I'm totally fine with not giving up any of those players at the deadline as long as we spend some money to improve the team in free agency. We really need 1 veteran starter, multiple proven bullpen arms and preferably a veteran bat as well.
Dumping all of the payroll freeing up into pitching would put us around the median of what MLB teams spend on pitching. We’re currently 28th according to Sportrac. Have no idea what’s realistically available though
This has been me all along. Use the expiring money and get the best arm possible. Then add 2 bullpens arms and a catcher would be my preference.
We all know we wouldn’t have made it that far especially with our pitching and how poorly we were playing by the end of the season but a little sickening to see a team we were jockeying with for the final playoff spot make the World Series
Went back and looked at this and we were actually dead last, I was looking at 2024 for some reason. Median part is still accurate
Wow. Is he sick? I remember meeting him when I used to play knothole at Grooms Rd fields in Blue Ash. Super nice guy. He signed my glove lol
Thoughts? Glasnow - I feel like we will overpay, he's older than I'd like for a SP (30yo), and injury prone. Bieber - younger (28yo), good arm, likely cheaper than Glasnow and less injuries. Although I believe he was out for a good amount this past season.
I will blindly throw my support behind them depending on what we give up and start pumping up the World Series rhetoric
I am good with either depending on what we have to send out (obviously). I keep hoping for us to hook up with the Mariners for Logan Gilbert. Out of our prospects I am good to trade Arroyo and Collier to get a top end arm.
Honestly I want Dylan Cease. He has 2 years of Arbitration remaining. Then ask for Luis Robert and go big. Trade Arroyo, Collier, India and Williamson.
I'm tired of working and I'm sure I missed someone but it looks like we still have around $25m in payroll to spend from last year's salaries. God forbid we spend more than last year too.
I mean, we went to the games in droves for a change. Last year's payroll was based on 22. We'd better spend more.
I love seeing your posts in this thread, even this was minor let down. The one that has Cease was traded to us I will shower you with likes.
Likely our pick at #2 in the draft unless he goes at #1. 2. Nick Kurtz, 1B, Wake Forest Callis: “The interesting thing, as a whole, is I don’t think there is a clear-cut No. 1 pick in this Draft. If Wetherholt doesn’t stick at short, a lot of the top college guys don’t play premium positions, so it’ll be interesting to see how they shake out. There has only been one college first baseman who went No. 1 overall, and that was Spencer Torkelson. Kurtz could join him. I think he’s got the best combination of hitting ability and power in this Draft. He hit 24 homers as a sophomore while walking more than he struck out. He plays a quality first base. He moves well enough [that] I think you could try him on an outfield corner. Wake was obviously loaded last year. They finished third. They lost a tough extra-inning game in the semifinals to LSU, which went on to win the national championship, and they had two first-rounders last year. They could have five this year. No team has ever had more than three.”
Yea I read that, and it seems like an absurd ask. I also thought we overpaid for Latos and Trammell sucked.
This franchise really has a penchant for overpaying sub .250 hitters. Something I’ll never understand https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...elario-reds-reach-3-year-45m-deal-sources-say
No idea what to think about this signing. Also sounds like we were runners up for Eduardo Rodriguez with him choosing diamondbacks over us.
