I absolutely fucking loved these games as a kid and really, REALLY want this to not be a giant pile of dogshit. Unfortunately I'm not sure thats very likely.
The game was fun as hell. Im not sure how they make it a good tv show. There's no plot so it could go a lot of ways.
Everybody was playing to have their wish granted by Calypso. No idea if they actually go that route but each character had a different ending when their wish was granted in some terribly awful and unforeseen way.
The Deadpool writers are behind it and one of the lead writers of Kobra Kai is the show runner, and has a good cast. So I’m a little optimistic.
Peacock has some brutal rated R movies. The Witch The Subversion is awesomely grotesque. They have several unrated horror films as well.
releases today and there are some reports that its actually pretty good which has given me a glimmer of hope that a wonderful childhood memory wont be completely ruined forever
100% - that trailer was cringy as hell which is why I'm more than a little surprised it's getting predominately positive reviews
3 episodes in and I have really enjoyed it. Some of the jokes can be cheesy at times, but everything else has been entertaining. The characters are fun (especially Sweet Tooth), and the backstories are being explored really well. That is definitely not the take I thought I would have after watching those trailers. It looked awful to me.
I may be high but the opening sequence of this show just nostalgia’d the Fuck out of me. Just huge goofy grin on my face rn.
interesting that GOB executive produced it, on top of being the voice of sweet tooth. i know he's a big gamer.
Just finished binging season one. That was absolutely awesome, way better than I expected it to be. So many great (some subtle) nods to the games.
I believe it’s still on Netflix. Think it was a syfy channel show. 5 seasons…. It’s cheesy, and over the top silly, but show is a lot of fun. Just silly and violent
I am four episodes in and enjoying the shit of this. The cheese is the point and so good. I am not familiar with the game. Must have been a generation past me, but can some of you tell me about some of the things and whether they match the game? For example, the trucks capturing his car and the entire community within the trucks. Is that from the game?
The plot line isn’t from the game other than cars with guns on them. A lot of the characters and cars are from the game, but there wasn’t an Evelyn in any of them. It doesn’t have any bearing on the show whatsoever so not having played any of them doesn’t matter.
There a probably some articles and videos going over all the Easter eggs in the show. But plot wise from what I read on wiki basically all there is to the game is a tournament held by Calypso where cars destroy each other and the winner gets a wish granted for whatever they want, but it has a sinister twist added by calypso. And that's literally whole plot. Actual gameplay I remember is just cars blowing each other up and nothing else really - but I didn't play outside of renting from blockbuster a time or two.
I remember playing literally every storyline/car from the edition where Paint It Black played in the background while it told you the end of the story for each car/character as you won. Unsurprisingly, it was Twisted Metal Black
My friend and I played Twisted Metal 2 pretty much daily. Took us forever to beat Dark Tooth on the last level.
Also seems like the end of show alludes to next season (if there is one) being basically the actual game plot. Kinda like the mortal kombat movie.
I can’t remember what version we played religiously for a while, I just remember using a moon buggy thing with claws and I would pick up a car and claw it and my friend would use the dump truck and pick up both me and my target. There was a glitch that would multiple the 2 combos and you could do like X1800 damage. Think it was a PS2 version of the game, possibly PS3.
