Fuck, I was just telling my wife (who hasn’t seen season 1 and is only passively watching) how much less intense this season is so far
Fuck I thought it was 12 eps, I stopped last night after the friends and family episode. Wtf that was the season finale? Lame. Needed more!
Ep 3 was cool for me. Kind of a gut punch to see the mini montage of all the restaurants and bars that closed in the past few years including some nostalgic places for me. But also seeing Syd hit up so many cool Chicago places and their irl chefs getting some screen time was dope.
Already binged the whole season. Really well done. Maybe liked it better than the first. Some nice cathartic moments for some characters and a kick in the teeth for some others.
episode 6 was clearly great but I also loved Richie's episode #7, and the finale. I think that is some of the best storytelling that can be done especially about restaurants. I truly think that is one of the best seasons of TV ever made. top 25.
Through ep 7. This season is incredible I thought this was hyperbole when I read it last night and was just a couple eps in. Just finished the season and I fully agree. It would have been an achievement to match or even surpass the first season. They somehow blew it out of the water. Everything was so good. Not a single wasted scene.
it probably is in the moment hyperbole but I did think it was a perfectly executed season. Spoiler I was thinking this morning that in an alternative timeline where this was a series finale instead of a season finale, and if they wanted to end on a happy note, Carmy sees his investment in everyone's growth and realizes he can take a step back and be with Claire and finally enjoy his life. but what they did here made the most sense and was just simultaneously great and soul crushing.
Whole-heartedly agree that it was an all-timer season with an all-timer episode. I loved all the episodes focusing on a single character (it felt very Atlanta in that regard). I think I enjoyed Richie’s the most. Him blasting Taylor Swift made me howl.
That episode was great. Where he was at early in the episode was so dark you thought who knows what might happen here and where he finished was great.
Yeah, little details like that are so cool. When he was telling that story I had a feeling that's who he meant. But the show never actually says. Then a few episodes later you see that photo and it confirms it. Really cool.
Liked the Cubs analogy made... I still hear that excuse being made instead of blaming the comedy of errors that ensued in that game
I need to sit with this a bit but just finished and wow. Currently in the middle of a disaster of a restaurant opening so this shit was hard to watch at times. As great as ep 6 was and I really loved the extended family, even though not sure how they all related, ep 7 with Richie was the star. His arc has been so incredible and been interesting how everyone is growing and Carmen takes a step back in the end.
It's funny because as I began to realize this was going to be a Richie centric episode I was thinking "I don't know if I can handle and episode of just Richie" and then it ended up probably being my favorite episode of the season.
Since I watched Into the Spider-Verse recently all I could hear was Peter Porker and that somehow made it even better.
I don’t think so because when she was telling the story about the girl fucking with her she was spelling out Berzatto as her last name.
Something about the Carm/Claire relationship was a bit off to me but really everything else I thought was great. Ritchie obviously became the star, the actor killed it. Uncle was great too
If you told me the actress that plays Claire is related to Jenna Fisher Id believe you. it’s like if Pam grew up in Chicago.
And for like 2 minutes. Getting this level of talent to do bit roles is crazy to me. I assume Joel McHale didn't actually film that there.
Wife and I have been knocking a couple of episodes out a night. This is in my top 10 shows. So very well done.
I’ve rarely been so angry at a writer when Spoiler it showed Marcus’s phone screen at the end they didn’t have to do that other than that, that was a truly great season of television. I wasn’t as high on s1 as everyone else but this season far exceeded my expectations.
