An eclectic mix to be sure. A classic, a non-fiction, an old-fashioned mystery, a "what-if" catastrophe and one told by a dog. Just read The Hobbit (for the 5th time) in June but if it wins, hell I'll read it again. It is one of my favorite books of all time and probably the closest to my heart since I read it for the first time in the third grade and it is the book that made me fall in love with reading. I won't be voting for it because I've read it so many times (won't be disappointed if it wins though) but if you haven't read it yet, even if it doesn't win you have to read it eventually.
I voted for The Passage (second choice was The Poet) but they all sound good and I'll read whatever wins.
I seem to be on the every other month schedule. So busy that I'm just about to finish Cloud Atlas now. Worked out because I wasn't too interested in Wool. Anyway, agreed on the Passage. I was planning on reading this anyway, and I think I have it in epub format already in case anyone would need it.
Voted for The Passage. Good timing because I think the second book in the series either just came out, or will be shortly
0 of my suggestions. Just kidding. Thanks Arkie. Likes will be sent I have read Art of Racing, The Passage (keep in mind it's a trilogy and the 2nd book only just came out) and The Hobbit so I voted Ghost Soldiers. Of the 3 I've read Art was both my favorite and the quickest reads.
Wasn't The Art of Racing in the Rain yours? I could have sworn it was, bro. Shit, if not, that's my bad. Not intentional at all.
Same here. I'm just winding down Cloud Atlas and I find it underwhelming. I voted for Art of Racing. I love dogs.
I brought it up in the other thread I started, but wasn't one of the 3 I sent. Doesn't matter, that book still kicks total ass, and it's an easy read.
You jerks voting for the Passage realize it's a trilogy right? And I'm pretty sure book 3 comes out in like a year.
I'd imagine you will. I liked it, and will finish for sure, but not as much as some others I read recently. (Fwiw: it's one of my buddy's - who is a smart guy and reads a lot's - all time favs... Sorry about that grammar error there.)
voted for The Art of Racing in the Rain it sounds like it will probably inflame my allergies but damnit I just can't help but love a heartwarming dog story.
Hopefully The Passage holds out and beats Racing. I'm sure Racing is good and I'll read it, but would much rather read The Passage.
I know I will take heat for this but... I plowed through GOT and COK and it was starting to feel like a tedious chore rather than something enjoyable. I needed to break it up. All I really want to do is get ahead of the tv show. Plus, I dont really enjoy re-reading stuff, so the less time between the time I finish ADWD and The Winds of Winter come out, the better. AND, I want to read books like Cloud Atlas, and The Passage anyway, so I might as well do it with you fine chaps.
I recommended the Art of Racing to a friend and she started last night... Finished today with a text "Well, I finished it. And I hate you. I'm sitting here bawling like a baby." Haha... Keep in mind she finished it in under 24 hours, it's an awesome book.
Pretty much the reason I didn't vote for it. It had a real "If you feel feelings, this will make you cry" vibe to it. And I just didn't want to have to explain to the wife or the coworkers why I was crying again.
Thread closed, The Passage it is. http://the-mainboard.com/index.php?...election-the-passage-by-justin-cronin.116669/
