My destkop has big speakers, big tower, 23"+27", and takes up plenty of desk space. I want something small and unobtrusive for bedroom/den/etc. I have an extra $100 mouse, 22" monitor, and a decently nice keyboard laying around, so the chromebox will be more of a multi-use computer. I have no intentions of getting windows 8 (ive demoed it at a Dell Usability lab) so id like something somewhat current to bridge the gap between my power desktop and my tablet because my laptops are so freaking under-powered. I really do like the macbooks but Im going to try the alternatives before I commit 1k to something ive never really used before.
So that google search wont be on ics and the one x correct? Thats gonna be a jellybean thing? Will I ever get that or will that just be for nexus branded phones?
You will likely get it about 4-5 months from now. If you want help from this thread you can probably get it yourself in a couple weeks though.
Jelly bean is slick as hell. Everything moves better and crisper. The voice commands thing is pretty nice too. Expandable notifications I'm liking more than I anticipated.

Xoom receiving JB presents an interesting situation, as nexus 7 is designed to run natively in portrait mode, and the xoom in landscape. Will i have a 7 app drawer running the whole length of the screen? also where are the speakers located on the Nexs 7? maybe one located at the bottom? if they do indeed launch the Nexus 10, will it be the same setup? interesting to see how they handle that divide.

SGSII is just now getting ICS. someone should be able to look at the time it took for the phone to receive that and that should be pretty similar timeline for SGSIII
nah shouldn't take that long, the jump from Gingerbread/Honeycomb to ICS was a lot bigger jump than ICS to Jelly Bean. So the reports about 4th qtr release are just speculation at this point because Samsung hasn't said anything concrete to my knowledge. Besides there will be JB Roms soon enough the HTC One X already has a working port (although it's still buggy)
Man this def takes time to get used to finally getting the chance to sit down and play with it. I will say that this keyboard is awesome. Very much enjoy jus sliding my finger around quickly
Same with me, I hate Apple with a passion and would never own anything by them. But their base is full of pretentious douche bags that will buy their shit regardless of anything they do. They have no concern whatsoever of alienating their customers because their customers will buy from them no matter what. Hell, when you make the choice to buy Apple, you have already admitted that you don't mind buying something that is proprietary, restrictive and extremely overpriced. Why should you care if the owners are asswipes? You're already all-in.
I was on CM9 but was having some issues, reflashed androwook and its very very smooth. I like it better. Can't remember if it has any aokp or cm9
Hey man, I'm unlocked and I'm trying to flash into recovery from goo manager. I install open-script recovery, and then manually try to boot into recovery. It starts loading, then I get the Red Warning sign over the android guy and I have to reboot again. Not bricked, but I can't get into recovery.. Any tips?

It's hard to describe how it works and how helpful it is. Once you use it, you know. The way voice search returns information makes Siri look silly. Also the way in which it reads results back sounds so natural. As Lyrtch said, expandable notification are so useful. Project Butter is fantastic. All the screen transitions are so smooth, more uniform. I don't know if it's the subtle UI enhancements or Project Butter but the OS as a whole seems much more cohesive and fluid. The new keyboard's predictive text isn't as good as SwiftKey, but it's much more responsive. Now my default keyboard.
Thanks guys, I'm an idiot and realized I was on 9.4.2.28. Used debugfs root tool and I'm good, took some trouble shooting (realized an old adb driver was running, killed it, and fixed that issue) but now I'm downloading the latest nightly and gapps.

I had the reboot error with that rom. Not everyone has it, but if you do it sucks. Also had trouble getting my phone to go into deep sleep with that one. Everything is working perfectly with jdkoreclipse's rom that I linked earlier though. I would highly recommend it. If you do decide to flash a JB rom, I would strongly suggest that: Know how to flash a factory image. Check to make sure ADB/fastboot is working so you can flash. Have the image ready on your computer. Make an nandroid backup and put it on your computer. Back up everything on your SD card. If you have to flash a factory image, you will lose everything. Use this superwipe script before flashing the rom (scroll down a ways in OP of this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20473980).
Cosign this. It took me forever to find the image when I was relocking my old phone to send back. You planning on sticking with JB or are you going to nandroid and wait until more bugs are worked out?
Honestly, after using Google now, the new voice search, project butter, expandable notifications, and the new keyboard I can't go back. It's really that good. I've got everything working on this build (reboots, deep sleep). It took a little more work than normal but it's good enough to be my daily driver for now. But as soon as a proper release for the Verizon version comes out I'll flash that.
Flashed and everything worked first time. Probably have a huge crash coming for some reason, but so far it's pretty awesome. Can't wait for the new roms to come out because ive gotten used to the customization from CM9 just for little things like being able to reboot to recovery from the power button and make more columns and rows on the homescreens. Overall it's pretty slick.
