I haven’t watched since ep 1 of this season but I see the storyline they’ve adapted from the comics and I did enjoy reading it. Is this season worth catching up on?
Haven't watched the midseason finale yet but it's getting good reviews on the internet. As a whole, it's been better than at least the last two seasons, but not by much.
Not going to lie, midseason finale was legit. Excited to see how this Whisperers arc goes. Was some pretty good comic book material.
Makes sense. Jesus did kind of "disappear" last season. It was annoying when his character wasn't involved much in the war. Very strange choice by the writers.
If that's as far as you have to go then I would say it's worth it. Out of the 8 episodes this first half of the season I'd say 1 was great, 2 were really good, 4 were good and then 1 was more in line with a typical Walking Dead episode the last couple seasons. So 7/8 being better than most TWD episodes isn't that bad. I saw Forbes had an article about the show going 8/8 on good episodes for a half-season for the first time in years but I'd say 7/8.
Honestly, the midseason finale alone makes it worth catching up. Hopefully it's not just a tease, but it's looking like the Whisperer's War could be some legit TV.
AMC will release its Mid-Season Nine premiere of The Walking Dead one week early on Super Bowl Sunday. "In the spirit of the new group of villains on the show, the Whisperers, AMC today whispered to customers of its AMC Premiere upgrade option that they will be able to watch the upcoming season nine mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead a full week before it appears on the linear television network," the network said in a press release. "The episode will be available to AMC Premiere customers on the afternoon of Super Bowl Sunday, February 3, and will remain on the on-demand platform all week leading into the official premiere on AMC at 9pm ET on February 10."
I actualyl have enjoyed the season for the most part. I really liked the direction it looked like they are heading with in the midseason finale. The Whisperers look like they could the TWD GOAT tier villain. They better not fuck this up after royally fucking up the whole entire Negan and the Saviors shit.
AMC's streaming service. Get to watch their back catalog, also get current stuff commercial free. Or something like that.
Really like what they are doing with The Whisperers Arc. Those comic book villains are perfectly made for TV.
Yep, enjoyed it. Still hoping for Tara to get eaten. Also, not really getting as much back story as I thought we'd get regarding the thing(s) that happened in the interim years that was so awful. Guess we'll see
The first intelligent thing the TV series has done in years is skipping all that shit. The gap between the Saviors and the Whisperers in the comic was awful.
I can only think of one kinda nitpicky, negative thing to say about the show right now and it's that I couldn't care less about the deaf woman and her sister. I mean, aside from the astonishing fact that a deaf woman has survived this long in the apocalypse there is nothing interesting about them. The non-deaf sister uses a fucking slingshot. Get them outta here. The rest of the show, and it still scares me a bit to even put these thoughts out into the world, is genuinely good right now.
Haven't watched tonight's episode yet, but expanding on the idea of those two characters, I would actually prefer in general if the cast was a bit smaller like back in the early early days. But I guess the story is what it is right now, and that means lots of characters
Deaf woman = Connie Her sister = Kelly Can move Connie into "I do care" territory now. Kang doesn't have a ton of experience prior to taking over for Gimple so it's pretty amazing how quickly she's corrected things. I kinda rolled my eyes earlier in the season when people wanted to drown her with praise almost immediately but I'm definitely onboard now. And to add to this, episode 14 is titled "Scars" so that should be where we find out what happened with Alexandria that put Maggie, Michonne, and ultimately all the communities a bit at odds with each other.
Seems like the internet at large and critics disagree https://uproxx.com/tv/the-walking-dead-best-episode-chokepoint/3/
Maybe it's just personally bad for me because of one glaring plot point Spoiler when Daryl is up on the balcony and the group of walkers and Whisperers is coming toward them, he shoots a walker with a bolt to the head to attract the Whisperers so he can kill Beta and them. Why not just fucking shoot Beta instead? Surely Lydia or Henry could point him out? He's the biggest son of a bitch there. Take out the main threat first, and if you're lucky the zombies go for that fresh blood and take out the Whisperers for you.
I know people were a little annoyed earlier when they didn't know right away why there was that distance between the communities with Michonne being a key reason but they delivered on the explanation. Next episode looks like it's gonna be...
I wish this Angela Kang lady had come aboard a few seasons ago. Season has been pretty good, would love to see what she would have done with the Negan/Saviors arc.
I think we're just going to have to fill in the rest of the gaps. We saw the event that triggered Michonne's isolationism which led to weakened bonds with the other communities and complete incapability to trust anyone new.
Some people were speculating that the next episode could be 90 minutes (with commercials) and that is now confirmed. So probably around 65 minutes or so actual runtime.
Glad they did the pike scene. Was wondering if they would have the balls to do that after the shit they got for killing off Glenn just like they did in the comics. It was an extremely pivotal moment in the Whisperer's arc so I don't see how they could have justified NOT doing it though.
Can't believe they piked Henry though. His story with Lydia was pretty big, guess they got what they wanted out of it though. Wish more name characters had been killed. I literally have no idea who most of them are.
Wonder how long they going to drag out the Whisperers arc? The pike scene was from issue 144, the most recent issue is 189. They going to have to slow down the progress or introduce something completely new not in the comics to bridge the gap to the next major comic story arc.
Yeah I was very happy with all 3 of the “impact” characters they killed off. Still have a lot of fat to trim, but it’s a start. They also need to get people moving again out in the open. All this town shit ruins this type of show.
Yeah I was surprised they did Henry, but definitely achieves the emotion they needed out of it (for the characters, not me). Tara and Enid are pretty big characters though. I never liked Tara but was warming up to Enid. Also was looking forward to seeing more from those highway guys. Oh well
