And then cleaning the sensor probably shows the people inside that they’re still committed to providing service to the silo even as they near death in exile. Would be my thinking on the cheering for them
Some a comment on Reddit that was pretty funny. Hope they start off S2 with Juliette going around cleaning all the cameras at different silos just to fuck with everyone.
Simms is part of Bernard’s Silo Protection plan, only Bernard knows “everything”. Simms has been let in on some of it so his motivations is to “protect” the Silo on the utmost level. edit: i guess what I’m trying to say is Simms has been tasked with limited information, He’s simply doing his job while simultaneously putting his family first. That’s why Bernard reprimanded him for putting them ahead of the Silo
The show really captured the pace from the book. The first half or so was what we got this season and then with the finale its pedal to the metal with all kinds of info. Really is one of my favorite shows now.
I'm debating rather to read the book, at least the first one. I want to know where this is going like right now, but with streaming TV shows these days when combined with all the Hollywood strikes, probably won't be getting season 2 until like 2025 at the earliest. Has the show strayed much from the book or has it been pretty close?
It's decently close, but there are some changes. I imagine most are for better translation to screen, but there are a couple of changes I can think of that kind made question why they did it. I worry one particular change can have a big ripple throughout the rest of the story, but we'll see. The first season covered nearly half of the first book, so if you read book 1 in full there will be some future spoilers in it.
Damn I didn't realize there are 9 books in the series. Are some of these like prequel/sequel books that start a new story? Or do all 9 encompass the main story?
Pretty close to the book. Only big thing I really noticed was the syndrome thing with the hand tick. I had to look that up and it’s just in the show because I didn’t remember it from the book.
can any of the book readers explain the meaning of the title or would that spoil things? I seem to remember the basket from Supply containing the tape & materials for Jule’s suit saying ‘WOOL’ on it and I’m curious what significance that has (if we’ve even gotten to that point) or if I’m just a big dumb idiot and it’s just a nod to “the wool being pulled over their eyes”?
I mean it could be meant as what you said as well but they call the stuff they clean with when they go outside wool.
“Wool” can be interpreted on different levels in re: to the book wool is the substance wipers use to physically clean the external camera/“sensors” wool is also an apt way to describe the ignorance of the Silo as to what they perceive is reality in contrast to the actual reality in time, “wool” takes on a different meaning that I won’t post anymore about
just binged this over the last couple of days and i was super captivated. i was theorizing that they were on the moon or some foreign planet so outside = death because of no air. that looked like the lake bed of a great lake or maybe an ocean. really interested in knowing what happens next because that's a very strange place to end the season. one question: in the finale, the lady who left her house for the first time in 25 years went to visit her ex partner. they talked about some sort of video they had that was way more incriminating than the "jane" cleaning video showing the sun and green plants. did i understand that right? was i supposed to know that video or was that the first time it was alluded to?
I forgot this may have been covered in the finale, but how did Ferguson not run out of air like everyone else did who went outside?
The oxygen supply was never the issue The suits are rigged to fail so the toxic environment kills them. not lack of O2. Walker gave them the better “heat tape” to use on Juliette’s suit. That is the reason she’s still alive
I'm really excited for this series moving forward....Season 1 was great for what it was but hang on to your hats boys
Just got to the point of Juliette’s cleaning in Wool. I kinda get that they needed to add some TV drama fluff to the show but they could have easily covered the story in half a season. I’m assuming them doing what they did Spoiler Creating Common’s character and giving us so much billings story who has only been in the book for like half a page total writing off the entire Juliette love story to Tv drama fluff at this point is done for a reason for future season setup exposition to have it already done. Book is an incredibly easy read. Love it so far
Really curious who they’re gonna cast as Spoiler solo In my head I’m imagining Murray Bartlett basically the same way he was as Frank in TLOU
I’ve admittedly not read the books but I’m struggling to picture a role that could be played by either Murray Bartlett and/or Delroy Lindo
Only roles that come to mind for him are always FBI/Cop-like commander or a boss of some sort. Always in some position of authority playing the wisdom man. maybe this character in the book turns into that but as of right now Delroy normally plays the exact opposite of this guy
iirc solo is like 30ish and mentally slow bc he grew up in isolation i think he should be played by mary kate and ashley
Spoiler Good lord the mission for Juliette to go underwater and get power to the main generator in Silo 17 is going to be fucking intense. Hands real sweaty reading that whole chapter
Alright that was a really really good book. Thank you TMB for introducing this tv/book series literally would never have given either a shot if it weren't for this TV board. Started on book 2. Like the idea of book 2 being the prequel and then wrapping everything up in book 3. already enjoying the first few chapters of Shift.
Blew through the first 2 books. Hit a snag in book 3 and need to get back to it. There’s one storyline that wasn’t doing it for me and felt like a drag reading those chapters so I fell off.
Spoiler Adam Scott as Donald the senator that designs the silo in the 2049 timeline. Already an Apple+ actor. Troy the 2110 dude on shift could be Tony Kebbell who I’ve mentally cast as those people when reading.
Finally finished Shift. What a ride. Really curious how they adapt a lot of that book to television. Spoiler was not prepared to get wrecked when Jimmy had to bury shadow Immediately started on Dust after finishing Shift and about 50 pages in. have a feeling I'm going to fly through this book so I can see how all of this ends
Finished the 3rd book finally. Thoroughly enjoyed the story from start to finish. Wouldn't change a thing about the books everything was very satisfying the way it played out. Was thinking I would want William Hurt to play Thurman but saw that he died in 2022. Shame he would have been a good fit for that. Hope they knock it out of the park with Solo, Thurman, Donald, Anna and Charlotte. Spoiler After finishing everything up, the decision for them to make Common's character 1000x more involved than he is in the book is just baffling to me at this point. I expected based on his screen time that he would play a larger role in books 2-3 that they were setting up for. Nope. MFer has like 9 total lines in the books and if they try to recreate the scene where Sims tries to impersonate Bernard before Thurman gasses Silo 17 that's going to be hilariously awful.
Seen some people from here in the 3BProblem thread. Thoughts when I was watching one particular series of scenes: Spoiler: book 2 So Onion Knight and the scientist gang are basically about to go on "Shift" with the whole cryo freeze > unfreeze > work > freeze plan
Was watching the Fallout show was a little surprised by one conversation Spoiler When Ghoul's wife was like I'm trying to get us in a special admin vault that would oversee and control all the other vaults until it's time for us to go back to the surface
Late to the party, but my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the first season (just finished tonight). Neither of us have read the books, but I might.
Starting Episode 6 now, I'm hooked. Great show...I'm just pissed I/m already on episode 6 lol....I want more.....
