Wintersun says they have completed Time II. I know that’s been a meme for years now so figured I’d share. I’ll wait until there’s a release date to really believe them.
Going to spoiler links of these so I don’t bomb the thread but here are some 2023 albums I’ve discovered since the year ended that I enjoyed. If they were already discussed itt, oh well, here they are again. In no order: Tetragrammacide - Typho-Tantric Aphorisms from the Arachneophidian Qur’an (blackened/dissonant death metal) Wreathe - The Land is Not An Idle God (emo/crust punk) One of Nine - Eternal Sorcery (melodic black metal) Wormhole - Almost Human (tech death/slam) Scarab - Scarab (hardcore) Grove Street - The Path to Righteousness (hardcore/metalcore) Convocation - No Dawn for the Caliginous Night (funeral doom/death doom) Cruciamentum - Obsidian Refractions (death metal) Spoiler
It’s funny how sometimes you just have to revisit something. My first listen I liked it but nothing crazy. Revisited and man, total ripper.
My two favorite songs are Sinister Will and Layers of Darkness. both albums those songs come from are excellent. you’re in for a treat.
I’ve fallen off Mastodon a bit in their latter catalogue but their earlier stuff through Crack the Skye was foundational for me, and I have a Leviathan poster in my office. I saw them last year with Gojira and in 2022 with Opeth.
ashes of the wake was the first thing i ever listened to with harsh vocals. it’s all been downhill for me since
I remember playing a Lamb of God music video for my friend when we were like 13 and him looking at me like I was insane.
Iron Front - Hooked If you’re into 200 Stab Wounds or that kind of death metal/hardcore/slam mix, this is in that vein.
^^^ this tour and Death To All are on back to back nights for me. also have Wayfarer / Sonja a couple weeks before. going to be a good spring.
Gonna be honest, 1349 would be the one I’m least interested in of those four. Wish that tour was coming within driving distance for me
Same, I find their stuff less exciting. Spectral Wound and Spirit Possession are two of my favorite bands though. Fine for me though, tough to stay up past 10 for anything these days!
the respect is there. it all sort of blends together for me after a while. what are some of your favorite tracks? maybe i'm 1349'ing incorrectly.
separately, i am hoping to see Death To All later this year. prompted me to spend some more time with Death's Symbolic. what an incredible album that was. utterly perfect.
They're not a must have for me black metal wise but they're better than a lot of the bands Butthead picks up from Pitchfork.
max phelps is really great in the chuck role. still think his best performance is on that weird defeated sanity album though.
