This is an excuse. A champion can have multiple promos. Cody had been making on both Raw and Smackdown since Mania. All without fighting a match. Jericho getting a promo first was placed on a higher pedestal than Swerve. From what I read a good post ppv show notwithstanding.
Seems the start of a faction fight. Weird to happen right after the entire Perry suspension and Punk drama. Think the drama is in who Kenny Omega is going to team up with to face the Elite.
Hopefully hes been embellishing his updates on his stomach and is closer to coming back to the ring than he’s been letting on
I'll bet he's still many months out, and if anything, there will be an angle next week during his return that takes him out again, setting up whatever feud he'll have when he finally returns for good.
I figure it’s either that next week or he steps in as the interim authority figure to give him something to do while he’s still a ways from returning. They can always lay him out when it’s closer to his actual return
I have to admit they have handled the Jack Perry/Elite/TK angle pretty well. Interested to see where this goes. Hopefully TK doesn't make it about himself because he's not great on the mic. Who steps up to the Elite? Omega coming back soon? Had the same kind of momentum with the Devil stuff until Cole got hurt.
If I'm a fan of either football club his daddy owns I'd have zero confidence in the family's leadership and competence. Stephen Jones and Jerry Jones look like masterful wizards compared to TK
If TK shows up in a neckbrace tonight on espn or nfln I will 100% not say anything bad about him for at least a month.
Could you imagine if sports media wrote sob stories about every player who got cut like the wrestling media does. I know the roster is full and we have better players but he’s always dreamed of this so let the 8th string TE hang out around and collect his 300k a year.
Tony Khan is wearing a neck brace to Jaguars draft war room, because wrestling is real Spoiler The Jacksonville Jaguars are headed into the most important draft of the Doug Pederson era. After collapsing down the stretch and missing the playoffs, then losing Calvin Ridley to the rival Tennessee Titans, it’s all hands on deck for Jacksonville to make the correct pick in the NFL Draft. I’m sure this means that everyone, from Pederson to Chief Football Strategy Officer Tony Khan is locked in—hold on I’m getting some news... If you don’t know, Tony Khan is also the owner of All Elite Wrestling, a professional wrestling company based out of, you guessed it, Jacksonville. Yesterday, to end the show, Khan was reinstating wrestler Jack Perry when he was viciously attacked by Perry, Matt and Nick Jackson (the Young Bucks) and Kazuchika Okada. It culminated in Khan taking a piledriver from the Young Bucks to end the show, and all the wrestlers coming out to check on him. Now, as a true worker and boss, Khan isn’t letting this near fatal injury stop him from doing his job for the Jaguars. In a still photo, Khan is discussing the NFL Draft process...while wearing a neck brace. For all you charlatans and fools who say wrestling is fake, explain this. Khan is still doing his job despite being brutally attacked, the epitome of a grinder. This isn’t the first time AEW has interacted with Jaguars brass either. In 2021 at AEW’s Double or Nothing, Chris Jericho was helped out in his Stadium Stampede Match by none other than then-Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer. Prayers up to Tony Khan, we know how much a neck injury like that can stress you during this time.
What did y’all think of the match concept for that Casino Gauntlet match or whatever it was called last night?
Match type was fine if not a bit convoluted to make sure everyone was out of the ring for the finish. Sort of like a ladder match. If this is the push for Ospreay to pull a Gunther with the international title, I think it’s a good move.
AEW’s singles champs after Double or Nothing is going to be crazy. A good opportunity to really elevate the midcard titles and and a good chance to really put over whoever beats the people for those titles. World - Swerve International - Ospreay Continental - Okada TNT - Copeland Women’s World - Toni Storm TBS - Mercedes
I kind of like the concept of it. It’s sort of like a battle royal because of the # of people in it, but it avoids the two things I hate most about battle royals. There isn’t a mess of people in the ring for the vast majority of the match so actual wrestling can happen from beginning to end. Or at least that’s how it was last night. You also don’t have all those boring ass spots of people struggling to throw someone over the ropes. Another nice twist on the format, since it’s first pinfall/submission wins, it’s best to actually be one of the first two in the match. Pays to be the guy putting in work instead of getting a late entry and being able to avoid having to face most of the pool. Now was it a good match? No, it was just okay, but there’s potential there for it to be AEW’s version of the Royal Rumble. They need to iron out the details from a producing/in-ring storytelling standpoint to avoid it just becoming a glorified spotfest scramble match. Because if it just devolves into that every single time then this match format is dead in the water as a draw. And obviously they’ll have to elevate into a spectacle match like the RR is instead of just some match randomly thrown on weekly tv.
It can’t be a royal rumble type thing because it has a match storytelling problem since you know the match can’t end before all the wrestlers come out.
Would get rid of one of those men’s midcard titles, and keep the other two mostly show specific. If they need to keep a WBD named title, put the TNT title on Collision mostly and International/Continental on Dynamite. And I know we’re all in agreement to keep the ROH titles off AEW.
The fact that the match can end so quickly is what means it can’t be like the Royal Rumble. It’s better served as tv product like last night imo. The match can never end early because you need a minimum number of wrestlers to come out for the gimmick. Like you have no belief that Jay White would quickly beat Kommander or whoever the first two fighters were.
It’s been a valuable opportunity for many talents to get reps they weren’t getting in AEW, especially since Dark got axed as part of the Collision deal.
To make a PPV based on it like the RR is. Yeah it’s a problem. It would have to be an elimination match rather than first to win.
Then just brand it as the development brand and get it some traction and don’t do the intermingling between brands.
Probably. My point is that the Royal Rumble is an event. There’s the randomness plus the fact that you have to be the last person standing. That like a Battle Royal lends itself to being a tentpole event. The format of the Casino Gauntlet does not. In the end it’s not actually a Gauntlet if you just quickly win before any other competitors come down.
