happy you posted that. I missed some of those details. I though Reek was just serving Ramsey Bolton. I didn't think it was Ramsey posing as him when he first showed up at Winterfell. feel stupid for missing it, but happy I had it clarified here. also, I'm reading book 3 right now and I really want to talk about some shit but I don't want to go in that thread and get spoiled. it's so hard to discuss these books because everyone reads at their own pace and as at different points of the story. the scene I really want to discuss is: book 3 spoiler, don't scroll if on mobile.. Spoiler the story Meera tells Bran about the tournament at Harrenhall. I know there's a ton of stuff in there and feel like I got most of it, but I'm sure there's stuff I missed as well.
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3] I separated this so no one in that thread reads it and it's a very important chapter. It's important because it's a big part of a certain theory on a certain couple in the series.
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3] yea good idea pulling this out of that thread, and yes that theory was what I was thinking about as I read it. hoping to hear more from Meera about that story.
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3] Is there something specific that you want to talk about? Or something you didn't get?
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3] well I was a little confused as to who was who in the story. the she-wolf is Lyanna, the three wolves were Eddard, Brandon, Benjen - I'm guessing Brandon was the wild wolf, Eddard the shy wolf, and Benjen the pup? Rhaegar is the dragon prince. Storm lord = Beric? Knight of skulls and kisses - ??? the main person I couldn't figure out though was the "maid with laughing purple eyes" that I'm guessing Eddard danced with. the way they kept asking about him hearing this tale from his father made me think she was possibly Jon's mother, but of course there's the other theory on that...not sure if I should know who she is by that description...
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3] Think i got everyone Crannogman - Howland Reed The King - Aerys Targaryen White Swords - Bunch of people [including] A new brother - Jaime Storm Lord - Robert Baratheon Rose Lord - Mace Tyrell Great Lion on the Rock - Tywin Lannister Dragon Prince - Rhaegar His wife - Elia She wolf - Lyanna Wild - Brandon Quiet - Eddard Pup - Benjen Barrowtown men - Dustin* Moose - Hornwood* Bears - Mormont* Mermen - Manderly* Knight of skulls and kisses - Richard Lonmouth maid with purple eyes - Ashara Dane White Sword- Ser Arthur Snake - Oberyn Martell [] lord of griffins - Jon Connington Pitchfork knight - haigh* porcupine knight - blount* knight of two towers - frey* Small of stature knight/weirwood with a laughing red face - Spoiler Possibly Lyanna
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3] * means it's someone from that house. The purple eye girl Ashara dane. One of the possible mothers of Jon Snow
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3] Ok let me try to remember. I think you hear about her twice. Once at the tourney and once in GOT. Cat had a pov early in the book that talks about her. There were rumors that she was the one that with Ned had Jon. She at some point asks Ned about this and he got mad and said bitch don't be asking about Jon. Ned and her met when he was returning Arthur's sword. Ned killed Arthur I think. Or maybe not. Maybe someone else helped kill him? I don't remember. All I know is Arthur Dayne was supposed to be the best. Tower of Joy is also where it happened. That's where Ned was going after Lyanna. Now an important thing to remember here and it's important because of the jon rumor. Ned told cat something to the affect of "the only thing you need to know is that Jon has my blood". Now this could mean that his sister who would have the same blood was the mother.
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3] Oh and she's also dead. I'm not sure where this occurs but it's before the books I think. Sometime after her brother's death iirc so that would put it around robert's rebellion Also Zeb you're the op of this thread. Just do what I did when I was reading the book and use this as your own book 3 thread. Just update the title when you have a new topic to discuss.
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3 "The tournament"] I've thought about it and I have to say Lyanna Ashara Wylla with Wylla's role being that of a distraction from number 1 or 2.
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3] P Sure Ashara jumped out of the castle to kill herself when Ned brought her Arthur Dayne's sword. Ned, Howland Reed and 3 others met Dayne and 2 other of the kingsguard at the Tower of Joy and all we know is that only Ned and Reed survived and Ned said Arthur would have killed him if it weren't for Howland Reed
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3] All this is in Eddard's chapter in GoT (chapter 39) as he is recovering from Jaime's attack Ned killed Arthur Dayne who was guarding the Tower of Joy under the command of Rhaegar. Lyanna was in the tower. Ned was with 6 other members and Dayne had two other members of the Kingsguard, Oswell Whent and Gerold Hightower (the Lord Commander). Only Ned and Howland Reed survived. Ashara killed herself soon after the death of her brother Arthur...according to Catelyn she had violet eyes
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3 "The tournament"] Yeah but the reason for her jumping is unknown? Right? I mean you can guess but no one knows for sure? And yeah that's right. Forgot exactly what happened.
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3 "The tournament"] yea. Could've jumped because of her brothers death or theoretically because her new lover Ned was leaving
Re: Zeb's book 3 post [Bran II Book 3 "The tournament"] Somehow, I missed that Ned had killed Arthur Dayne. Looking forward to going back through the books and reading much slower this time. I feel like I missed a ton of things.
Edited the title because there are times in both book 1 and book 2 where you think Bran might die or might already be dead.
yea good move. I never really believed he was dead, but I was pretty pissed at the possibility. his death there would have made previous chapters such a monumental waste.
Thats what I'm saying. Should just call it 'the thing that that one chick told that one person about that had previously occurred'
I'm going to talk about the trial by combat towards the end of book 3 so don't scroll down if you're not there yet. holy shit that may have been my favorite scene in all the books so far. really didn't see the ending coming though. I should have known the GRRM would never give me what I wanted. he really teased the shit out of me with all the possibilities of Tyrion traveling to Dorne. I hope the Mountain is dead at least. I'm still holding out a faint hope that Tyrion somehow survives this but it's not looking good. I would have loved to see him take the Black (if there's anything left of the Wall) or head down to Dorne a free man. killing that character is such a waste. the Red Viper is another great character that was wasted. hopefully we see more Dornish men take his place is stirring shit up because I like his style. btw, I stopped reading immediately after this POV last night so do me a favor and try not to bring up anything that I haven't read yet.
Brienne chapters might be worse than Catelyn. about a third of the way through and now on ANOTHER Brienne POV that's like 20 pages long. this shit better get interesting. I want to know who the Queenmaker is.
I'm like two thirds way through the fourth book and it's a little frustrating because it seems like he's holding back on the most interesting story lines to save for later on. dany and her dragons, what happened to tyrion and varys, zombie catelyn?
love arya chapters.. a little past page 500 now and am now kinda wondering wtf. also fuck the drowned god, woat god
Keep reading in DwD it'll all make sense that being said I was nervous after that ending in FfC and read her chapters first in DwD
another thing I noticed was that Dareon mentioned "serving Lord Snow" and Arya didn't flinch. did I miss the part when she already knew that Jon was the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch? I didn't think Sam said anything to her about it when they met. I know Snow is a common bastard name, but you'd assume she would figure out which Snow it was or at least be curious about it.
yea but she refers to herself as Arya like five times in that POV. and we're getting her POV so we should know even if she thinks of it. and she even says that it was Arya who killed Dareon.
that was one of my favorite POVs. I loved the way you find out that she killed him. Arya is probably my favorite character in the book to read.
no I am too. athough every page diminishes that hope a little bit. I really thought if we were going to find anything out about him it would have been in that last POV when she was talking to all the different people and learning all the different things.
btw, I downloaded the Stanza app on my iPhone and it has made it so much easier to get reading done because I always have my phone on me and it's a lot easier than breaking out the book or even an e-reader or laptop. It's especially good for taking dumps at work.
I'm still hoping is alive but this is ASOIAF so the best we can expect is to find a spare finger or something of his lying around
