I skipped going to the gym this morning to watch before work lol. Looking forward to seeing everyone's thoughts
Yep, have a feeling it’s going to be pretty divisive, but that was just a masterclass in staying true to what you’ve created.
I need to dig into the meaning of it all a bit more, but my takeaway is that the Anjin was just a clown and a distraction for Torananga to become Shogun all along? It feels like both the characters in the show and the audience share that same experience if I am interpreting this correctly. Also the opening sequence is just a dream as he never left Japan. This is evidenced by us seeing him throw the cross away, so he couldn’t have had the cross in real life.
The old man stuff was just a fever dream while he was knocked out after the explosion. Toranaga was gunning for Shogun the entire time
I thought it was awesome despite not being what I expected. All of them pulling the ship out was a great scene as was the little teardrop as Blackthorne left Osaka.
Nothing was crazy shocking. Kinda just felt like an hour long wrap up. Idk maybe without Mariko things fell a bit flat for me. Rest of the series was great but some of the big moments or reveals in the finale didn’t do a whole lot for me.
I’d say the reveal that Yabushige was the only one that had correctly assessed Toranaga’s “secret heart” was pretty fun. I also loved the “dream within a dream” of Blackthorne and his future that never comes. But mostly I just loved the characters and how they played off each other, the final scene with Yabushige and Toranaga was exquisite from start to finish
The finale while probably not quite what I expected felt very fitting. One of the best television shows I've watched in quite a long time.
I think my only critique is they kind of rushed the explanation. Otherwise I love how they wrapped it all up.
Solid finale, although I probably would have preferred something a bit more climactic and final for a miniseries Still good though, and the series overall was excellent.
I really appreciate Toranaga’s entire ethos of “procrastinate as long as possible”. Worked out well for him.
Yabushige: "how does it feel to shape the wind to your will?" Torranaga: "I don't control the wind, I only study it" BARS
Finished it just now did a few things different from the book, some I liked some I didn’t. Still one of the best single seasons of television ever. actors for Mariko and Yabushige were so damn good
I don't know where this ranks among all time tv shows. But it's up there . Just finished the finale. Fucking beautiful, sad, transcendent, and complete. I don't know that they could have nailed it any harder. This season was an absolute masterpiece.
I was fine with it. But would have liked to see a bit more of the battle during the explanation with yabushige. Fantastic show. 10/10
I really enjoyed Yabushige smirking at Toranaga after he disembowels himself, then Toranaga smirking before decapitating him.
didnt love the show as much as everyone else, at least for the first 7 eps but the last 3 eps were excellent
One of mine as well. I really thought the Portuguese plotline was going to play a larger role in the season based on this scene.
I purposely avoided reading about the show to not get spoiled. I was pretty shocked when it ended to see that there wasn't going to be another season
Was watching a peaky blinders scene of the guy Tommy got to try and kill Mosley. Took me about 10 seconds then oh shit it’s Anjin
10/10 series Spoiler I loved the scene with Mariko fighting when she tried to leave. She made this show. Only complaint was I wish we would have gotten a larger battle, because it was so freaking cool seeing those guys fight in the full samurai armor. For the book readers, what was different?
