay? I went to my company’s HQ last week and stayed at a Marriott for 4 nights. I checked out on Friday and tried to do my expense report on Monday but the charge wasn’t on my card. I asked my coworkers that were there with me and they all had their charges on their accounts. I went to my Marriott account and have a receipt and have gotten points for the stay but still no charge on my card. I also checked every other card I have to make sure none of them were used accidentally and it’s not on any of them either.
Anyone else use Briggs & Riley carry-on? Replacing existing luggage & leaning that direction... wondered if anyone had first person experience.
I have this Osprey joint in blue and carry it across my chest rather than a lumbar pack. Works great and is plenty big, fits all the shit I need for a 2.5yo and a couple thangs for dad. Filled up it’s a little bigger than I really need so I avoid. Hiking it’s great for that tho and I don’t have to pack a daypack. My wife uses one for work (pilot) and loves it. Will probably opt for a 4 wheel version in the very near future. Super durable and they’ll take care of you. She had a handle break and the sent new parts in a couple days time. I fixed it in a couple minutes. High quality stuff. Adventures of standby flying. We’re en route to Switzerland currently. Plans were to fly Delta to Amsterdam (26 open seats, 15 people on SB list) then hop a Ryan Air or something to Zurich and train it to Bern. Decided to change flights to Paris (15 open seats, couple on SB list, 3 of us seemed in the clear). Plenty of seats left Wednesday and better/easier options/connections to get to Bern. London was last option with the worst connections, there was a handful of seats left but probably weren’t going to make it. Thursday comes and all 3 flights either booked or overbooked overnight. Must have been a disruption in operation. Fuck. We We bought standby tix on Aer Dingus for $270 for the 3 of us to Dublin. Plan now is to stay the day/night here tonight and fly to Zurich Sunday on the cheap, 1 hr train to Bern. Sucks with a 2.5yo but she’s pretty used to it at this point and just rolls w/ mom and dad. Staying at the College Green hotel tonight and depending on how the little shit responds might stay an extra night for shingles. Have to be back next Sunday for work Monday, planning on getting stateside however possible Saturday and bearing through it until we get to MSP Sunday. It’s not without shitshows but pretty fun when things get left to chance and you gotta just roll with it and make shit happen.
Thats fair. Just gotta acknowledge it going in and be comfortable with the results. MJ is currently on 3 hours sleep but partying.
She draws people in, it’s amazing. Posted previously ITT but we get these little gift boxes and put chocolates and lip balm in them and give a bunch to the flight attendants. The Lingus folks bent over backwards for us, had 5 different people come over and say thank you. Gate guy gave us a 4w row to ourselves. In flight folks gave us a bunch of drinks and snacks for free and they gave us a big bag of cookies and chocolates, two bottles of wine, and soap and lotion to take to the home.
Airlines will sell a ticket for an overbooked flight, then you hope someone cancels. I’ve done it when trying to catch an earlier flight back. It rarely works because the flights are already oversold to begin.
They are in the airline industry. They get what's called ZED which is a way for airline employees and family to fly on flight benefits on another airline. It's all priced out based on milage so the price depends on the airline and how far.
Ah - so airlines don’t sell standby tickets to the general public then? I saw his wife is a pilot, but thought he was saying something different for Aer Lingus
Ive had b&r as my main check bag and a medium size back pack carry on for years. Really high quality, still look new and have used them on probably 40-50 trips.
as an airline employee you can fly standby on other airlines as well, you’re just usually lower on the priority list than with your own. But no I don’t think any airline still sells standby tickets to the general public.
DL had major issues yesterday that cascaded because of weather in ATL so probably rolled over a lot of people to your flights
Great pub. We weren’t expecting much from the food but holy shit their bacon and cabbage was absolutely delicious. Fish and chips were pretty good too.
random question - throw me some random answers: where should I take the fam for a 4-5 day trip at end of July can't be too expensive will use Jetblue points for flight so wherever they fly from FL
I'd get out of that heat and head for Portland Maine or somewhere cooler What airport is closest to you?
Can you get to Canada on JetBlue? Nice time of year to visit most of the major cities and the exchange rate should be favorable.
Anyone done the Catskills before? Leaning towards that for our late summer/early fall trip with friends from out west. It’s our year to pick the destination and this is where I’m leaning. I guess the main thing I’m wondering is if all the surrounding hamlets will be packed still. Looking at going sometime in September.
