Just remembered Tom Cruise weirdly remade the Mummy like 5 years ago but I don’t think anyone actually saw it.
I thought it was just decent. Blanchett’s incredible performance carried it further than it should’ve gotten.
Very pleased, but shocked, about EEAAO's success today - very rare that a movie like this has major awards recognition. Also feeling very smug that a local movie reviewer who was stanning very hard for Blanchett to win would be crying over his lunch today. He's been whining for months that Everything isn't a very good movie and doesn't deserve all the praise it's getting.
Well, the most egregious win for EEAAO was definitely Jamie Lee Curtis winning for Best Supporting Actress, which has nothing with being an "atypical winner with highly atypical actors." It's more just the concept of essentially a clean sweep in a year where there were so many standout moments across film (Banshees' acting, Tar's lead actress performance and Field's writing, any of the other 4 performances in best supporting actress) that has me scratching my head a bit. To have 3 of the 4 best acting performances, best direction, best writing, and best editing is a pretty bold statement in a pretty decent year otherwise.
Wish they’d release the vote counts so we could see who finished second in best movie. How close was the best actress race. Who got second in best actor. It’d be fun
I just think that’s a weird way to look at the Oscars. EEAAO cleaning up doesn’t lessen any of the great performances or technical feats from other films. I’m not going to look back any less fondly on two of my favorites because they got shutout (Banshees, Fabelmans). I’m not sure “a good-sized chunk of the Academy loved EEAAO both individually and for the sum of its parts” is a particularly bold or controversial statement to send.
I thought I watched a “In memoriam” scene from Goodfellas that had him and Ray Liotta in it. The “now I’ve got to turn my back on you” scene
i took my dog outside and must've missed the in memoriam montage but i read they didn't include charlbi dean not a great look to miss the star of one of your best picture noms

It's stellar in the field of movies that will make you fall asleep. I feel like I've put it on 30 times and I'm out within the first 15-20 minutes. And that's considering it's an action film.
