i did actually remember you but i did the tag incorrectly then deleted it. same for like two others. then didn't want to triple post.
RIP to The Magnificent Bastard Arkie Proud Jack's Colon OTM bturns Super Vegeta Iron Mickey Artoo Hell even Bricktop the white played for a bit.
i'm about a week from opening up a little shop in chicago for people to use for their d&d sessions. really looking forward to it.
Like I mentioned in the baldurs gate thread I just found an online game due to my jealousy of not getting to play bg3 since it’s not out on Xbox. Never played before so we’ll see how it goes. Running a dark elf ranger which after some reading may make me kind of a basic bitch but yolo. We’re doing baldurs gate descent into avernus and had our first session on Tuesday but didn’t make it very far since most of us are new. My party members seem like they may be a little soft so we’ll see how we mesh going forward.
should be a lot of fun. we were working on a homebrew world in which we would run sessions but our dm got into northwestern law so that aspect has been put on hold for a bit.
Haven’t been able to play since our youngest was born. The only show my wife regularly try to watch together is Crit Role and it scratches the itch somewhat. Currently 50ish episodes into campaign 3. Vox Machina is p good too.
read a great article from the New York Times about Texas death row prisoners and their D&D games https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/31/magazine/dungeons-dragons-death-row.html?searchResultPosition=1
it really seemed like they fucked around in low stakes activities for 50 episodes while ignoring the plot. we've all been guilty of that. but once the solstice got there i started enjoying it as much as i have past campaigns.
dan is doing a one shot tomorrow. we're doing a pathfinder 2e intro session on 9/11 with that connect you made. i'm guessing our real campaign may pick up again next sunday but i'm not sure. you are welcome to join any of those.
just feels like there’s been a lot of nothing like let’s go talk to Orim’s mom for 30 minutes, let’s go hang gliding for 45 minutes. I know it can’t be all action but they spend a lot of time doing nothing. I like seeing Travis/Ashley being the main comedic relief this season.
i'm ready for chet to roll that 100. not because i dont like the character but because it would be hilarious.
It seems to me that they’re really leaning heavily into character development like it’s a movie and not necessarily a strict DnD game. It makes sense to me because they’re trying to grow their brand. I only watched half of C2 and I haven’t seen any if C1. My wife watched all of the Mighty Nein and it took her a long time to get really interested in C3. That being said, I love Chetney. The transition of Taliesen from Caduceus to Ashton has been kind of weird for me but he’s Uber talented so I’m not going to doubt his method. Liam always impresses me as well. Ashley seems like she’s never played DnD every episode but that has its appeal.
caduceus is the only talisson character I have liked. Fearne is perfect for Ashley just like jester was perfect for Laura. Feels like they’re both just playing slightly turned up versions of themselves
I think Jester is my wife’s favorite character with Fearne coming in second, but there’s some distance there. Im also convinced that Taliesen is the only person at the table who knows how to play a support character. I love Sam, but him being the cleric is wildly wrong in a funny way, at least as far as I’ve seen.
I’m undecided on what I think about Sam as a background character. Scanlan and knot were so prominent in the first two campaigns it feels like the campaign is losing something with him trying to be understated.
i thought Beau was a very good character. Please respect my decision, I will not be taking any questions
Had our second session last night. The group really dwells on some of the useless minutiae and it has been taking us forever to make much progress. I try to push us along but as the singular voice it doesn’t always work. We’ve also got some people role playing really hard which is a bit much. Finally got into some combat though which was nice.
Everyone playing such over the top good characters might drive my drow elf to murder an innocent person at this rate
I would smite any of my players that decide, 3 sessions in, to start killing for fun. They'll still be rolling on my custom "prison daily activities" d8 list
