Just started this show a couple wks ago. I am only thru S2E2 so I need to get caught up before I read the whole thread. I liked whoever mentioned to only watch around 2 eps at a time. I cant get over how they have so many different sets to all take place in the 1930-1950s. Very well done. I loved Lithgow as Churchill. I have been avoiding going to Wikipedia to learn about everything during the eps because I am worried about spoilers on some things that I dont know about. I saw on page 1 that a few of you were doing that. Didnt spoil it for you?
I’ve watched the first 3 eps. Ep 3 is really really good. I don’t think I like the casting at all. The queen is great. But Dominic West is terrible casting for Charles. Too handsome and charismatic for that role. Diana is so tall and towers over everyone. Although she does nail the mannerisms ect. Don’t like The High Sparrow for Phillip either. He’s too soft. Need some of that biting wit.
The actress who played Professor Umbridge was a fantastic choice given the Queen turns into an ornery old hag this season.
McNulty is a little too good for this role. The guy who placed Phillip in seasons 3 and 4 would have been a better middle aged Charles imo
I still loved everything about this show. The costume, writing, sound, music, acting all of it. Just didn’t really get into it this season like I have in the past. I know it’s not 100% historically accurate, but i just didn’t care for Diana storyline show as a whole, 9.5/10 this season 7.5/10
finally got all caught up tonight. Shocked that the thread in here is only four pages. I never thought I would give a shit about British royalty, but I have spent a ton of time on Wikipedia the last six wks. Do we have any idea of on how many more seasons there will be? also, very naive on so much about their monarchy. Do they just freely give up countries, territories, etc., if the people start an uprise? I would love to see a time lapse of everything they’ve lost and read about why. Also, why is Canada still part of this?
next season is the last Canada is part of the commonwealth. The monarch has no power, it’s purely symbolic of being a former colony basically. India is part of the commonwealth, but is a republic. I think Australia is trying to become a republic within the commonwealth as well. Don’t really understand the difference other than removing the monarch as the official “head of state” even though they don’t have any power. They would still be part of the commonwealth technically, the US could decide to join the commonwealth since they were under the British empire as well
I guess I'm assuming Canada is getting taxed to fund the monarchy is all and it is strange that in 2022 anyone besides Great Britain would do that.
Yes, through the first two episodes, and they are very good. Very much in keeping with the rest of it ...
Yeah, I thought all four episodes were good at portraying a really difficult subject. I’ve read Sepinwall’s gripes about them but :shrugs:
finished part 1 of last season debicki nailing it, although i wish they did a better job hiding her height
Watching the last season with the wife. Holy hell did it get dusty in our room at the end of the Ritz episode. Such great acting in this show.
It was wrapped up well, but yeah they did rush through the last couple of decades. Could easily have made another season.
