guy who lived there said he smelled natural gas. I don't live far from there and definitely heard the firetrucks this morning, but no one said anything, nor did I notice any smoke or smell when I took my cat to the vet (about 1,000 feet across E/W Highway from the fire) about an hour after it happened.
Entire region needs to spend some money on gas line infrastructure and Mont County especially needs to hire some more fire code inspectors.
Serious question: who does one need to bribe at DCRA to get a business license pushed through? Every email to them goes something like "you need to contact OTR" -- and then you contact OTR and they go "you need to contact DCRA" ... finally ending up with "yeah, our system is fucked up, LOL, try starting all over again with your application"
Going through the same thing trying to get a simple ass permit to put a fence in the front yard of our rowhome
You need a permit. And to pay a permit fee. And sometimes you need a public hearing that allows input from your neighbors, which means you need to post a "notice of public hearing" sign on your property. When we had our roof done, I'm pretty sure the permit money paid to our roofer to "expedite" things was just money they used to bribe someone at DCRA.
Met Brian Schwalb last night while walking my dog. Stopped and talked with us for 10 minutes. Seemed like a good guy. This has been Talking DC Politics.
This weather is awful plus my AC doesn’t seem to be working It’s fucking November and we have summer weather
I like the warm weather. Saturday was beautiful, seemed like the whole city was in Rock Creek Park. Yesterday was gross though. Mosquitos are still alive
nice. didn’t realize there was a DC thread. I’ll read through the restaurant recs as that’s pretty much what I was looking for
I was just reading the last page on bwi2’s recommendation and saw your post. My wife and I chose DC for our baby moon bc it was somewhere she hasn’t been and I haven’t been since a 5th grade field trip. Anything y’all really enjoyed on yours?
It was a great trip. Hay Adams was definitely the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed at and the bar in the basement was really cool. Wouldn’t recommend the museums if your wife is over 20 weeks pregnant. Just too many crowds and too much walking. Kind of obvious I suppose but you live and learn. Maybe just plan on it being an afternoon and not make a day out of it. Walking around the mall and seeing the Lincoln/Washington monuments was really cool. Le dip and Anju were the two restaurants we settled on for dinner and they were fantastic. The spa at the Washington hotel was really nice. DC is just a really cool town and we had a nice time.
cool. thanks. will def check out those restaurants and will try to not piss my wife off too much dragging her around museums lol
https://www.popville.com/2022/12/bloomingdale-family-assaulted/ I would probably fight these motherfuckers
Recs for stay, food, for spring break with kids in early April will go to see cherry blossoms, Smithsonian, Holocaust museum, Mt Vernon, Lincoln memorial, Washington monument, Mt Vernon, Capital, White House, MLK Jr memorial, Jefferson memorial, WW 2 memorial, Vietnam War wall memorial recreating school trips cancelled for COVID plus want to do non touristy activities (ride bikes somewhere) go to non touristy places to eat, both causal, and maybe one or two nice places. For example, we took the kids to Sun Dial and Fox Bros BBQ in ATL. Any cool outdoor dining? Roof top? Hole in the wall sandwich shop? Maryland blue crabs? Ethnic? Cocktail bar? appreciate any recommendations
For outdoor dining and weather should be nice at that time I recommend salt line. Food is amazing and it’s right on the river. It’s my number 1 outdoor spot in dc. It’s absolutely lovely
Mt Vernon is fine for a half day trip but you probably don’t need to go twice. You could pair it with lunch or dinner and walking around Old Town Alexandria too
our 911 system is a complete mess. What happened yesterday isn't an isolated incident and we deserve better.
I live a couple blocks from the library where someone was murdered last night. Very normal and very cool.
Looking for a dinner recommendation: Pricey/fancy is fine, but nothing too pretentious Solid cocktails Able to have a private conversation (don't want the tables right on top of each other). Tail Up Goat and Le Diplomat look to have a lot of the bench style seating. She's not a huge sushi fan, but most other cuisines would be fine Anything stand out?
My neighbor has a good list. Dabney used to be my favorite restaurant in town. They've recently changed their menu to be prix fixe only and I haven't been since then. It will definitely be on the pricier side but it nails all your requirements.
If I remember correctly the seating was a bit more spread out at Dabney too. Primrose definitely has more spaced out seating as well.
